The Chosen One to Rule Them All Chapter 1

Chapter 1: The Average 18-Year-Old Senior and His Best Friend

Rex Dragonis, an ordinary 18-year-old boy, opened his eyes to a room packed with anime, manga, and all kinds of nerdy treasures. Star Trek, Star Wars, D&D, Warhammer 40k—if it existed, he wanted it. Fantasy was his passion, a love passed down from his parents, who adored him. They worked long hours to support him and themselves, and though they often had little time to spare, they shared his hobby and encouraged it.

Rex never blamed them for missing events or spending less time together than they wished. He knew they were doing their best for him. As he stretched, he caught a delightful smell drifting from the kitchen. His senses had always been strangely sharp—far sharper than anyone else's—but he never questioned it. To him, it was just another cool quirk.

He smiled. That must be Regina. She's extremely nice to me. "I don't deserve a friend like her," he thought cheerfully. He still couldn't believe someone from the Sandford Group—the most powerful pharmaceutical company in the world—would visit his home regularly, cook for him, and look after him.

He hurried down the stairs, ready to greet her, but before he could speak, Regina Sandford turned toward him with perfect timing, as if she had read his mind. "Well, good morning, sleepyhead. What am I going to do with you?" she teased. "Go wash up. Breakfast will be ready soon, and we still need to get ready for school."

Her voice was warm with a touch of melancholy. Her long platinum hair shimmered like moonlight all the way down to her waist. With a face that would shame professional models and large, enchanting golden eyes, she looked like something out of a dream. She held a whisk in one hand, had an apron tied neatly around her waist, and gave him an adorably pouty, slightly annoyed expression.

Rex bolted back upstairs, grabbed his school uniform from the closet, and rushed into the shower. He washed his face, brushed his teeth, and put on the male uniform of Barkley and Green High—one of the most prestigious academies in the United States. Only the privileged attended… unless you were exceptionally gifted, a genius, or a promising athlete. Graduates were practically guaranteed a place among the elite.

"Rex! Breakfast is ready!" Regina called from the kitchen. Unable to contain his excitement, Rex dashed downstairs to find a perfectly arranged full American breakfast waiting for him—pancakes, biscuits, bacon, scrambled eggs, and gravy, all steaming and fresh.

Regina sighed as Rex began to eat, her expression tight with worry. Rex noticed immediately and paused mid-bite. Regina? What's wrong?" She opened her mouth to respond, closed it, tried again, and failed. Only on the third attempt did the words finally come out.

"Rex… Tomorrow is your eighteenth birthday. I'm not sure how to say this, but… things are going to happen. Big things. Life-changing things. Events that will completely alter how you see the world—how you see reality. I need you to be strong and to remember that I'm always here for you."

Rex blinked, confused. "What does that even mean?" But after a moment of thought, he simply shrugged and said with a carefree grin, "Eh, I won't worry about it as long as you're here." He went right back to eating his pancakes as if nothing had been said.

Regina let out a long, frustrated breath. "That's exactly the problem…" She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Fine. I'll give you a hint. What if I told you… Are we not human? Is that finally getting through your thick skull?" Rex froze mid-chew. Not human? What are you talking about? That makes no sense. Is this a joke?" He asked after swallowing the last bite of his pancake.

"No," Regina replied firmly. "Rex… when have you ever heard me joke about something this serious?" Her voice slipped into a low, irritated growl—one that sent a cold shock through his body.

Realizing she'd scared him, Regina immediately softened, her expression shifting with guilt. "I'm sorry, Rex. Truly. You know I lose my temper sometimes. I promise… tomorrow everything will make sense. Events will happen that will force you to see." Rex nodded slowly, unsure. "Okay, Regina… I don't really get what you're saying, and honestly, it sounds a bit unrealistic. But whatever it is, I'm sure you'll handle it. You always do."

And it was true. Regina had displayed impossible strength and intelligence from childhood onward. She excelled in everything she attempted and was always there to fix his messes, help him succeed, and steer him away from trouble.

Rex knew he was gifted too—stronger than other students, faster, and sharper. But he chalked it up to genetics. Maybe he was just lucky, or maybe he simply worked harder. And who wouldn't perform well when Regina, the Student Council President and the most admired girl at Barkley and Green High, was always at his side?

