Chapter 1 - New Dawn of Another World

"Is this really happening, or am I trapped in some dream?" I asked, my voice trembling with disbelief as I struggled to grasp the vivid scene unfolding before me.

I found myself ensnared by four heavy chains, the cold metal biting into my skin as two shackles clamped tightly around my wrists and two others bound my ankles with cruel determination. The atmosphere was thick with palpable terror, the ground beneath me transformed into a ghastly canvas of crimson and rain, each droplet mingling with the haunting cries of the innocent—victims mercilessly hunted by monstrous creatures that lurked hungrily in the shadows, their presence felt like a chilling whisper against my skin. The stench of fear clung to the air, more suffocating than the oppressive weight of the chains that bound me, overwhelming my senses and amplifying the sense of dread that settled heavily in my chest. The darkness wrapped around me like a suffocating shroud, every heartbeat echoing the desperation of a world teetering on the edge of oblivion.

Amidst the chaotic turmoil, a courageous girl with flowing blonde hair, encased in shimmering armor that glinted under the dim light, burst into my field of vision. Her determination radiated from her as she sprinted toward me, every stride fueled by a fierce resolve to rescue me from my suffocating despair. Her piercing blue eyes shone with unwavering conviction, igniting a flicker of hope deep within my heart.

But just as that fragile glimpse of salvation began to blossom, her foot struck a slick patch of blood-soaked earth. In an agonizing moment, I watched as she stumbled, teetering precariously on the edge of balance, the armor that once symbolized strength now appearing to weigh her down. My heart raced with silent desperation, the thought echoing in my mind: Was this truly the world's end? Would this brave soul, so close yet so far, falter and fall amidst the violence surrounding us?

"Is this a dream? Please, tell me that this is all just my imagination," I said, my voice trembling with a mix of disbelief and desperation.

After I uttered those haunting words, she was suddenly enveloped by a relentless storm of swords, each one piercing through the air with the ferocity of a lightning bolt crashing down from the heavens. It wasn't merely a flurry of hundreds; it felt as if a million gleaming blades were cascading from the darkened sky, each one a glistening harbinger of doom. The world around us twisted into an ominous tableau, the sky growing heavy with the sheer weight of their descent, each blade catching the light in a way that sent shivers down my spine.

The air trembled with electric anticipation, the scent of iron mingling with the acrid tang of fear that hung heavily in the atmosphere. I could feel my heart pounding in rhythm with the echo of the swords falling, their relentless assault a cruel symphony that played out before my eyes. She was struck again and again, each thrust a moment of cruel finality. My instincts screamed at me to break free, to reach out and save her from this terrifying fate, but I felt paralyzed, caught in the grip of despair.

All that remained in my line of vision was her radiant smile, a beacon of beauty amidst the chaos, and then, in an instant, everything dissolved into darkness. My voice shattered the stillness, a raw and desperate scream of helplessness that echoed into the void, desperate to pierce the silence that enveloped us both.

But let's return to the present. My name is Zin Fortis, and I recognize that it might sound unusual—it's a rare name that has accompanied me through every chapter of my life. Growing up, I endured years of relentless struggle, not only from the demands of daily existence but also from the profound weight of loneliness that pressed down on me like a thick fog. With both of my parents gone, I found myself adrift in a world that often felt starkly cold and indifferent, where their absence echoed painfully in the silence.

This isolation fostered a deep-seated yearning within me: a longing to be seen, to be loved, and to gain the acceptance of those around me. I became consumed with the belief that if I could prove my worth through sheer determination and tireless effort, I might alter how others perceived me. I dedicated myself to my work, pouring hours into every task, convinced that my relentless commitment could fill the void left by my parents and affirm my place in a society that appeared to overlook me. Each late night spent studying or laboring felt like a step toward proving not only my value but also my desire to belong in a world where connection felt just out of reach.

