Chapter 1 - The Rift in Reality

Leonardo Veiltrix stepped into his little apartment late at night and quietly pulled off his coat, hanging it up on the trench. He smiled warmly, observing his small condo. The table was pushed towards the end of the wall, accompanied by a simple bed and a short bookshelf.

The floorboard creaked under his feet as Leo strides towards his roller chair. He plucked down on it and spun towards the biggest desk which had his computer system. He turned the system on and clicked on the keyboard.

It works.

And he typed on it, slowly mumbling to himself. Leo had always been like this— alone, nerdy. He had no family, no one to think about and no one to care about.

He grew up in an orphanage home and had the privilege to get access to some cash. At first, he had participated in playing video games just to earn some money and when he successfully laid his hands on the money, he'd secure himself a comfortable apartment and he had quickly moved out of the Orphanage home.

As the only survivor of his family and bearer of the 'Veiltrix' surname, he had to make a name for himself, get a girlfriend, get married and give birth to children— but instead, he isolated himself. Everyday, he works himself out and returns late at night. Then, he would be buried in his books; not just any kind of books but, alien space and science fiction kind of books.

These books actually give him a novel experience, one that he'd wish to have over and over again.

There is this one book he's been reading about aliens, space, apocalypse and science fiction. The novel was heart breaking, plus he had already come to a conclusion, only to realize that the MC didn't lead the life he was supposed to live.

Instead of pursuing power and wealth, he chased after love and it was that same woman that became his own nemesis. Till now, Leo's been searching online to see if there'd be like a series following this book.

But then, Leo's expression changed.

On the screen of his computer system, it shows that the Book titled; The Repercussions of Love has no series following it, which means that—it is the only book.

Worst still, the author is also named, Unknown_Pen, without any source of information—almost as if the book had been conjured up out of nothingness by a witch's power.

Leo stood up from the chair and stroll down towards the bookshelf. His hands slowly sift through different books until his hands touch a particular one.

He slowly pulled it out and stared at the hardcover.

Sitting comfortably on his cheap but modest bed, he turned the page open and stared at the picture of a man— The one known as the overlord of the galaxy.

The villain that had ruled everything, the one who had won in the end, destroying realms, shattering worlds and stars. Leo's heart seemed to beat loudly.

"Did he really win?"

Leo remembered that every action that the MC took was the major problem in the novel and the decisions he took were all because of that woman— the one that he loved.

During work today, Leo had been absent minded because of this book, hoping to find a second sequel online, however there is none, plus he did not even know how the book had appeared.

"It ought to have come out of somewhere."

Then, his thoughts shifted.

"Wait, did the author die before he could produce a second squeal?"

A moment later, his thoughts changed yet again. "I could rewrite this book and continue it's squeal. Maybe I can do that—"

He did not see the lamp stand falling down from the window pane and landing smack on his hands.

The book he held dropped down to the floor in a loud "thud", opening to the middle page.

Leo hurriedly picked the broken lamp stand and whined. He should have moved the lamp away first, now he had to budget for a new one.

Leo stood up from the bed just to dispose of the already damaged lamp stand, not knowing that the book he had unknowingly thrown to the floor was already glowing a bright red color. This red çolor brought to life a strange runic array, which manifested from it.

When Leo returned, he froze.

The runes transmitted from the book were eerily familiar.

Then his eyes widened.

In the book he's read, these runes were called an interdimensional array— one that pulls one in against their will. Leo suddenly realized something, and that is; in the next few seconds, a powerful force would fill the room.

Leo immediately turned, his next course of action was running away. It has never been heard that something from a book was being brought to reality— only now is Leo experiencing such an anomaly.

Leo picked his phone, picked his coat. He tried to take his computer system, but decided to abandon it—

He turned to leave only to see the faint appearance of a rift. It manifested in-between his massive cupboard, instantly severing it into two halves. Leo's lips trembled as the air pulsed with wild energy. And then— the force.

The energy impacted on the surrounding void and Leo couldn't cømpletely escape from the suction force. He saw his shelf disappear into the rift and many more of his belongings. He was the last so it was difficult to ignore the pulling force so he was sucked in.

The moment Leo disappeared, the rift ceased to exist, leaving an already damaged room and a book behind.
