Sunny's POV
"Stop!" Sunny shouted, throwing himself between Luna and her grandmother. His golden magic blazed to life, creating a protective shield around his friends. "Don't you dare hurt her!"
Grandma Willow's red eyes softened for just a moment, and Sunny saw something that shocked him - she was crying.
"Oh, my dear boy," she whispered, lowering the crystal key slightly. "You think I want to hurt Luna? You think any of this has been easy for me?"
"Then why are you doing it?" Luna sobbed from behind Sunny's shield. "Why are you helping the people who took our parents?"
Grandma Willow's shoulders shook as more tears fell down her wrinkled cheeks. "Because three years ago, the Council of Void came to me with a choice that no grandmother should ever have to make."
Sunny felt his protective magic waver as confusion filled his mind. Through their bond, he could sense Luna's pain and bewilderment mixing with his own.