At the age of eight, as I sit in my classroom, an unsettling sensation washes over me, tightening in my chest like a vice. I struggle to articulate what is amiss, but a profound, inexplicable dread takes root deep in my gut, gnawing at my insides. The vibrant colors of the classroom begin to blur, morphing like a watercolor painting that has run and smudged beneath a relentless downpour. I glance around, my heart racing, as my classmates' animated laughter and chatter fade into a dull hum, their voices blending into a cacophony of white noise. Their faces, once familiar, contort into indistinct shapes, shadows edged with an unsettling darkness that hangs heavily in the air like a storm cloud. Each step I take feels unsteady, as if the very ground beneath me is shifting, and I find myself stumbling through the chaotic sea of my peers—lost in a world where safety is just an illusion, and an unseen weight presses down upon my shoulders.

Desperate for a sense of stability, I find solace in the cool, unyielding surface of the classroom wall, allowing it to ground me amidst the turmoil. Each tentative step forward feels like wading through thick fog, as the familiar contours of the classroom morph into an unsettling blur. Sunlight filters through the window, casting playful patterns on the floor, but outside, the vibrant hues of the schoolyard—the joyous laughter of children engaged in carefree play and the expansive azure of the sky—morph into an oppressive void, swallowing the warmth and light. The once-inviting playground now seems like a distant memory, replaced by an overwhelming sense of isolation that settles heavily on my chest.

In that pitch-black darkness, a figure materializes, cloaked in an impenetrable shadow that seems to absorb the very light around it. I find myself unable to discern any defining features, and an icy grip of fear clutches at my heart. The presence is both unsettlingly alien and hauntingly familiar, stirring an instinctual dread deep within me. The stranger's eyes are obscured, leaving only a gaping void where they should be—an abyss that amplifies my horror and threatens to swallow me whole.

As the world around me shifts from an oasis of comfort to a realm of unrelenting terror, the atmosphere grows thick with an unsettling tension. Shadows dance menacingly along the walls, and I feel my breath quicken, echoing in the silence like a frightened animal's heartbeat. Each pulse of my fear reverberates in the stillness, intensifying the sensation of foreboding that wraps around me like a heavy blanket. I stand trembling, my mind racing, engulfed in a disquieting realization that something unspeakable lurks just beyond my grasp.

"Is that really me?" I murmured, my voice trembling with a mix of disbelief and trepidation. The reflection staring back at me felt foreign, as if I were looking at a stranger in a dimly lit mirror.

"Is this what you truly want?" that person inquired, a sly smile stretching across their lips, their eyes gleaming with a curious blend of mischief and challenge. The air was thick with tension, amplifying the weight of their words as I grappled with the reality of this moment.

I found myself engulfed in a dense haze of confusion, each moment feeling like an eternity as I struggled to piece together the fragments of my disarrayed thoughts. Gradually, however, clarity began to seep back into my consciousness like the first light of dawn breaking through a darkened sky, restoring a semblance of normalcy to the chaotic world around me. I endeavored to brush aside the lingering remnants of fear that clung to my psyche, those haunting echoes of a scene replaying in my mind—a painful tableau I desperately wished to forget.

Then, one fateful day, everything changed, shattering the delicate illusion I had constructed around myself. As I sat quietly, ostensibly partaking in the camaraderie of my friends—those whom I had placed my unreserved trust in—I became an unwitting witness to a caustic conversation that unfolded like a dark comedy. Their voices dripped with disdain as they called me foolish and naive, their words sharp as daggers, slicing through the fabric of my perceived friendships.

A chilling realization washed over me like a sudden deluge of ice water, numbing my veins and eradicating the warmth of my ignorance: I had been nothing more than a pawn in their intricate game, manipulated for their own selfish purposes, blind to the betrayals that wove through the very fabric of our interactions, cloaked in the deceptive familiarity of laughter and shared experiences. This betrayal felt like a bitter poison coursing through my veins, extinguishing the trust I had so steadfastly placed in them, leaving me with nothing but the stark truth of my own innocence.

"That fool has no idea that his actions amount to nothing more than a mere distraction for us. He believes we're genuinely interested in his friendship, but in truth, we're simply leveraging his naivety for our own amusement," one of my friends remarked, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. The other friend chuckled, clearly entertained by the candid confession, their laughter echoing the shared understanding of the joke at his expense.

