Chapter 1 - Chapter I: The Fighter For Knowledge

Maxine Walters sat in her desk, in her neatly arranged room, sipping on a cup of hot coffee, the sound of jazz music echoing from her mobile phone. Her room was painted in bright colors, her skin being the odd one out of everything, attaining a brownish nature, her eyes an ember light with a pair of glasses enhancing her sight, a gold, bull nose ring staying still despite every motion she made.

Apart from all these features that made her look alien, she was gifted with a beauty that made her uniqueness far better. Facing the notebook on the desk, she scribbled down words, it could be a chance that this was some sort of diary but she wasn't the type of college student to keep diaries, she never had any boy she dreamed of, any group of girls she hoped to follow at school or any professor she hoped not to cross and to cross as well.

She was a simple individual, the type that dislike stress and welcomed new knowledge, not the type of knowledge to get her good grades and a high GPA score, that knowledge wasn't important. What was more important was a knowledge that would change the world, the goal every single being left in the planet had, the goal not to only change but to reverse the cause of a new reality.

Everybody wished for such knowledge, but Maxine craved that knowledge, because there was never a GPA score to achieve, a boy she looked for, a group she hoped to join.

No—

It never even existed to begin with, even if she looked for it, she wouldn't get it. Some may ask, Why? Why is that so? Why can she not achieve such if she wanted to? Like I had mentioned, it never existed, the real question many should've asked was: How does these things not exist?

Look at Maxine's room, this has been the only place we have seen so far, no other location has been called. This is so because, the world has been fractured, twisted into something that we can never call home any more. The planet has been plagued, transformed into something that we can never recognize.

In the nineteenth year of Maxine's birth, twelve years from this present timeline, the great fall of man had begun, the time for humanity to go extinct had begun and soon, the world was going to change. This young woman had seen it before, from the time of her birth down to her adult years.

To be frank, Maxine Walters was never entering college, she had already finished her journey in this life, now she was given a new goal to follow. One might say that she wasn't happy, but that was a lie, a facade to make fools think that her life was worthless.

Every single experiment she conducted, every report she wrote down, it filled her with pleasure, a type of pleasure that she couldn't imagine. Seeing her seriously scribble down words with an expression so daring would fool you, in her thoughts, she felt true pleasure, it could either be sexual or immense joy had filled her to the brim.

So if you ask the wise man, What's going on right now? Why all this information? Everything in this room is a lie. Maxine never felt anger or hatred, the words she scribbled down were merely morse codes created by high frequency waves, this room was never neat, she only sat on the floor at the corner of a room covered in moss after years of neglect. Beside her is a corpse, it's jaw wide open, eyes hollow with nothing but darkness inside as insects crawl out, the body of this individual is unrecognizable as it had undergone its final stages of decomposition.

Now look at you, seeing the words scribble down as you start to question, What on earth have I gazed on? I have no answer for that, this is merely something you must figure out on your own. Maxine Walters follows her own path, she is a strong and independent female who derives joy from knowledge.

Payment of taxes and bills does not define her independency, it never does for anybody, but the sheer will and determination she possesses makes it so. Even after all this, she never complains, she only does so through actions.

She is quiet, cold and calculative. A wise person won't call her a WOMAN, though she is, she is not entirely.

That word has been rendered useless as hardships come for anybody, she is HUMAN. A human who will not back down, no matter the circumstances, a human who craves knowledge and can be very selfish with it.

Knowledge could be considered a curse, a burden which she/we must carry but she/we does/do not care. If she has to place her hands in the flames and seer the flesh just to gain a piece of knowledge, she will do so and that is what makes her the HUMAN that she is.

Seeing that her goal had been completed, she had taken a step outside, the fresh air of the post apocalyptic setting being breathed into her nostrils, the cold, dry air that lingered from dead bodies. Maxine looked forward, gazing at the buildings that had been reduced to ruins, the roads turned into wafers mashed by humans feet's.

Ever since the fall of man, the world had turned into something else, food and water had turned to something limited, the world had become lawless and broken. The goal of every single being was to survive.

The wise man lied to you again, didn't he? Knowledge wasn't the goal for every person, but survival was. Maxine only attained that goal for herseelf, being a former scientist that took her stand against the Sora Project, an operation that would befall them.

"One cannot simply kill God," she once said, those were the words that she told them, the words she thought would be her last, but here she stood now.

It turned out she was right, but that didn't matter as there was no one to prove her theory was on the leading side. Taking a step into the concrete path, she felt a wave of pleasure hitting her, the fall of man had cursed her, thus the reason for her bearing the eyes of intellect, obtaining an orange hue.

Now, not only the world was fractured but her vision was, enabling her to see 20% of the changes in the universe, a curse she saw as power.

Opening the metal door of her fueled-up sedan and handling its wheels, she drove into the distance, her reckless movements making seem like she had no location but indeed there were many options and it was quite hard to choose on her part.

That is it for today, the start of a new journey has begun, the start of a new purpose in the life of a wise individual. Looking back, the wise man can hope that one had learn something purposeful, something that would aid one in in their journey.

Don't let lies cloud one's mind, don't follow the world and don't let the world follow as well. Loneliness is the true drug that rids one of the distraction that the world offers.

The wise man closes his book, ending the story, "It has finally come to an end, hasn't it?" he says with a heavy tone.
