Chapter 18 - The Reason

Beneath the Wall, Castle Black.

Jon Snow, upon receiving news of his father Ned's beheading, forgot all the dissuasion and the Night's Watch oath, and was about to leave, pulling his horse along.

He was going to King's Landing, even if it meant death, to take down Joffrey.

His good brother, Samwell Tarly, seeing this, was startled and quickly pulled two companions to chase after him on horseback.

This was unacceptable; a deserter from the Night's Watch would be considered a fugitive punishable by beheading throughout the North, even the continent of Westeros. In the pitch-black woods, Jon Snow had just ducked under a branch lying across the path when a scream came from behind him. It was Samwell Tarly, who, lacking any agility, had clearly been caught by the branch and fallen from his horse.

Jon Snow reluctantly turned back to see if his friend was dead. He checked on Samwell and found that the thick-skinned fellow was perfectly fine.

Jon Snow sighed, dismounted, and said, "I'm going to the front lines to find my brother. My brother Robb is fighting the Lannisters."

"We are your brothers now. Have you forgotten your Night's Watch oath?"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death.

I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men.

I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

Clumsy oxen, holding torches, surrounded Jon Snow, resolutely blocking him with their vows. Fat Sam also picked up Longclaw and handed it over.

Jon Snow looked at Longclaw, a gift from Lord Commander Mormont, and finally remembered his duty. He was a member of the Night's Watch, and he had to fight for the Wall and all of Westeros.

After a busy morning, Lynn returned to the Lord's manor from the artisan workshop.

He saw the head of the guard, Hudd, walking over with a pockmarked woman. The woman, wearing a black cloak, concealed most of her body beneath it. Upon seeing Lynn, she naturally lifted the hood covering her head, fully revealing her coiled black hair.

"My lord, the person has been brought," the guard, Hood, reported with a bow.

Lynn nodded to Hood and turned his gaze to the woman, asking, "You are Sili?"

The woman respectfully gave a deep bow and replied, "Yes, my lord."

The maid raised her face, looking at Lynn calmly, her eyes lacking the timidity common among the servants in the territory.Lynn was slightly surprised, but quickly averted his gaze and slowly sat down on a carved chair. "Can you tell me about Daenerys?"

The woman also lowered her eyes to examine Lynn, bending down just the right amount to ask, "My lord, what would you like to know?"

Lynn looked at the woman with slightly grayish-black skin, an oval face, and a high, firm chest, paused, and said softly, "Then let's start with why Daenerys, as a bastard, claims to be a Tully and not a Riverwood. I had people investigate, and King's Landing never legitimized any bastard daughters of the Tully family."

After he finished speaking, the living room fell silent for a moment. The woman, Hillary, lowered her head slightly, her eyes flickering as she said:

"As you know, Dani is not a legitimate member of the Tully family, and she shouldn't have the Tully surname."

Hood, who was standing nearby, finally understood that the new housekeeper the lord had recruited was a self-proclaimed bastard daughter of the Tully family.

This was very hypocritical, and Hood felt even more disdain for Dani in his heart.

However, Lynn didn't say anything, and Hood didn't dare to speak sarcastically.

Hillary changed her tone, and said in a somewhat lonely whisper, "Providence is amazing."Dany's father, Ser Edmure Tully, as heir to Riverrun, never liked Dany. He believed that a bastard son or daughter could never amount to anything. When he learned that Dany's mother was carrying Tully blood, Edmure flew into a rage and vowed to drive Dany's mother away.

Lynn nodded slightly in agreement. In Game of Thrones, bastards have always been unwelcome. Even Ned, a man of such integrity, couldn't grant Jon, who he claimed was his bastard son, the Stark name when he brought him to Winterfell, nor could he make his wife Catelyn and the people of Winterfell feel much affection for Jon.It's already a great achievement that Jon Snow lived and grew up.

In comparison, Edmure is even more of a spineless character.

However, this makes Lynn even more curious about the reason why Daenerys would have the Tully name.Hilly didn't pause for long and continued,

"Ser Aemond was unwilling to let the pregnant maid stay, after all, her mother was just a maid of low status. Ser Aemond wanted to force Dany's mother to drink 'tansy' and drive her out of Riverrun. However, soon the Duke of Riverrun, Lord Hoster, learned of this. He stopped Ser Aemond, allowed the maid to give birth to Dany, and let her call herself a Tully."

Was this the idea of the old Duke Hoster?Lynn was a little taken aback. For someone who always held his family's reputation and name in such high regard, to actually allow a bastard daughter to stay in the Tully family and privately grant her the family name...

Lynn found it hard to understand.

The head of the guard, Hode, blurted out in rebuttal, "That's impossible."

Celia pursed her lips and slowly replied:

"It is indeed hard to believe, but it's the absolute truth."

"But you still haven't said why Duke Hoster took in Dani back then."Hilly shook her head and said, "On that point, I truly don't know. Dany's mother once said that it was Ser Aemond who mentioned the word 'tansy,' which angered Lord Hoster and led to the final outcome."

"Tansy?"

In Game of Thrones, Hoster Tully, in his dying moments, was filled with deep regret and pain, and he murmured a few words.

In his confused state, he repeatedly mentioned Lysa and Lysa's abortion.

He also mentioned a word called "tansy."Lynn remembered the reason was that years ago, after Hoster's daughter Lysa Tully lost her virginity to Littlefinger, she was forced to drink something with abortive effects, called 'tansy,' and Hoster had always felt guilty about it.

Lynn tapped his fingers on his knee, pondering.

It was probably the forced abortion of Lysa Tully back then that had always weighed on Duke Hoster's mind, so he didn't want such a human tragedy to happen to the Tully family again?Hood glanced at the pensive Lord, then looked at Ciri and asked, "If that's the case, and you chose to leave Riverrun and retire to Fishermen's Port, then why did Dani steal the Lord's horse and leave?"

"Ever since Duke Hoster fell ill, the Tullys wanted to marry Dani to Walder Frey as his ninth wife. At the time, the Lannister army was approaching Riverrun, and the city was in chaos. I took Dani and escaped here by water. This used to be my hometown. Old Dark, who used to be a fishmonger on the corner of the port street, is my father.""As for why Miss Dany left," Shilly said, shaking her head, "I only know that someone knocked on Dany's door in the morning, and after she met with someone, she left in a hurry."

Lynn estimated the time, and according to the plot, old Duke Hoster should be about to die, and someone from Riverrun brought this message to Dany.

"Who else in Riverrun knows you escaped here?" Lynn asked Shilly.

Shilly whispered, "A servant from the Duke's mansion, he secretly let us out of the Duke's mansion."Lynn raised an eyebrow, sighed, and said, "Hood, you notify the attendants who went after them to Torrent City to keep an eye on things and report back if anything happens, but don't take any rash actions."
