Chapter 1 - Liam Hastings

Click!

The lighter in Liam's hands bloomed and a small flame danced atop it.

Liam Hastings slowly brought the lighter to his mouth and lit up the cigarette he was holding there. Smoke soon wafted up from one end and Liam took in a long drag. Letting out a satisfied groan, Liam shut the lighter and placed it on the table beside his bed.

Exhaling a puff, Liam felt as if the world brightened for a moment. It was just his illusion. The world remained the same. Still lighting up a cigarette right after waking up had become one of Liam's habits in the last two years. He felt comfortable after finishing his morning ritual.

Making use of the ashtray on the table beside his bed, Liam looked at the state of his bedroom with a bemused smile on his face.

It was messy. Unbearably so.

Just then, the body beside him moved and the sheet slipped down a few inches. Jessica's bare shoulders became visible, drawing his eyes to them. He admired them for a moment before turning his eyes away.

Taking in another long drag from his cigarette, he idly looked at the messy state of his bedroom. There were discarded clothes all over the floor. They were discarded haphazardly all over the bedroom. It indicated how wild last night was.

Both he and Jessica were all over each other last night. As a result, they didn't even get halfway into his bedroom before undressing each other. By the time they reached the bed, they were both buck naked.

As for what happened later, there was no need to say anything.

What else can happen when a young man in his prime and a hot chick end up naked on the bed?

They had fucked well into the morning.

It had been one wild night for Liam. A perfect ending to his college life as far as he was concerned. The party had begun early in the evening and had lasted till midnight. By then, he and Jessica were truly riled up. They had tried to hold it in until they reached his bedroom. But, that was their limit.

Afterwards, there was no holding back for both of them.

With a brilliant smile, Liam took another puff of his cigarette and let out the smoke. Beside him, Jessica started to stir as well. The morning sunlight was the bane of all late sleepers. It truly had no mercy. The thin rays that were seeping through the window made sure that neither he nor Jessica slept any longer.

By the time Liam was done with his cigarette, Jessica was stirring awake. Jessica blinked her eyes open and looked at him for a moment. Liam gave her a wink and wiggled his eyebrows.

"It is morning huh?" Jessica asked in a stupid manner.

"Close to noon," Liam chuckled. "Get up sleepyhead. Let's go out and grab something to eat. I am starving."

"It is not my fault that we only ended up asleep close to dawn," Jessica rolled her eyes at Liam.

"Oh it is entirely your fault. Who asked you to look that irresistible last night?"

"Urgh, you and your sweet mouth."

"I didn't see you complaining about it last night, eh."

"Shut up! Don't make me horny again."

"Last night wasn't enough, huh?"

"You! Get over here!"

Liam had no objection to it. He immediately pounced on Jessica with gusto and they both ended up tangled once again.

Two hours later, they both emerged from the bedroom with satisfied expressions on their faces. Neither Liam nor Jessica were fully dressed yet. They just made themselves presentable and came down to have some food.

As Liam made omelettes for both of them, Jessica toasted the bread from the fridge and poured some juice for both of them. The duo settled down to have food at the dining table and ate in silence for a while.

"So, this is it, huh?" Jessica asked after drinking the last of her juice.

"I guess it is. We both knew that this was always going to end after graduation. We both have our own things to pursue. I mean, at least you have," Liam chuckled.

"Yeah, I already have my internship secured. It is in Kingsroute. I am afraid that I can't continue to be your girlfriend," Jessica replied flippantly.

"Well, there you have it. Why did you act like a reluctant girlfriend unwilling to part just moments ago? That look didn't suit you at all," Liam teased.

"You ass! Can't you act like a typical boyfriend for one meal? Do you have to ruin my performance," Jessica snorted in dissatisfaction, causing Liam to roll his eyes.

They both knew very clearly that their relationship couldn't be considered as a typical young couple relationship. They both were too worldly and too practical for it. They were both cut from the same cloth. They didn't value emotional connection as much as other youngsters did.