In a moment of overwhelming desperation, I found myself acting on impulse, surrendering to a torrent of emotions that clouded my judgment. The chaos in my heart and mind surged like a tempest, drowning out all rational thought. In that fleeting instant, I made a choice I now deeply regret—an irrevocable mistake etched in my memory that I yearn to erase, much like a scar that never truly fades. The weight of my actions looms over me like a dark cloud, oppressive and unyielding, serving as a constant reminder of how fragile control can be and the dire consequences that can arise from a single moment of reckless abandon. Each day, I grapple with the haunting echoes of that split-second decision, reflecting on the paths not taken and the lives forever altered by my misstep.

As a teenager navigating the tumultuous waters of adolescence, I found myself enveloped in a close-knit circle of friends, each one a vital thread in the fabric of my social life. Among them was a girl with whom I secretly harbored hopes of a deeper connection, someone I dared to dream could transcend the boundaries of friendship. I believed that at last, my relentless quest for belonging and acceptance might yield the fulfillment I longed for.

However, fate intervened with an unforgiving twist. One seemingly ordinary day, she abruptly severed our bond, casting me aside like a forgotten toy. The shock of her decision left me reeling, abandoned in the midst of my former closest companions, who now felt like distant echoes of laughter that only deepened my isolation. I still vividly recall those moments of joy shared among us, the laughter that once filled the air now a haunting reminder of my humiliation and heartbreak. It felt as if the universe conspired against me, turning my aspirations into a cruel chorus that underscored my solitude.

"Haha, you're nothing but just a dumb clown to us, you bastard, you jerk," those cruel taunts echoed in my mind, leaving a painful imprint that I couldn't shake off. Each time I crossed paths with them, the sting of their words struck me anew, like a cold dagger plunging into my chest. I could almost see their mocking laughter, hear the derision in their voices, and feel the weight of their disdain, making it impossible to forget the wounds they had inflicted.

In that moment, a profound ache gripped my chest, heavy and unrelenting, as I cast my gaze downward, fixating on the cracked pavement beneath my feet, longing to dissolve into its crevices and become invisible. The laughter, sharp and mocking, continued to crescendo around me, a chilling soundtrack to my despair. They had turned bullying into a cruel art form, each taunt and jeer building upon the last, stripping away my dignity day by day. I had long since lost count of the times their vicious words had sliced through me, leaving emotional scars far deeper than any physical mark. The joyful memories we once shared now felt like distant echoes, drowned out by the overwhelming darkness of pain that enveloped my mind.

My glasses, which had once served as a window to my identity and the world beyond, had become mere casualties in their relentless campaign of cruelty, the lenses shattered again and again, mirroring my fractured sense of self. Each time the laughter erupted, it chipped away at who I thought I was. I couldn't comprehend how I had come to see her as my best friend, nor could I fathom why I cherished her so dearly, as if she were a treasure. Yet here I was, trapped in a cycle of torment, as that moment of betrayal recurred yet again, twisting the knife of despair deeper into my heart.

I strive relentlessly to reclaim my sense of self, battling an overwhelming urge to escape the anguish that weighs upon me, yet the fear clings to me like a shadow, relentless and suffocating, leaving me feeling powerless in its grasp.

On yet another ordinary day, I stepped through the door and slid into the comforting embrace of my sanctuary—my room. The familiar scent of old books mixed with a hint of lavender from the diffuser filled the air, wrapping around me like a warm blanket. I sank onto my bed, the soft sheets cool against my skin, a soothing contrast to the oppressive heat of the harassment I had endured outside. The sounds of the world faded away, replaced by a gentle hush that enveloped me in stillness. In that sacred space, I searched desperately for a fleeting escape from the chaos that swirled relentlessly in my mind, a tempest of thoughts clamoring for attention. I closed my eyes, willing the outside world to fade further, yearning for peace amidst the turmoil that clung to my heart.

"Ugh, that's strange. I can't shake this shiver that runs down my spine. Why do I feel so uncharacteristically cold right now?" Confusion clouds my mind as I try to make sense of the unexpected chill enveloping me.

