Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Journey To Academy [1]

[31/5/2043]

[31/5/2043]

I run through the modern street, passing by people as I was making my way to the Fredixus Academy Ship Entry Terminal. I soon made it to the entrance, I was struggling to breathe after running all the way here, which took over an hour, since I lived at the other side of the town.

"Am I a bit too early?"

Maybe I wasn't early or late.

I was on time to see the entire station fully jam-packed inside like a fish market. Luckily, my bag had everything I need, like… toothbrush, clothes, notebooks, and my diary to keep track of my daily life or an event.

It wasn't much, but it is necessary to have it, after all I am a simple boy who doesn't need so many unnecessary things.

I look around and see students hugging and crying to their parents saying goodbye. If I had loved ones I would probably do that to them, but sadly I don't have anybody to do that.

With my terrible grade, somehow I could join this school with 2.3 GPA in the writing exam. Average was 2.5 GPA and above, but I think they felt pity for me and approved me as an official student.

But…

It was unfair to the 100 candidates who were taking exams and didn't get in because of poor results.

I pity them.

A school would usually be on the mainland most of the time, but my school is an exception. 'Fredixus Magical Academy.' Established in the northern sea of Mystara Kingdom. On an island that is 33,900 km sq where there are 41 thousand students and 5 thousands teachers. This school is the most renowned school in the world; they teach students in magical arts, swords, science, and engineering.

Ever since the downgrade of Core distribution in genetics, almost half of the world population has no magic except a few. They call themselves the Life Core users, who are lucky to have it, unlike other people, who called themselves a pebble society. I'm an unusual person, I never knew that I had magic or even a core to begin with. If the examiners accepted me, then I should have a core at least, but don't know how to activate it.

"This should be a thrilling journey."

I uttered in a soft voice right as I stood at the entrance of the terminal.

I look like the type of guy you see from the streets, but the difference is that I have blue textured crop hair, olive-colored eyes, and pale white skin.

Fortunately, I could afford the school uniform by using all of my money I had in my pockets—white blazer with black stripes, black tie, white button shirt, and black pants.

Thousands of new students who had graduated from middle schools filled Terminal 2 and were entering a school where meeting the requirements would take a long time to graduate. Some students up to 22 years old are still in that school because they couldn't reach the certain criteria.

In front of me, there were four fully packed lines that could wait for over two hours if I enter now.

'What can I do… Should I wait out?' I deliberated in my internal thoughts, dwelling on what I should do to pass the time.

"Hey…" A girl walked up beside me that I didn't realize, as I was in my own thoughts.

'Should I wait until the line gets small or just get in the line, which I'm going to stand for a while?'

Her patience grew thinner until her face filled with irritated after being ignored twice.

"Hey!" she roared.

A girl who is the same height as me—wearing a black skirt and a white blazer. She had delightful purple eyes and soft black short hair.

"Huh?" I gazed at her and gave a confused look and added, "Oh." I scratch my head.

"Ahem. Sorry for my rudeness, I'm just wondering which line I should take?"

"Any of them. All the lines would lead to the same ship."

She gave a smile, which somehow warmth my heart, and said, "Thank you!"

"Can you tell me your name?" I asked with kindness in it.

"I am Stella Hoshi E. Astrid, a part of the House of Elaris."

Ah…

The House of Elaris… A controversial noble family in Mystara Kingdom. Many rumors surrounding it and I fear that she wouldn't have a good life here. Her face has grown paler than before, like she doesn't want to talk about it.

"I'm Zayne Avner. A complete nobody."

"Don't be mean to your self. You're a good guy."

"..."

I didn't know what to say when she smiles at me and gave a compliment.

"Okay. Well, I should be going now. Bye!"

Stella taps my shoulder and waved back at me as she runs to the second line that was starting to move faster.

"Bye…" I waved back at her.

I sat on the granite floor and waited for half an hour, since I got nothing better to do than just wait till the line is. The people passed by me and stare at me as if I were a homeless man.

After twenty minutes went by, I see about 35 people left, I went into the line. The line went faster than I expected, reaching the counter in under ten minutes. I stepped forward to the admissions counter. The receptionist was a girl wearing a white suit, representing our campus glasses, and silver earrings.

"Hello! Welcome to the Fredixus admission. Please give me your student ID and I will register you in the system."

"Here."

I pulled out my student ID from my pocket when I got it from the package back at my house and showed it to her. As she took my ID and scanned it with a machine as it registered on the computer.

「Synchronizing…」

Feeling embarrassed about my rank as she took glances at me and gave back my card, allowing me to enter.

"Here you go, Mr Zayne. And also! Here is a watch. Come, put your hand on the counter and I put it for you."

The watch limits users to an online wallet, digital student ID, messages, and a map of the island.

I put my left hand on the counter, and she attached the black watch on my wrist so that the school can monitor my every motion.

"What does it do?" I inquired while I was looking at the watch in amazement.

"It is basically like a phone with parental controls. There are more features on this, but you'll need to check it for yourself. Thank you for joining us. Farewell, you may now enter!"

I proceeded inside the station, going through the high-tech scanner that can scan through everything inch by inch.

After the scan, a huge number of people surrounded me, cramping all the available space. The stores, restaurants, and souvenir stores had occupied all the spots. I wanted to buy a drink at a convenience store, but there were too many people in there, and I lost all hope of buying a drink.

There was a sign saying, 'Water bottles selling for $2.50!' Person who is selling cold water bottles next to the entrance of the ramp. I run to it, moving through the crowd, and manage to run to him.

I could feel my body getting horde by the crowd of people trying to enter the ship. Likewise, I carried myself out of the crowd and found myself at the vendor guy.

"Huff. Huff. Huff."

"Relax dude. Come, I give you a free water bottle, just head inside."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, no worries. You need it more than me. Look at how tired you are."
