Chapter 1 - The face of justice

John Mark was sitting behind his antique wooden desk, on the fourth floor of the glitter law firm in the city centre. Case papers are neatly arranged in front of him, and the legal books are strictly lined up on the shelves. He was not just a lawyer, but a symbol of justice in the eyes of people.

His quiet voice in court was enough to reverse the balance of cases, and his sharp gaze made the judges listen to every word he said.

That morning, he put on his usual black suit, carefully held his tie, and took a quick look in the mirror. He didn't see just a man, but an invincible lawyer. He walked out of his office towards the courtroom, where a group of people who put their trust in his words awaited him.

He entered the hall with steady steps. His client, a man accused of theft, was sitting on the wooden bench, anxiously awaiting.

John stood up and said confidently before the jury:

– "Ladies and gentlemen... Justice is not just punishing those who think they are guilty, but the search for the truth, even if it is hidden behind the fog."

His words were like a sharp sword that split the air, so the attendees began to whisper with fascination. Indeed, the session ended with the innocence of his client, so that John came out carrying the waves of admiration and

The next day, John woke up to the announcer's voice on the small TV in his room:

"Breaking news... The body of a man was found in one of the alleys, brutally killed. The police have not yet revealed the identity of the killer."

John froze for a moment, then sat on the edge of the bed staring at the screen. The photo shown on television was suspiciously familiar: the man killed was no stranger... He was one of the witnesses who stood against him in court yesterday.

The hair of his heart is falling in his chest. Was it just a coincidence? Or is there a hidden hand behind it?

He tried to get the idea out of his head, but he couldn't. Throughout the day he remembered the judge's words, the looks of the audience, and even the voice of his client whispering: "You saved my life, Mr. John."

But now... there is blood on the ground, and an innocent man – or maybe guilty – is over
