The Ironborn sailors, under the orders of their captain and first mate, began adjusting their crossbows.
The counterattack came swiftly.
The powerful crossbows mounted on the Ironborn longships began firing into the crowd engaged in close combat on the docks.
The chilling twang of crossbow strings echoed.
Arrows pierced through the blood mist and severed limbs, embedding themselves in the thick wooden planks of the dock.
The Riders' Company, responsible for the first wave of the ambush, directly withstood the Ironborn sailors' close-quarters hacking and slashing.
The enemy had recovered from their initial panic. The Swift Rider squad could barely push their formation to the docking point of the pier, forcing the Ironborn disembarking from the planks to be unable to return to their ships.
However, the Swift Rider squad's formation could only advance this far.
Any further would be extremely difficult.
Their opponents were not pushovers; they were several times more ferocious and ruthless than ordinary pirates.
If they hadn't taken advantage of the terrain, using the narrow space and the advantage of their formation to suppress the enemy, allowing them to fully launch an attack would have had unimaginable consequences.
But even so, for every half meter the ambush team advanced towards the pier, they had to pay the price of two or three soldiers dying in battle. In the blink of an eye.
Dozens of corpses had already piled up on this long wooden bridge of the pier, and blood had completely dyed this section of the coastline red.
"Maintain formation!" the Xiaoqi Regiment squad leader roared.
A powerful crossbow bolt shot not far from his feet, fortunately missing its mark slightly, first piercing the body of an Ironborn sailor, and then, with inertia, breaking open the Xiaoqi Regiment's tight formation.
Goudan, from the second echelon of the formation, was about to be pushed to the first echelon.
Because almost all ten soldiers in the first echelon of the Xiaoqi Regiment had been sacrificed.Although Gou Dan really wanted to turn his head to see which guy was constantly nudging his butt with his knee, a posture that annoyed him, the innate discipline of the Swift Cavalry Corps kicked in. If his attention was drawn away by the commotion behind him, the area in front would become the most dangerous. He stared straight ahead with wide eyes, knowing that he had to immediately fill the gap left by his fallen comrade in front of him, and preferably take advantage of the momentum to make a small charge, chop off an enemy's head, and push the formation forward a little bit. Gou Dan gripped his long saber tightly, panting heavily, ready to strike. In terms of individual combat ability, the Ironborn, born in the harsh environment of the Iron Islands and known for their brutality, are far superior to the Golden Company.
However, they are much worse in terms of combat discipline.
Looking at the crossbow bolts coming from behind, they are constantly killing their own men.
The Ironborn sailors on the docks are constantly turning back and roaring in anger, and the narrow space of the battle is filled with curses.
"Are you blind? Aim and shoot!"
"Damn it, you pig teammates."
In close combat, the Ironborn fighting fiercely on the docks are having a hard time, and the Ironborn on the ships are even more miserable.Harry and the archers, aboard the departing fishing boats, had already outflanked them.
"Loose!"
Archers poured out of the holds of the two fishing boats,
unleashing a volley of arrows at the Ironborn sailors on the deck of the merchant ship, targeting their backsides as they adjusted the ballista.
Caught in a pincer attack, the Ironborn sailors were completely panicked, barely able to dodge, and naturally their aim was terrible.
The ambush squad of the Brave Riders on the docks felt the pressure lessen dramatically.
Harry Kane drew an arrow from his quiver, nocked it, and fired in one smooth motion, piercing the head of an Ironborn sailor preparing to fire a ballista. The next moment, he was startled to discover that the enemies on the ship closest to him seemed to have completely abandoned control of the ballista.
They were hiding in the blind spots of the archers on the fishing boat.
This was an ostrich strategy, completely useless, and no one would make such a stupid choice on the battlefield.
There must be something else going on.
Harry Kane, the commander of the Swift Rider archers, was puzzled by this.
A moment later, screams and the sounds of fighting came from the opposite ship.
This made him even more confused.
"Could it be that a mutiny has occurred on the enemy ship?"Seeing that the other party made no move to retaliate, he began to climb the mast of the fishing boat.
Glancing out of the corner of his eye, he saw that on the opposite sailboat, the hatch leading below deck had been opened, and several seemingly mummified, knife-wielding monsters were pouring onto the deck from below.
The Ironborn and the mummies were immediately entangled in a bloody melee at the hatchway.
"What are those monsters?"
Harry Kane gasped.
He stared in astonishment at the other ship, where a withered, mummified creature had been hacked at repeatedly by the Ironborn, yet didn't even fall down immediately.Harry Kane's gaze was drawn to the bizarre scene on the ship, and when he came back to his senses, he discovered...
On the fourth ship of the Iron Islands fleet, there was also chaos.
The Ironborn sailors on that ship were now acting like madmen, frantically raising the anchors they had previously dropped.
The moment the anchor was raised.
The ship couldn't wait to set sail.
Instead of making the wiser choice to disengage from the battle and flee into the sea, the ship charged straight towards the coastline.
Harry Kane looked astonished, "Are they crazy?""That's a shallow water area over there, aren't these people afraid of running aground?"
"On the Fisher Village Port city wall."
"Guard Captain Hood pointed to one of the Ironborn ships and said, 'Sir, the enemy is raising sails and weighing anchor, preparing to escape.'"
"Lynn narrowed his eyes, following Hood's direction, and after a moment he shook his head and said, 'No, the bow is pointing towards the coast.'"
"Hood quickly realized that Lynn was right."
"Are they planning to land by running aground? Why would they do that, could it be... Sir, are they going to bypass the docks and attack the Fisher Village Port defenses directly?"Lynn didn't answer, he was just as confused, and after thinking about it, this seemed to be the only possibility.
If the other side was preparing for a desperate fight, that would be bad.
His entire army had been deployed on the docks and fishing boats.
If they were to regroup on the beach and spread out their formation.
Not only would his side not have a numerical advantage, but with individual combat strength inferior to the enemy, the situation would likely get out of control easily.
Lynn saw this, and his guard, Hood, was equally aware of the danger. If the enemy forced a landing and engaged in open battle, even the lord's elite cavalry would probably be no match. He swallowed hard, belatedly realizing the danger, and hesitated, "Sir, shouldn't we withdraw the troops and defend the city!"
"Don't panic!" Lynn frowned. "The Ironborn sailors on the first ship are entangled by the Vanguard Cavalry ambush, and the fifth ship is being held back by our archers. They can't regroup so quickly!"
Lynn's words instantly woke Hood up. If only the sailors from one ship were charging over, with the protection of the city walls, Fisher Village Port wouldn't be so easily breached.
He remembered his duty. As the only city wall defense force, his small number of men was indeed a bit lacking. He called out the names of two guards, "Go and mobilize the city's residents to defend the gates, quickly!"
Just then, the guard on watch in the city wall watchtower shouted, "Look, are those the Bite Bay pirate ships? Damn it, aren't they all dead?"
Lynn also saw the target on the horizon.
A ship flying the Three Sisters pirate flag appeared on the sea not far away, moving quickly from south to north along the coastline.
Lynn was slightly stunned.
But his eyes narrowed instantly, and a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. The system had already promoted him for completing the territory occupation mission days ago, so the ship definitely wouldn't be from the Biting Bay pirates.
It must be Rodarte returning with the infantry regiment.
Lynn said calmly, "Our reinforcements have arrived."
