Chapter 1 - 1. Pilot

The glaring sunlight caressed the gentle fields, indifferent to the weariness of overseers and the enslaved labourers.

The exiguous cloud that drifted lazily across the calm, vast sky. Provided relief for the fortunate few who cherished the fleeting comfort more than gold.

The occasional breeze only sought to heighten the labourer's frustration. They unanimously grimaced at their plight. The gust tugged at their rags revealing their scarred back littered with reminders of their class and defiance.

Furthermore ,Aeolus introduced grit and dust to these reminders, which served to highlight what they were. Reminders.

From a birds perspective the plentiful, vast fields filled with enslaved labourers who vastly outnumber the overseers. Why would they subject themselves to continuous arduous toils instead of uniting against the overseers and system. This is a complex question which served as the final conundrum in the admission exams of the Imperial Academy of the Dynasty of Gyestrum.

It was a question posed by the current headmaster who promised whomever could answer an automatic reservation of a spot in the top class upon emission as well as a wish granted by him. Of course we are placing the cart before the horse one had to answer the question correctly before even dreaming of the gift.

Various different answers were put forth many students, and the questions were personally marked by the headmaster.

Soon whispers spread that not a single student had gotten it right. Which was confirmed by the headmaster announcing the question was open to the public.

This infamous question stood open for a millennia until said headmaster died. On the day of his funeral his will was read, and to the attendees surprise he gave his thoughts of this question.

"Though I wished for a clear answer in my lifetime 'tis a shame I will never hear it while I'm alive having lived for a millennium, I've read answers from millions of people, perspectives which I've never considered it seemed a clear and conclusive answer can't be reached."

Throughout the millennia the question began to arise less and less either through loss of interest or censorship by certain individuals. After the headmasters death the popularity of the question soared to new heights especially in the digital age.

Thoughtful answers revolved around the systematic destruction of their unity and identity to slaves , race, gender, sexuality or history.

Other more cynical answers stated that they (the labourers ) understood the place of their race in society and should be grateful to be alive and were protected.

However all the answers were connected by a single red thread—Magic.
