It was a normal morning in Stella City. The streets were bustling, the weather was pleasant, and people were out and about enjoying their day in the major coastal metropolis. But within an instant all that changed.
Straight out of a disaster movie, a large crash happens in the middle of the city square.
Debris flies everywhere. Building collapse, countless people injured and killed within the blink of an eye. The once bustling and beautiful city square is now reduced to a chaotic, dangerous disaster zone. Those still alive begin to evacuate the area. This is a total catastrophe they're witnessing, but not too uncommon for the world as it currently is.
Events like this have been a sad fact of life for most normal people that live in the world at this point. It's been almost a century since the first generation of superhumans appeared in the world.
Their first appearance opened the floodgates for both the unbelievable and the impossible to flood the entire earth. Evolved humans, incredible futuristic technology, magic users, alien travelers, and even mythological beings have all made themselves known in this time.
It's an age of superheroes and supervillains. Whenever someone comes to use their abilities to commit vile acts against mankind, a hero comes up to stop them and make things right.
However, these conflicts can lead to widespread destruction depending on the strength of the Supers, as most commonly refer to them.
This current collision of titans that has already caused so much widespread destruction is between two mammoths of fighters this time.
In one corner sits an imposing intergalactic warrior who's arrived on earth recently seeking strong opponents. He's already killed over a dozen heroes and villains in this pursuit. He's no ordinary warrior either; he's considered the elite of the elite of his species.
He belongs to a race known as the Fangpyre; they're a nomadic, galaxy-faring tribe of giant humanoid wolves. Known for their ferocious appetite for combat and their unrelenting spirit, the Fangpyre are one of the most feared and despised species in the galaxy, given most of them don't care about the widespread destruction they cause in their pursuit of combat.
This particular Fangpyre that's currently locked in battle and that just tore through the center of Stella City goes by the name of Vox Howl. One of the most feared members of their species that's responsible for countless deaths across the cosmos in search of a worthy opponent.
Then we have his opponent he's now set his eyes on. A much beloved and celebrated superhero known across all of earth, revered for his bravery and strength. Normally he goes by the name Lucas Vanpelt, an unassuming and average-seeming forensic analyst who works for the Stella City Police Department.
However, he has an alter ego, one known far and wide to the public. In truth, Lucas Vanpelt is in fact a powerful alien who crash-landed here as a child from the planet Galdaria. He uses these powers to fight against injustice and protect the home he was raised in and loves. He has become a symbol of hope and liberation, flying around with his yellow and red spandex, cape billowing in the air. He is commonly referred to as the guardian of Stella City, but most call him by one name, Overmight.
This battle between the two started incredibly quickly. While gliding over the city using his focused super hearing, Overmight heard cries of pain coming from the edge of the city near an abandoned train station. There he arrives, seeing Vox Howl bite the head off another local hero known as Chill Blade. It's a bloody mess that catches Overnight off guard momentarily.
Within an instant Vox Howl recognizes Overmight, having seen snippets of his exploits over the short time he's been on earth via television. Overjoyed at having found one of earth's mightiest heroes who could prove a worthy foe, he springs into action full force, launching at Overmight with all his power and fury.
Thanks to the gruesome distraction, Overmight doesn't have time to register the attack and counter, so he gets tackled, which sends both of them flying through the air at ludicrous speed. This attack inevitably leads to the crash that occurred in the city center. Both men hit the ground hard, and that one tackle caused an insane amount of destruction to Stella City.
Vox Howl recovers from the crash after a moment, pushing off some rubble that had covered him after the landing. He takes a look around at the debris and crater-like state of the city area before walking forward past some dust caused by the impact. He eventually finds Overmight nearby, standing and staring at the ground while breathing slowly, with a small bit of blood drizzling over his forehead and seeping into his right eye and beard.
As he continues standing there, Vox Howl decides to approach him, laughing with a smile on his face as he begins to monologue.
"Would you look at that? Finally! Hahaha! A worthy opponent among the trash this planet has had to offer me so far. Very few have ever taken a direct attack like that from me using full power and lived to tell the tale. You should be honored, oh great Overmight, warrior of Earth. I'm sure you feel it too! The thrill of battle! Of facing someone who will challenge you! You can admit it; after all, I feel the exact same. Fighting is what makes life worth living! The only people that matter are those with power! I'm sure you would agree—"
Before Vox Howl could finish his last sentence, Overmight, with precision, speed, and force, while still looking down, quickly grabs his wrist and twists it till it snaps, causing Vox to howl in pain. Overmight's gaze then shifts towards Vox with a cold stare that would make anyone shiver.
Vox Howl then tries attacking Overmight, swiping at him with his uninjured left hand and trying to kick him. However, Overmight sees through each and every attack as he easily blocks and dodges each one. Overmight then starts attacking Vox with an unrelenting combination of strong punches and slaps, absolutely making a fool out of the wolf and beating him down to a pulp. While beating Vox down, Overmight gives a serious monologue of his own.
"You're nothing but a monster. All you care about is fighting? You don't seem to give a damn that your actions just killed possibly hundreds or more people. You're sick. What you've done is sick. Seeing what you did to Chill caught me off guard. It shook me. I wasn't prepared. But thanks to you, I will be next time. Because now I know, a moment's hesitation can lead to something like this... so thank you for helping me grow to become a better hero. A hero that won't falter in the face of a gruesome reality. But now... I think it's time you get the f**k out of my city and off my planet."
And with that last sentence, a furious Overmight puts all of his strength into one last attack, charging a fist straight at the gut of Vox Howl, sending the chaotic, battle-hungry beast flying into space from whence he came.
Overmight, having won the battle, takes a deep breath, truly absorbing what's just happened. Looking around at all the wreckage that the impact of the tackle truly caused. He blames himself internally for hesitating, for being caught off guard. But there's no time for that as he hears a voice crying from the rubble of a nearby building.
With that, he springs back into hero mode, pushing the self-doubt to the side. He decides it's not the time for that and begins doing all he can to help the injured survivors.
