The clock struck 1:07am. June, a third year law student lay on her bed. Staring at the fan on the ceiling. She couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried.
He phone laid next to her with the unsent message: you won't know, but I really liked you.
She tossed, turned and sighed over and over.
She sat up again, picked up her phone, and stared at the message. After a long pause, she finally deleted it.
It had been a year since they met. A year since she left some one into her heart only to be crushed completely.
They were no longer friends, they didn't even get a proper goodbye.
This haunted her When a wake and in her dreams too.
She never seemed to have a break from what happened a year ago.
Before all this, a year ago, she was just a second year law student. A total loner with not many friends and only interested in studying. She had blue braids and dressed not to stand out.
If she wasn't studying she would be in her room reading novels, webcomics or journaling.
Despite her major being a very demanding one, she still managed to balance it out with her normal life.
The day they first met was a normal sunny and hot weekday. She was in the lecture hall waiting for the lecturers to start.
That's when he showed up. He was of medium height and dressed in simply but smartly dressed.
He wore the brightest smile she had ever seen. He seemed lost but didn't bother to ask for directions.
He sat right in front of her. No hesitation.
Pulled out his phone. Started watching videos. Like he didn't care at all.
When the lecturer finally began class, he glanced around the room in confusion, glanced then turned to the back facing June to whisper.
"Hey, I think I have the wrong place. I was supposed to be at orientation."
Orientation was happening late afternoon for new intakes.
She leaned forward and whispered, "Yeah. It's in the other building. Starts in the afternoon."
He smiled again wider this time.
"Thanks."
She didn't respond. Just looked away. But she could still feel his eyes on her.
Then, he whispered again.
"Do you know someone called Dexter?"
June shook her head. "No."
He nodded. "Okay."
That should've been it. But he didn't leave. He stayed through the whole class taking no notes, zoning in and out.
When the class finally ended, he turned again.
"I didn't really want to go to orientation," he said with a sheepish grin.
"But wow. If this is what studying law feels like… I'm scared."
She gave him a faint smile, unsure what to say.
"Anyways see you around Blue."
And just like that, he left.
Even now, a year later she remembered that moment clearly. His smile, so bright and warm, his voice so low and calm.
He had seemed like the type of person who would crash into someone's life without warning… and leave messy footprints everywhere.
And he did.
Dear diary,
Am completely breaking apart,
I don't know what to do
Who to talk to?
It's been a year and I can't forget him. It's like my mind is a broken record player stuck in a loop.
It's 1:07am and I still can't sleep.
~June