As I slowly open my eyes, I am greeted by a vast expanse of clear blue sky, unmarred by clouds and radiating a warm, inviting glow. Below me, a dense forest stretches out, its vibrant green canopy swaying gently in the breeze. Among the foliage, I notice peculiar blue creatures that resemble slimes—translucent and gelatinous, they shimmer like polished sapphires in the sunlight, gliding effortlessly across the ground as they leave trails of sparkles in their wake.

Just then, a sudden gust of wind picks up, rustling the leaves and sending a shiver down my spine. In an instant, the tranquil scene around me darkens ominously as an immense shadow sweeps over. My heart races, instinctively prompting me to look up and confront the source of this encroaching darkness.

"Wha-what? What is that creature? It looks like a dragon!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening in astonishment. The magnificent beast stood before me, its scales shimmering like precious gemstones in the sunlight, and its massive wings unfurled dramatically, casting a shadow that swallowed the ground beneath us. The intricate patterns on its hide glistened with iridescence, and its piercing eyes seemed to hold ancient wisdom. The air crackled with an electric energy as I struggled to comprehend the sight before me, a mythical being straight out of legend.

After witnessing the breathtaking spectacle of a colossal dragon gliding gracefully through the cerulean expanse, I shifted my gaze toward a distant kingdom sprawled across the horizon like a forgotten jewel. This once-vibrant realm, filled bore the charred scars of devastation, had recently fallen victim to the furious onslaught of the very dragon I had just glimpsed. The air was thick with the acrid scent of smoke, mingling with the earthy aroma of scorched earth, while the remains of smoldering buildings stood as ghostly silhouettes against the dying light. Crumbling towers and blackened rooftops told tales of chaos, and a heavy silence enveloped the landscape, broken only by the distant crackling of embers and the mournful calls of displaced creatures searching for refuge.

Fortunately, it appeared that the loss of life had been minimal, yet the devastation surrounding me was strikingly palpable. As I drew nearer to the grand gates of the kingdom, two imposing knights emerged from the shadows, their imposing figures clad in intricately designed armor that shimmered in the sunlight like shards of shattered crystal. The metallic surfaces reflected a kaleidoscope of light, creating an almost ethereal glow that contrasted sharply with the disarray enveloping the area.

One of the knights, his stern countenance softened only slightly by a flicker of concern in his piercing blue eyes, raised a gloved hand to halt my advance. His voice, though commanding, held a note of urgency as he inquired,

"Stop right there! You can't enter without an adventurer card," the first Knight declared, his voice firm and authoritative, echoing slightly against the stone walls of the grand castle.

"An adventurer card? What exactly is that?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued as I took a step closer, trying to peer past him into the bustling courtyard filled with vibrant banners and the clamor of excitement that beckoned me forward.

Even though I remain haunted by the shadows of my past, which have shaped me into this introverted version of myself, a sudden surge of fear propelled me to ask him a question. The panic raced through me, yet amidst that turmoil, an unsettling realization began to dawn—my grasp on their language went far beyond simple understanding. I could express myself with remarkable fluency and ease, as though this linguistic skill had been nestled within me all along, waiting to be awakened.

In that moment, a strange calmness enveloped me, perhaps a byproduct of my countless hours spent immersed in the rich narratives of manga and anime. These vibrant worlds have, oddly enough, infused me with resilience and fortitude, helping me navigate the chaos around me.

But more perplexing than my newfound confidence is the profound silence that blankets this once-bustling area. Just moments ago, the kingdom had been ablaze, a dramatic spectacle ignited by the relentless assault of a ferocious dragon. Its scales shimmered, reflecting the fiery hues of destruction as they glistened like molten metal against the backdrop of chaos.

Now, however, all that remains are echoes of devastation, leaving behind an eerie stillness in the air. It feels as if the world itself is holding its breath, suspended in time, after bearing witness to such unspeakable terror. The landscape lies transformed, a haunting reminder of the ferocity that just transpired, now replaced by a disquieting quiet that lingers in the wake of disaster.

As I scan the scene, my gaze is irresistibly drawn to a pair of knights standing resolutely in front of me. Their polished armor, glinting in the dim light, showcases intricate engravings of ancient battles and noble sigils. They are flanked by a group of armored individuals, each bearing a distinctive insignia that symbolizes their allegiance—a majestic golden lion entwined with silver vines, shimmering under the muted glow of the fading sun.