Before they had found each other, they had been in more than a dozen relationships in just two years. If they hadn't run into each other, the number would have only increased further. Luckily, for everyone in the college campus, the duo ran into each other and came together, ending the long list of broken hearts they left in the wake.

Both Liam and Jessica subscribed to the philosophy of youth is for living. Their goal for college life wasn't to graduate like their classmates. For these two second generation rich kids, the days of their college life was to indulge themselves in an unrestrained manner. So, they both got along like fire and oil with each other for the past year, completely indulging in their wild side.

"What about you? What are your plans for the future?" Jessica asked Liam while clearing out her plate.

"Ah, what can I say?" Liam signed theatrically while wolfing down the last piece of omelette on his plate and washing it with some juice. "Unlike you, my old man didn't prepare anything for me to do after graduation. I am afraid I can only go back home and inherit his old business."

Jessica shot Liam a stinkeye after hearing his words. It wasn't that she was jealous of him going back to inherit the family business. She always knew that as the sole heir, Liam faced inherently less obstacles than her in inheriting his family business. Unlike her, who has to prove her mettle by working an internship, Liam had things granted to him on a silver platter.

What made her shoot a stinkeye at him was his theatrical mannerisms. Liam acted as if he was being forced to do it. But, she understood Liam far better than that. She knew he was an ambitious bastard and was already salivating at the prospect of entering the family business. So, she didn't have any pity for him. If anything, she pitied the people who will be running into him later.

"So, you will be headed to Silverlight then?" Jessica asked casually.

"What? Jealous?"

"Jealous? Of what?" Jessica scoffed. "I will be living in Kingsroute. The jewel of East Coast. The fashion capital of the world. The city that never sleeps. What would I be jealous about?"

"Why, it will be all the beauties that I will come into contact with in Silverlight, of course. Aren't you even a little jealous?" Liam asked curiously.

"Pfft, you speak as if Kingsroute lacks charming men," Jessica snorted. "Wake up, not everyone has the ambition to sleep with half the planet. Unlike you, my dream is to bring my family business to the next level."

"Ahh, what's the use of all that wealth if one doesn't indulge in their desires? You sound like my old man. All this talk about family responsibility bores me. Isn't it better to live a life of passion?" Liam retorted indignantly.

Jessica didn't buy the load of crap Liam was selling. Sure, Liam might be lascivious and a bit of a skirt chaser. But, deep down, he was a ruthless individual who had bigger ambitions than her. So, Jessica didn't trust his words.

If anyone trusted Liam's honey coated words, then they would be fooled by this cunning guy. If one was somewhat naive, they wouldn't even realize after this guy sold them and starts counting money in front of them. Trusting Liam would be the stupidest thing anyone could do.

"You sure are a hypocrite, Liam. Don't worry, you will be like a fish in water at Silverlight. That city of upstarts definitely suits you," Jessica replied tartly.

"Eh, as if Kingsroute is any better. It is filled with people wearing fake smiles and holding a knife behind the back. You will be among your kind there," Liam chuckled.

Jessica's eyes narrowed at that. She let out a snort and looked away. The easy banter between them became stagnant and a stifling atmosphere soon erupted between them. Both Liam and Jessica had a lot more to say to each other, but they didn't for some reason.

"Take care in Kingsroute," Liam sighed and broke the silence. "There aren't many people I get along with. I will miss you."

"I won't," Jessica replied waspishly. "And I won't ask you to take care as well. It should be the others who run into your path my pity must be reserved for."

Liam didn't retort. He simply shrugged and gave her his patented lopsided smile. He knew that Jessica cared about him as well, but he also knew that she would never admit it. That wasn't how Jessica operated.

"Alright, do you want to have one last hurrah before we part ways?" Liam asked rising up.

"Don't you have some other line to try? You have been using it since yesterday," Jessica snorted, rising up as well.

"Well, it did always work. As they say, if it ain't broke, then why fix it?"

"Shut up! Come here!"
