Chapter 1 - Rebirth

Isaac Elson felt himself float aimlessly in the vast empty void that surrounded him. The world around him seemed endless, as if he were floating in space but with no sun or star.

His glazed black colored eyes gazed at the emptiness around him as an expression of understanding dawned upon him.

He had died.

As someone who had lived an extremely ordinary and background character like life, he had also died the death of a background character. Arriving at the wrong place at the wrong time. And dying for a reason that had absolutely nothing to do with him.

Earth had undergone massive evolutional leaps currently. Things like anti-grav cars, floating buildings and manned Mechas were now the norm and humans on the planet had cemented their positions as the apex predators of the world.

That morning had been an ordinary day to him. An ordinary ride to his workplace, where he walked as a technician, when the side of the drive way burst into flames. The cause of the destruction were two Mecha owners battling it out in the sky.

Isaac didn't have the liberty to witness more of the incident. Why?

Because he had died within the first few seconds of their arrival.

He didn't blame them. He couldn't blame them because they wouldn't have even noticed that one of their stray plasma bullets had torn through his chest and killed him the moment they began their brawl. He couldn't blame them that he had chosen to embark the life of an ordinary background character in his world.

Regret finally filled Isaac as he balled his fists. "Goddammit! If only! If only I were given a second chance! I would make sure I never lived such a pitiful life such as that!"

"Granted."

Isaac's eyes widened as he gazed upward, towards the source of the voice he had just heard. It was then he noticed the existence of something he could only called a Being.

The Being stood with an aloof stance amid the wide expanse of the empty void. Its body seemed to scream a certain type of mystery that commanded one to never take their eyes off it. And its face was more peculiar. Isaac could have sworn to have memorized its features yet it would seem that he had forgotten the memory of him looking at the face entirely, leaving him in a loop of trying to stare at the Being. And he had a hunch that the endless void around him was the product of the unique existence before him.

Fortunately or Unfortunately, Isaac's peculiar and dazed state ended as a bright light swallowed him up.

Isaac's eyes opened abruptly to gaze upon his new environment's features. Or the lack thereof. It was dark, completely dark. Even in the previous Void, if he focused hard enough he could notice waves that moved ever so slightly. But here, it was completely dark. 'Where the hell am I?'

He attempted to move his body but found out that he wasn't able to move an inch within the darkness. He sighed and could only waited for his true end to arrive. And wait, he did.

In the darkness, he waited for an unbelievably long time. He was so bored, he even attempted to count the seconds like an anime character from the early times of Earth and he had to admit, that task was hard as fuck. He had lost track after the first week of counting. From time to time, he would hear weird sounds but he merely smile sadly as he assumed he was slowly losing his sanity within the eternal darkness.

In the end, Isaac could only spend the rest of his lonely passage in this dark world fantasizing how he would die once this peace (boring) period would end.

After what he assumed was a long time he finally realized that he could finally move his limbs. Excitement filled Isaac's mind for the first in a long time as he controlled his limbs. He soon found out that it was incredibly hard for him to move, like he was submerged deep underwater. His mind raced trying to find out about his current situation but, in the end, could not come up with anything.

Sighing ruefully, he could only hope to adapt to the painfully slow movement of his body. He didn't know how long it took but he could finally move at a somewhat faster speed. And the first thing he did was to prod about in the darkness around.

But his discovery made him sweat bullets.

Isaac found out that there were flexible walls all around him. And feeling the fleshy cord like thing attached to his navel, his mind almost blew up in shock. He was a baby! He was a baby still within his mother's womb! Prodding further, he stretched out his hands and pushed into the wall before him.

Sure enough, he felt a slight sensation of what he could describe as a caress. Probably from his current mother.

Isaac then retracted his hands as he contemplated his situation. It was then he realized that while in the endless and expansive Void, the Being he had never managed to gaze at had uttered the word "Granted" after his string of thoughts.

He had been reincarnated! He had indeed been given a second chance!

As he thought of this, determination appeared within his conscience. He promised to himself that he would never live a life as useless as his past. He would never live such an insignificant life in this newly granted one. Series of plans were generated in his mind as he awaited the day of his birth.

And that day arrived very quickly.

Soon a ray of light pierced through the darkness that surrounded him, and the technician did not hesitate to move towards its source which proved to be quite the challenge before a pair of hands grabbed unto him and pulled him out of the darkness.

'Fuck!' He cursed as the bright light of the outside world blinded him. Thankfully, his thoughts could not be transformed into coherent speech as only a simple "Ah" left his lips. Still, he quickly adapted to the light and opened his eyes to reveal its weird amethyst color that displayed curiosity towards his new life. 'I've arrived!'
