Chapter 17 - Ran Away

Lynn seemed very dissatisfied with his current life. Besides the people in the territory facing starvation, even the little black dog that used to bask in the sun at the entrance of the courtyard every day was starving.

Today, Lynn still came to it with a piece of bread. The little black dog groaned twice and wagged its tail desperately.

Eating black bread with such relish, Lynn worried that the dog would soon starve to death. There were plenty of fish in the sea, more than the people in his town could catch.

Unfortunately, there were many fishermen but very few fishing boats. The people here don't farm, nor do they have large forests to hunt in. Of course, there don't seem to be any artisans who raise silkworms and weave cloth either, although linen clothing sells very well in town.

Lynn had seen it twice before. The material was rough, but quite durable. The women would use wooden sticks to beat and flatten the linen on the beds, pounding the cloth as if rolling dough, making it very flat and light.

Lynn wore it once, and without silk underwear, the threads would prick and make it very uncomfortable. It's hard to believe that wool, which I thought was more expensive, is actually the most common fabric. Wool can be woven or crocheted into clothing, or made into felt hats.

However, it's very warm and heavy, and it's easy to sweat when wearing it all day during the hot days of the long summer.

Therefore, it's common to see a group of bare-chested men on the streets of Fishermen's Port during the day, but everyone puts on wool sweaters at night.

The lack of resources in his territory is a big problem, and Lynn plans to find an opportunity to change the current situation of the territory.

However, the most important thing right now is food.Remembering he had serious business to attend to, Lynn clapped his hands, stood up, and tossed the last piece of bread all at once to the little black dog, who was staring with wide eyes, drooling with longing.

Having resolved to snatch something from the Ironborn's jaws, Lynn quickly thought of a feasible plan.

First, he wrote a letter and had a raven deliver it to Roddart of the Three Sisters.

Watching the raven fly away from the window, Lynn clenched his fist.

However, before Lynn could fully launch his ambush, a piece of bad news instantly struck a blow to his confidence. The head guard, Hudd, arrived at the lord's manor looking anxious.

"My lord, your housekeeper didn't come to work today."

Only a few days on the job and already skipping work.

Lynn was a little surprised. Could it be that she was ashamed and didn't want the craftsmen to bury those nails when they were repairing the pier, and she was planning to skip work to protest?

However, looking at the gloomy expression on Hudd's face, Lynn quickly dismissed his idea.

He said to Hudd, "Tell me, what happened?"Hood bowed first, "It's my fault. The guards I sent to follow Miss Dany were unable to bring her back. Miss Dany secretly rode a horse from the stables and left the fishing village harbor this morning!"

Lynn frowned, saying with some disbelief, "You mean she ran away?"

"As it stands, that's the situation," Hood said cautiously.

Then he spat lightly, "Sir, you say we trusted her so much, and she actually did such a treacherous thing. Should I personally take people to chase after her and catch her to make her understand the consequences of betrayal?""Have a few guards arranged to ride after her," Lynn said, thinking for a moment with his hands behind his back. "She must have gone in the direction of Riverrun. Have your men follow her discreetly into the city."

Hood quickly replied, "I'll have someone arrest that girl right away. She won't make it to Riverrun."

Lynn was stunned to hear this. He watched Hood turn around and stride towards the door, and quickly waved him back, calling out, "Come back here! I told you to send people to protect my housekeeper in secret, not to arrest her!"

"Huh?"Hood stood dumbfounded at the door, a little bewildered, not understanding what his lord was up to.

Lynn didn't have time to explain to him, "Do as I say, and if Miss Danny encounters any danger, make sure your men escort her back. By the way, how many people did she leave with?"

Hood nodded in agreement while replying hastily, "One, one person and one horse, without taking anything. She seemed to be in a hurry."

Lynn nodded, that was it. How could such a smart little girl put herself in danger outside just to steal a horse or protest her work assignment?Whatever earth-shattering news made her leave in such a hurry, combined with her identity, Lynn guessed something must have happened in Riverrun.

"Hood, go and inform your guards first. After that, go to Dani's residence and see if her former maid is there. Bring her here."

Hood bowed in agreement and hurried away.

His newly recruited housekeeper had abandoned her post and run off, leaving Lynn with no choice but to personally take charge of the dock renovation. He stood up and said to the guards at the door, "Go to the Swift Cavalry Regiment and tell Commander Harry Kane to bring his men to the Lord's Manor to see me."

The Artisan Workshop housed a group of artisans recently recruited by the Lord's Manor. The courtyard was particularly quiet at the moment, with archers from the Swift Cavalry Regiment standing silently around the yard.

This once-abandoned manor, once deserted, silent, and gloomy, was now solemn all around, with only huge stones and silent crowds silently recounting the circumstances of its former owner.

He watched as the artisans arrived one after another, crowding the garden in the courtyard.Lynn stood on a flower bed beside a dried-up pool.

Looking down at the artisans below, some avoiding his gaze, and up at the fishermen gazing up at him with curiosity.

He paused, then said, "Today, I announce your first task - to renovate the docks of Fisher Village Harbor."

Lynn's voice wasn't loud,

But in the quiet courtyard, everyone heard him clearly.

No one seemed particularly excited about receiving their first official job; everyone continued to stare blankly at the stage.

Having taken the lord's reward, it was only right to work for him, it was the natural order of things.Only when the Dragoon soldiers appeared, carrying heavy boxes one by one, did everyone involuntarily turn their gaze towards them.

  Lynn had the boxes opened.

Revealing what was inside, long iron nails piled high.

Lynn glanced at the confused crowd below, and said in a drawn-out tone, "This time, the dock renovation work may be slightly different from the past..."
