Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Cursed

N/A: He will eventually gain an arsenal of cursed techniques, but it's more like he treats each as a spell in its own. Also other inspired techniques will appear.

Rain fell gently over Izumo, not as punishment, not as omen—just rain.

He woke to the sound of it tapping against paper and wood, each drop catching on the ribs of a wide blue paper umbrella secured loosely above his head. For a long moment, he did not move. The sky was a wash of blue-gray clouds framed by blossoms—pale petals clinging stubbornly to branches.

His yellow eyes met a pair of purple eyes. Beautiful was the first thought that came to mind. However, that gaze was recognised as pity. She had placed the umbrella not expecting him to awake so fast.

"Izumo" He thought to himself. He only knew that this world was Izumo and his name.

"Thank you... My name is Yanagi Shisei. And you?" He croaked from his weakened state.

"Mei, Raiden Bosenmori Mei" The young maiden replied. Her crimson umbrella contrasted starkly with the pale background of the district.

Regardless of how he ended up here, he knew he had his own principles. Repay kindness with kindness and for malice... Curse them. The word curse, rolled of this tongue. It just seemed right.

"If you are in need of help, there is a centre for people in need if you just reach the hospital. It's right across there." The girl replied as she walked away after bowing.

Shisei simply watched the back of her figure as her black hair swayed left and right in a hypnotic fashion. He would remember her and repay her favor. For the first act of kindness he had experienced he would remember for all eternity.

He pushed himself upright.

The parasol tilted, water spilling off its edge in a silver arc. His reflection shimmered faintly in a shallow puddle at his feet—ashen white hair falling into sharp, unkind angles, skin pale as if the sun had never claimed him.

The moment he met his own gaze, something twisted inside him.

Not memory.

Instinct.

A single acknowledgement of his self, "Projection Sorcery." And he himself could feel this was not the end.

His steps slowly firmed as he walked steadily towards the help centre of the needy. He would settle himself first before repaying her kindness.

The neon lights of the big city awoke him in the middle of the night. He couldn't sleep well. Not with the other people snoring near him. His mind continue to think of how he would make a living in this world.

Luckily they had thought of this as well.

In the main lobby was a board full of entry level jobs for those who needed help getting back on their feet.

It was perfect for him. Especially with the rules they had set, the help centre only hosted an individual for a maximum of two weeks.

This was to dissuade people from taking advantage.

One job particularly caught his eye.

[Food Delivery]

[Pay: 200,000 Suin/Month]

[Lodging included]

While the pay had been reduced, lodging on the other hand had been provided.

Shisei didn't need to think any longer as he thought of his current sorcery.

The ability to divide a second into 24 frames and move accordingly, upon touching another individual, they must also abide by the 24 frames rule otherwise they will be frozen into a frame. An ability meant for speed and CC, but had risks as he too had to abide by the 24 frames rule.

In the middle of the night he gazed at the neon lights of the city before tearing the post down from the wall and signing his name on it.

[Name: Shisei Yanagi]

A bright light graced his eyes as he sat up slowly. His mind was still in the process of gathering his thoughts and situation.

Regardless, he had now secured work and lodging. Upon further inspection, many of the jobs provided lodging with pay reduced.

A way of making sure that workers were always readily available.

He made his way towards the address on the back as the rain started pouring again.

Many girls quickly hurried off to the sidewalks to take shelter as they reapplied their make-up. A culture here it seems.

The rain dripped off his clothing as he noticed that it seemed quite useful and durable.

He had been wearing the same kimono and hakama. Yet it's white color had never gotten dirty nor had it gotten wet. His black obi seemed to contain a single tassel and a lucky charm fox.

His thoughts were soon drowned out as he arrived at a humble looking noodle shop.

"Hello, I'm the one from the centre who decided to take the job?" He opened the door as he bowed in reflex.

A hearty greeting came as an old grandmother walked out from the counter as she took his application before ripping it into shreds.

"Oh deary, no need for these applications. Follow me, I'll lead you to your room. Work starts tomorrow. When you want to leave just go for it." Shisei was dumbfounded at the old lady's behavior.

"Ok?" He replied unsure.

Within half an hour the grandmother had shown him his room and given him a rundown of everything he needed to know about the food and delivery behavior.

"Welp that's all of it dear, unless I've forgotten anything? Hmm. Nope~! By the way just call me Gran, that's what all the kids call me."

Shisei twitched as he imagined that scene.

"Here, you must be hungry, have a meal. It's on me for today. A welcome meal." She placed a bowl of warm noodles in front of him as she smiled and sauntered off into the kitchen again.

"Hey Gran! Same as usual!" A voice shouted as a figure accompanied the jingle of the bells.

Gran walked out as she looked stunned, "I knew I forgot something. You have the same hair color~" She exclaimed.

"Yanagi, this is one of our regulars, Hakuhatsu Ki." Shisei bowed in greeting as he noted that Ki had the same hair color. His was more ashen white while Ki's was more snow white. Blue met yellow as both acknowledged the other.

Gran seemed to think for a while longer as she seemed stumped, "Now this is an issue, who do I call white hair now?"
