I was exhausted and tired from continuous shifts. One shift is done, another shift is scheduled.
Eye bags under my eyes were sign of countless sleepless nights. I just wanted to have one day off so that I could rest.
And finally that day came.
It was 10 when I was done with my shift. I sighed as I put my phone on the table. Stretching my neck as I entered the password and with the click my locker opened.
I took my casual clothes and turned to pick my phone. I was about to shut the locked when a message popped up. I smiled seeing the message.
It was from my boyfriend, James Malik, a mixed race, half Canadian and half Pakistani. We have been dating for 3 years and last month, he proposed me.
At that time I felt like I was the happiest woman in this world. I'm so lucky to have him in my life.
I opened the message of him informing me he had returned from his work and miss me. I replied back that I missed him too. So cute.
I hadn't told him that I'm done with my shift. I want to surprise him. After sending heart emoji's, I put my phone and closed it, making my way to freshen up.
After taking shower, I was relaxed and just thought of having to spend the whole day with James made me excited.
I checked one last time if I'm not forgetting anything. I took my bag and left the locker room not before putting my hospital gown in the locker.
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear as I walked to the counter, Sabrina. She smiled at me. "Done with the shift?"
"Yeah! This week was so hectic. I almost broke my back." I replied as I opened the registry book, signing before my name that I had completed my shift.
"Eager to meet your boyfriend, hmm?" Sabrina playfully remarked, tucking her blonde hair behind. "Honestly, even I would be this excited if my boyfriend is this nice."
I chuckled watching her pout. She looked so cute like that. "Right! He's so nice and caring. I'm so lucky to have him." I smirked, teasing her.
Seeing her rolling her eyes I wanted to tease her more. "You know he recently gave me a present. Guess what it was?"
"I don't care." She said flatly, irritated. She recently broke up with her boyfriend, so everything related to relationships irked her.
"Hmm... guess?" I whined, pouting.
"I said no."
"Please~"
"No!"
"Please! Pretty please~" I made cute faces that made her disgust. She told me not to do that, otherwise she would punch me.
I burst into laughters. She was so fun to tease. "Okay! Okay! I won't do that!" I raised my hands in defeat. "But... still, try to guess."
She clicked her lips before thinking. She put a finger on her chin, lips pouting, a gesture she was thinking. "Last time it was flowers. What could be this time?"
I watched thinking. When she got no idea she ruffled her hair, frustrated. "I don't know! It's just so hard to think."
"Try to use your brain. It's so easy."
"He had given you a sedan, a trip to Thailand and Japan, a diamond ring when he proposed you, occasionally flowers and many more."
"That's right! I'm getting spoiled by him, isn't it?"
"You must have a death wish." She glared ready to throw hands at me.
When she was taking too much time, I decided to give her hint. I straightened myself as I touch my neck showing her.
"The fuck are you doing? Eww..." She made a disgust expression.
I was still tracing my neck with my fingers. I gave her look. She narrowed her eyes trying to find what I was hinting at. "Ah..."
She let out, her eyes widening as she stared at the necklace. She came closer staring at it with mouth wide apart. A bug might fly into her mouth.
"Is this..." she asked, eyes shining.
"Yeah!"
"Wow! Aren't you living your life?" She awed smiling looking dumb.
I smirked feeling proud at my boyfriend. "What I can do! He just loves me a lot."
"Lucky bitch!"
I smiled as I checked the time it's already 10:39. "It's late now. I better hurry."
Sabrina nodded as she waved me a goodbye.
"See you later, bitch." I laughed as I left the hospital. I made my way to the parking lot.
I took the keys, pressed the button. With the slight click the car was unlocked and got into the car. I put my belongings at the passenger seat and thrusted the keys into keyhole.
The car engine roared, pulled out the parking lot. I smiled thinking about James's reaction.
As I drove my eyes landed on the small bakery shop. I pulled the car in front of it.
James loved cakes. He was crazy about them. I wonder if one day he got diabetes, I would make fun of him. If I think about it, partially it was my fault. Even if I always scold him not to eat cakes or other sugary products, I still always bring him cakes when he got all pouty.
I left the bakery with a small vanilla cake and drove away.
I pulled the car in the parking lot as I got out of car. I took the things and the cake, making sure the car is unlocked. I made my way inside the apartment building and entered the elevator.
I pressed the button for third floor and elevator closed. I once looked at the cake in my hand and smiled slightly. He will be so happy.
With a ding the elevator opened and I stepped out and made my way to the apartment 301.
I smiled as I got closer to the apartment. I was about to ring the bell but chose to do otherwise. I'm surprising him, so why not give him a little jump scare.
I put the pin in the digital lock and twisting the handle, slowly and quietly opening the door. As I stepped in quietly, closing the door behind I walked inside but my smile faded quickly after seeing shoes that are definitely not mine.
As I walked further in, clothes scattered around on the floor. I gulped as negative thoughts started to appear in my mind. It felt like my worst nightmare become reality.
I bit my lips before making way to the bedroom. As I walked, a voice of woman moaning got louder.
I was breathing heavily, feeling a lump in my throat. "Ah~ baby, it feels so good."
I clenched my hands in a fist as tears started to build in my eyes. The bedroom door was slightly opened. "You like that! Fuck, you are so hot."
I heard my boyfriend. My lips trembled as my eyes landed on two naked figures. My world shattered as I saw the scene unfolding before my eyes.
My boyfriend, my love, my everything...my James was fucking a woman. He wasn't even drunk so I could think he was not in his mind.
I kept watching the scene till my heart filled with rage. Shit! This fucking bastard!
I gritted my teeth before pushing the door harshly, entering my room, making my presence known to them.
They both turned their head, eyes wide. "Lina... fuck! Why are you here?" He said getting of the bed quickly, covering his body with white sheets. He stepped closer to me but my stepped back. "Lina-"
"Don't... don't come close to me." My voice cracked. My heart throbbed seeing his condition. Marks on neck, hair messy and damped with sweat.
"Lina- I can explain-" He was cut off by the woman he was fucking. "Who the fuck is she?"
James turned to her. "Ah~ she's-"
"I'm his girlfriend... now ex." I said harshly. James was taken back.
"Lina, listen to me! That's not what you think. I was not in my right mind." He started but my mind was blank.
"Hey! You fucker had a girlfriend?" She shouted, must have no ideas of this bastard's antics. "Huh? Answer me asshole."
"Shut up, will you?" James pushed her away and came closer to me trying to grab me.
Smack! I slapped him. He was shocked as he turned to me. Tears were falling from eyes. "You... why? WHY?" I shouted.
"No! Lina-"
"Get out!"
"Lina-"
"I SAID GET OUT!" I shouted. "You too! Not of you get out." I throw clothes at them and kicked them out. James kept struggling and was trying to explain himself. But I had no intention to listen to him.
"Never come back here, fucker." I slammed the door shut at his face. My breathing was ragged. I locked the door, after all it was my apartment.
I heard the woman screaming at James. But i didn't care.
I crouched down as I cried out my heart. I really loved him. Why would he do that? Why? Wasn't I good enough.
I sobbed feeling worthless. He was always so kind and caring. If his feelings were changed, he could have told me. Why did he have to hurt me like this?
My heart... it hurts. I hurts so bad that I don't know what to do anymore. I loved him so much. He literally proposed me last month and now he did this. How could he?
That night I cried till I was so exhausted that I slept at the doorway. That night I promised myself that I will never love anyone again.
