Luna's POV
Luna's shadow magic shot toward Sunny like a spear of pure darkness.
But just as the deadly spell was about to hit him, Luna saw something that made her heart stop. A single tear rolled down Sunny's cheek as he prepared to defend himself.
That tear looked exactly like the ones she'd seen in her dreams for three years - the dreams that had started long before any Council plot could have existed.
"Wait," Luna gasped, her magic flickering and missing Sunny by inches.
Sunny's golden fire blazed toward her, but he saw the confusion in her silver eyes. Those were the same eyes that had looked at him with such wonder during their first kiss. The same eyes that had filled with joy when they created their first purple magic together.
His fire veered away at the last second, scorching the wall instead of Luna.
"Something's wrong," Sunny said, lowering his hands. "Those memories we saw... they felt too perfect. Too detailed."