Still, being exceptional had its downsides. He was bullied constantly—jealous boys who hated how effortlessly talented he was and despised even more his close bond with Regina. More than once, he'd been shoved, beaten, or insulted.

He thought to himself, I could wipe the floor with them if I wanted… but it's not worth the energy. Regina always steps in anyway. So why bother? This attitude drove Regina half mad. "You have the power to stand up for yourself!" she would scold him endlessly. "How do you expect to protect a girl someday when the time comes?"

. Rex always answered with the same smug, teasing grin. "I'll never have to worry about that. I have you. And no jealous mutt in heat is going to change that, Regina." Every time he said it, Regina's face lit up in a deep, mortified blush. I—I don't find men like that even slightly attractive…" she would mutter, pouting as she turned her head away—mostly so he wouldn't catch the small smile threatening to break through.

They had just finished breakfast and were sipping the last of their morning coffee when Regina glanced at the clock—and froze. They were about to be late. In a rush, she dug her school uniform out of her bag, so flustered that she completely forgot Rex was still in the room. She started changing right then and there. Rex spun around in shock, his face burning, and she quickly snapped at him to wait outside.

Rex rushed outside, sensing the urgency, and waited on the porch. Five minutes later, Regina burst through the door, already in a panic. Rex apologized, but she brushed it off with a quick, "Don't worry, you're forgiven. But we're going to be late at this rate!" She took off sprinting down the sidewalk toward school. "Wait up, Regina!" Rex shouted at the top of his lungs as he ran after her toward Barkley and Green High.

Partway along their route to school, someone Rex absolutely did not want to run into stepped into their path. Damn… Dirk Peterson. One of Barkley and Green's wealthiest—yet most notorious—bullies. Dirk was infamous for holding a personal grudge against Rex, convinced that Regina belonged to him in body, heart, and soul.

Dirk flashed a smug grin. "Come on, Regina. You know you're too good to be hanging around with a loser like Rex. How about I give you a ride to school? Maybe afterward we can… get to know each other better. What do you say?"

Dirk's eyes shifted to Rex trailing behind Regina, and he let out a low, mocking laugh. "Well, if it isn't the rat himself. Speak of the devil, and he shows up. What's a little shit stain like you doing anywhere near Regina? I thought I told you to stay away from my girl." Without warning, Dirk leapt into the air and delivered a roundhouse kick straight to Rex's face. The impact landed squarely on Rex's cheek, with something brown smeared on the bottom of Dirk's shoe.

"Whoops—my bad," Dirk said with a fake apologetic grin. "I stepped in some dog shit this morning. Hope my little rug doesn't mind too much, hehe…" He grabbed Rex by the hair and dragged his face across the pavement as he aggressively wiped the bottom of his shoe against Rex's cheek, grinding the foul mess into his skin. Dirk laughed the entire time, savoring every moment. When he finally let go, Rex collapsed to the ground. A bright red imprint marked his cheek, and the sickening stench of dog waste clung to him.

Phew, that smell is terrible, bro. Regina, I believe this rug has seen better days. I think it belongs in the trash. He then picked Rex up and began moving him towards a dumpster in a random alley, laughing maniacally the entire time.

Regina then teleported in front of him, grabbed his shirt, and lifted his massive frame, causing Dirk to panic. Dirk then noticed she had predatory eyes and an aura of death. Her actions left him completely stunned. How can a girl half my size grab me like a ragdoll? I am the standout defensive tackle at Barkley and Green. Nobody has been able to push me off the line of scrimmage, let alone touch me. I'm an unstoppable force.

She placed his ear against her mouth and whispered. If you lay a single finger on my mate again, I will kill you and your entire family tree, burn down your house with everyone inside, and piss on the ashes. Fucker, don't tempt me. Except for him, no one else owns me. I put up with your antics because you amused me by approaching. You are now boring and irritating me. Now, weasel, run along; you smell like shit.

This is not the last of me," he yelled as he pissed and shit his pants, then got into his car and drove away from the school, clearly going home to change his underwear.

Regina chuckled and moved closer to Rex. Come on, you and I are built differently. I know the loser did not cause you any significant harm. We need to get to school. She then extended her arm and pulled him up. They then continued running toward campus.
