Chapter 20 - Ambush

Five or six longships sailed south along the east coast, heading towards the fishing village harbor. Judging by the flags flying from the lead ships, they were undoubtedly Iron Islands merchant vessels.

Damn it, how did they get here so fast?

Lynn cursed inwardly.

He recalled the letter delivered by the servant.

He narrowed his eyes, carefully observing the distant fleet. Sure enough, he saw a large ship flying a flag different from that of the Iron Islands following at the rear of the fleet.A soldier from the patrol, jogging over from his defensive position, saluted and reported: "Sir, Harry Kane has led the men ahead to ambush the fishing boats at the docks. The workers carrying fresh water are transporting water to the docks."

This was part of the plan. Lynn dismissed the patrol soldier.

A bad feeling welled up in his heart. He pointed to the shadows of ships on the distant sea and said to Hood, the head of the guards, "Take a close look. After you can distinguish the Ironborn merchant ship, can you identify the flag of the other sailing ship?"""My lord, I noticed it long ago," Hudd said quickly. "That's the sigil of House Flint of Widow's Watch. Their arms are white waves scattered on a blue field, with a pair of blue eyes on a yellow chief."

Why would members of House Flint be mixed in with the ironborn?

This family is also a vassal of the Kingdom of the North, rarely appearing in Game of Thrones. The only time was when Robin Flint, the son of Lady Lysane Flint of Widow's Watch, died at the Red Wedding."Lynn observed carefully for a moment and noticed that the Fettling family's ship was not completely close to the Ironborn merchant ships, but deliberately kept a distance.

It didn't seem like an escort, but more like surveillance or pursuit.

  Soon, Lynn's guess was confirmed.

Five merchant ships from the Iron Islands slowly approached the coast and sailed into the fishing village harbor dock.

But the Fettling family's ships still circled on the sea, and it seemed they had no intention of entering the port.

The fishing boats that were blocking the docking points at the port dock in advance were slowly leaving as planned.According to the plan, they would take the opportunity to bypass the merchant ships and outflank them from the rear.

Lynn couldn't help but hold his breath.

Everything was proceeding according to plan.

Gradually, the first merchant ship began to drop anchor and mooring lines, steadily docking at the pier.

However, at this point, things took a turn.

Lynn saw that as soon as the Ironborn merchant ship docked, the sailors on board swarmed out along the gangplank, fleeing as if their lives depended on it.The Ironborn sailors were not as cautious as one might expect, choosing to remain on board, waiting for the dockworkers to bring fresh water onto the ship.

Before long, the Ironborn sailors from the first ship had almost completely filled the front of the dock.

What was going on?

Lynn stared, watching the group of Ironborn sailors disembarking in a panic, as if their ship harbored a demon, and they were desperate to avoid it.

The strangeness didn't end there; even more surprising to him, the four ships behind them displayed the same panicked behavior.

Unable to dock in time, the sailors on board even abandoned their small boats in unison, rowing across the sea to prepare to go ashore.Watching, the Ironborn sailors in front began to walk from the crowded pier towards the shore, making way for the sailors behind them who were preparing to disembark.

And ahead of them were the obstacles and traps set up by the fishermen and dockworkers.

Events were unfolding unexpectedly, and Lynn felt his palms getting sweaty, but the arrow was already on the string and had to be released.

If all those people were allowed to land, the plan would spiral out of control.

Even if the traps failed, a voice roared from the bottom of his heart.

Hood anxiously asked from the side, "My lord, what should we do? Are we going to let them onto the pier?"Lynn wiped his face, forced himself to calm down, and shook his head, shouting, "Absolutely not, sound the horn, launch the attack early!"

Hood's hand, gripping the hilt of his sword at his waist, was also a little slippery. He secretly wiped the sweat on his clothes, and upon hearing Lynn's instructions, he shouted loudly, "Bugler, tell the men at the docks to attack!"

"Damn it, blow the horn!"

At the docks,

Dogdan, a soldier disguised as a fisherman, repeated the same words over and over: "Relax, take a deep breath."

However, after doing it countless times, he still couldn't stop his heart from racing. He was indeed a system-driven unit-spawning machine, but in his world, he was just an ordinary member of the Cataphracts, loyal to his lord.

Every human being feels fear in the face of war.

The enemy's footsteps grew closer and closer. As almost everyone from the first Ironborn merchant ship disembarked, the landing craft from the second ship prepared to come ashore.

The number of enemies was approaching the number of Cataphracts ambushing on the shore. At this moment, there were about eighty or ninety people on each side at the dock.

As the two sides gradually approached, almost simultaneously, they both sensed the killing intent in each other's eyes.Dog Egg felt his legs tremble.

  Woo—!

A long, mournful trombone sound rang out.

The signal to attack came from the Fisher Village Port Fortress behind them.

Dog Egg's spirits lifted, his legs immediately stopped trembling, and his whole body was instantly filled with endless courage.

Dog Egg glared, drew a long knife from the fishing net behind him, and roared at the crowd of elite cavalry disguised as fishermen behind him.

  "Attack!"

  "Kill!"

"Long live the Elite Cavalry!"The Ironborn are a warlike seafaring people who once possessed unparalleled naval dominance and a dark tradition of raiding the eastern and southern interiors, a reputation that persists to this day.

But no matter how fierce, they inevitably panic when faced with a sudden, close-quarters attack.

The moment the Swift Riders shed their disguise and bared their fangs,

the first round of bloody slaughter began.

The long wooden pier floor, instantly trampled by hundreds of people, seemed to tremble beneath everyone's feet. The Ironborn sailors closest to the shore, habitually carrying their weapons, didn't even have time to draw their sailor's knives before the Vanguard Cavalry's spears and greatswords were hacking into their terrified faces.

The Vanguard Cavalry infantry, gripping their spears, roared,

"Thrust!"

The Ironborn sailors crowded at the front instantly fell in droves.

Immediately after, the infantry behind the Vanguard Cavalry spearmen, wielding greatswords and broadswords, unhesitatingly trampled over the fallen Ironborn corpses, charging in a furious assault towards the Ironborn in the rear who had barely managed to draw their weapons.

"Kill!"The ironborn on the pier were under attack, with sailors preparing to land behind them, leaving them with no way to retreat.

Those caught in the middle were forced to jump into the sea.

However, the ironborn in the water became the perfect targets for the archers of the elite cavalry regiment in the rear, who couldn't immediately reach the battlefield.

The ironborn further back finally realized that their people were under attack.

Some sailors preparing to row small boats towards the shore hurriedly turned back to the merchant ships.

The ironborn in the water also began to abandon climbing the ropes and ladders, heading towards the ship's ballistae.Their ship was equipped with long-range crossbows.

Their only thought was to use the crossbows to repel the ambushers who had suddenly appeared and were blocking the dock.

As for the terrifying thing on the ship that had posed the greatest threat to them and forced them to jump ship in such haste,

they didn't care anymore. The dock couldn't hold any more people, and getting on the ship was better than being in the seawater.

Groups of Ironborn sailors, soaking wet, climbed back onto the sailboat, glaring at the Knights Errant soldiers on the dock, vowing to make them and the fishermen of the port behind them pay the price.
