Chapter 1 - [DEM] 1: Chaotic World

This world was utterly chaotic.

That was the involuntary sigh Morpheus let out after isekai'd to Tokyo in Japan.

Yes, Morpheus was an average man who get isekai'd.

Just three days ago, he had been an ordinary office drone, a dutiful corporate slave, planning to head back to work after his vacation.

However, when he was just a dozen meters from the company, he suddenly spotted a flower vase plummeting from the sky, heading straight for a child in front of him.

The kid was a thirteen- or fourteen-year-old junior high student, in the bloom of youth.

Morpheus's mind went blank, and he rushed forward, shoving the child out of the way.

He had thought that with his agile reflexes, he could push the kid aside and dodge the falling vase at the same time.

But Morpheus soon realized he had overestimated himself and underestimated the vase's descent speed.

As he pushed the child away and prepared to evade, the vase smashed down.

Right onto Morpheus's head.

His vision went black, and he knew nothing more.

When he opened his eyes again, he had traversed.

The world he had traversed to was a parallel Tokyo.

Well... it wasn't exactly a parallel Tokyo; it was more like an anime Tokyo.

Because this Tokyo boasted super conglomerates like the Shinomiya, Shichijou, Nogizaka, Suzuki, and Sanzenin families, along with schools like Toyogasaki, Sobu High, Hikarizaka, Totsuki, Teitan, and Seigaku.

Without a doubt, this was a crossover world.

But the problem was, this world was too crossover.

It didn't just stitch together a bunch of slice-of-life series; it fused in a ton of other stuff too.

Morpheus did a quick online search and uncovered some astounding things.

Tokyo had a district called Ukiyoe Town.

The Metropolitan Police Department had a big shot named Soichiro Yagami.

There was a remarkably effective shrine online called the Higurashi Shrine.

On TV, there was an active male celebrity named Shuuichi Natori.

Near Tokyo, there was also a place called Tokonosu City.

And then there was a so-called Academy City, claiming technology decades ahead of the current era, dedicated to cultivating espers.

In recent times, even peculiar life forms known as Ajin had appeared.

Good lord, this world was a tangled mess.

And that wasn't all—beyond Tokyo, other places were no less wild.

In America, there was the infamous Raccoon City, and even more intriguing, Silent Hill nearby.

The notorious Umbrella Corporation even had a branch in Tokyo.

New York had a special gang called the Foot Clan.

San Francisco had a special gang called the Dark Hand.

Over in Britain, there was a powerful empire that had swept across half of Europe, called the Holy Britannian Empire.

Rumor had it the current emperor was Charles di Britannia, the 98th emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire.

Internationally, there was a terrorist organization called Mithril, clashing with the Britannian Empire.

Beyond that, Europe had some countries that didn't exist in reality.

Like the Vermillion Empire, the Aldegyr Kingdom, and the Ordiaru Duchy, among others.

This was just what Morpheus had uncovered; he didn't dare imagine how many more there were that he hadn't found.

The waters of this world ran far too deep.

Unfathomably deep, bottomless.

When Morpheus uncovered the truth about this world, he was stunned.

Fine, so that's how we're playing it.

In that case, don't blame me for cheating.

After get isekai'd, how could Morpheus not have a cheat?

His cheat was a system, but it hadn't finished loading yet, so for the three days since traversing, Morpheus hadn't dared step out the door.

Because his predecessor had died in such a horrific way.

Morpheus's predecessor was an ordinary high school student—and that wasn't modesty, because the person he had traversed into truly was a high school student.

The utterly average kind, with no standout features whatsoever.

Neither at the bottom of the class nor a top scholar.

Neither a basketball player nor a famous detective.

So, he really was a thoroughly ordinary high school student.

If there was anything unusual about him, it was perhaps his identity.

The person Morpheus had traversed into was also named Morpheus, an ordinary high school student in Tokyo.

But three days ago, the predecessor had died—died miserably, devoured alive by a yokai, even his soul gnawed to nothing.

All that remained was a pool of blood and a single finger.

After finishing its meal, the yokai patted its behind and left.

But unexpectedly, right after the yokai departed, the predecessor revived.

From that single finger beneath him, he grew back a complete body.

That was quite miraculous.

However, it also proved the predecessor's identity: a genuine Ajin.

But while Ajin could revive from death, they only had one soul.

After his soul was devoured by the yokai, though the body regenerated, it became a vegetable.

It was at that moment that Morpheus traversed in, entering the predecessor's body and taking control.

Precisely because he understood his current identity, Morpheus hadn't left the house for three days. What if he ran into the yokai that had eaten him?

The yokai might think, "Hey, what's this, buddy? I already ate you—how are you alive again?"

Then, upon closer inspection: "Oh, wow, turns out you're an Ajin."

Perfect.

What was this? It was an endless buffet.

No matter how many times it ate, the meal would revive—utterly ideal for a yokai.

One Morpheus could sustain a whole horde of yokai.

What yokai would pass up such a fine buffet?

So, Morpheus had waited at home for a full three days, nearly depleting his food stocks, refusing to step outside.

He had been waiting for one thing.

The system to load.

The three days flew by, and now, at this very moment, the system was finally about to finish loading.

Morpheus sat on the sofa, watching the progress bar in his mind inch forward with a mix of anxiety.

He couldn't help but feel anxious.

This world was too chaotic, too terrifying.

If the system loaded and turned out to be something ordinary—like a plagiarism system or a romance simulator—then he'd be doomed.

In a normal, everyday world, such systems would be fantastic.

But the problem was, this world wasn't normal.

So, Morpheus hoped even more for a powerful system, the kind that could make him unbelievably strong.

Ding!

At that instant, a sound like heavenly music rang in his mind.

The system had finally finished loading.

[Extra-Dimensional Demon System loading complete. Extra-Dimensional Demon System unfolding.]

[Dimension Domain issued.]

[Dimension Domain fusing.]

In that moment, Morpheus felt as if a door had appeared within his body, and beyond it lay a vast, luminous world.

Immense power flowed through that door, surging endlessly into Morpheus's body.

At that instant, Morpheus felt stronger than ever before.

Now, he was terrifyingly powerful.