The contrast between the knights' composed demeanor and the devastation surrounding us is striking. Debris litters the ground, remnants of a once-vibrant town now reduced to ruins, smoke curling into the air like ghostly fingers. Before I can delve deeper into the mysteries that unravel before me, the two knights turn their keen gaze upon me, their expressions stern yet suffused with an air of curiosity that hints at unspoken tales. In unison, their voices carry an authoritative resonance as they ask:

"Listen here, young one," the Second Knight said, inspecting the child with a critical eye.

"It's clear you're neither a seasoned adventurer nor a crafty merchant. Without those credentials, you simply cannot enter the kingdom's gates." His voice was firm, yet there was an underlying hint of concern in his tone, as if he understood the dreams that lingered in the child's heart.

"He is right; your outfit does seem a bit weird. May I ask where you from?" the first Knight inquired, his brow furrowing slightly as he examined the curious attire of the stranger before him.

Before I can utter a word, a girl strides toward me with a palpable sense of urgency. She appears to be just a year older than I am, her long, golden hair cascading gracefully around her shoulders like sunlit strands weaving through the air. The brilliant light catches on her shimmering armor, which is expertly crafted and emblazoned with a distinct emblem—a gathering of figures intertwined, symbolizing unity and strength, representing the diverse peoples of the Kingdom.

Yet, what strikes me most is her warm smile; it radiates kindness and reassurance, piercing through the tense atmosphere that clings to our surroundings like a thick fog. It feels as though she carries a light within her that can dispel shadows and soothe troubled hearts. Despite the chaos seemingly looming around us, I find myself unexpectedly comforted by her presence, as if the warmth of her spirit has wrapped around me like a protective cloak.

"Hello there! My name is Alice Silverthorne, and I'm from Holy Knight. It's nice to meet you! May I ask for your name?" The girl introduced herself with a warm smile, her bright eyes sparkling with curiosity.

I find myself taken aback by the strong emotions she stirs within me; there's an undeniable uniqueness about her that captivates my attention. Despite this intrigue, I grapple with a lingering fear that holds me back from reaching out. Every time I muster the courage to strike up a conversation, an invisible barrier seems to rise, preventing my words from flowing freely. It's as if a powerful mix of admiration and trepidation keeps me frozen, torn between the desire to connect and an overwhelming sense of hesitation.

"Wait, what?" I thought, my mind racing with confusion as I tried to process the unexpected twist in the conversation. The words hung in the air, creating a palpable sense of disbelief that settled over me like a thick fog.

In an unexpected moment, I realized that the fear that had been gripping me so tightly began to dissipate. It was as if her smile, warm and genuine, held a power I had never encountered before. The corners of her lips turned up effortlessly, illuminating her face and casting a sense of calm around us. I couldn't quite understand how such a simple expression could evoke such a profound shift within me, but in that instant, I felt an unfamiliar lightness replace my anxiety, and it filled me with a sense of hope I had long thought lost.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked softly, her eyes reflecting genuine concern as she studied his distant expression, as if she were reaching out to bridge the gap of silence that lingered between them.

"What's your name?" She leaned closer, her eyes searching mine, trying to pull me back from the depths of my daydreaming.

My eyes begin to brim with tears as the warmth envelops me for the first time, a sensation so tender and foreign that I can hardly believe it's real. A gentle stir of disbelief whispers in my mind, convincing me that I must be dreaming. Just as those thoughts swirl around me, she grips my shoulder with a firm yet reassuring touch, shaking me softly to draw me back to the present moment. Her presence is both grounding and enchanting, and I can't help but feel a surge of emotion well up within me, blending hope and confusion in equal measure.

"Hey, hey, are you okay?" she asked again, her voice laced with genuine concern as she leaned in closer, squinting slightly to catch a glimpse of his expression. The soft light from the overhead lamp cast gentle shadows on her face, highlighting the worry etched in her features. She studied his eyes, searching for any sign that he was truly alright, hoping to dissolve the heaviness that hung between them.
