Desert sea of nirales
The light from the 2nd moon illuminates the vast seemingly endless expanse of sand. Dragging herself with her arms, crawling inch by inch, Maya struggles to keep moving as her pursuers were catching up.
Shit! Am I really dying here? If only I didn't have to sacrifice my legs to kill that dumb lizard, I'm almost there, just a few more kilometers and I'll be ou—
A shadow stretched across the sand right Infront of her. A pair of boots slowly approached, a wace of despair washed over her as she was definitely in no condition to defend herself. She didn't dare look up as she was certain anyone that could walk so leaisurely on a place like this would have no problem killing her in her current state
Then he spoke, calm and jovial, almost like he was commenting on the weather
"At this rate you'll certainly die"
Maya strains her neck a bit, looking up at the man now Infront of her,he has an annoying smile on his face that would make anyone feel the urge to punch him, his clothes were too clean for someone hundreds of kilometers into the desert, in fact his shoes were brand new not a speck of dust on them whatsoever, it was unreasonable
She pulls her mind back to reality and asks "are you going to kill me now?"
"Of course not, why would you even say something like that" he said brightly, flicking his wrist in a cheerful but dismissive wave. "How about you tell me how you ended up like this?"
She stared at him, wide-eyed. Is he insane? He clearly knows I'm on the verge of collapse and I don't have time
She let's out a sigh and says "you should go they're almost here."
Acting like he didn't hear what she just said, he continues "You look like you're in a lot of pain, maybe that's why you can't understand what I'm saying" he pauses for a second and continues "Okay you can sit down now."
Maya frowned— her view had changed almost instantly, she was now sitting down in the sand with a perfectly healed body
Her heart stuttered. "What did you —?"
"Now that the pain is gone," he continued, with the same annoying smile, "you can share your story with me."
She was about to go on again about how her pursuers were catching up when she noticed the silence and stillness in the air, no even the air and dust particles had stopped completely
The world had stopped completely
Time no longer moved
She noticed her heartbeat has stopped too and she couldn't move any part of her body either. As she's still busy trying to process what's going on a voice resounds in her head
"Don't worry about your pursuers I've made sure nothing can move for now, as for why you can't move either, that's because you can't handle the backlash. Imagine your heart suddenly beat a thousand times in an instant then went back to normal , you would die instantly from the insane blood pressure. Although I could easily fix that flaw it's just more interesting this way"
Maya suddenly realizes that the reason he transmitted his voice directly into her head was because her senses had been stopped too
It seems my sense of sight wasn't stopped like the others
"Anyway don't waste any time just get to the point and tell me your story " his expression suddenly turns serious for the first time since he appeared
From his expression Maya could tell he was serious or atleast he seemed to be, she decided to just go along with his requests, it's not like she had a choice anyway
My name is Maya, I was born as a slave to dragons in this world, before my mom's death she told me of a world without dragons, a world where humans weren't just slaves and were free to live as they wanted. My goal was to reach that world, after a decade of training myself in secret , I finally saw a chance, in the archives of the emperors castle I found an artifact that enhanced my physical abilities till I could match a single dragon in combat then I ran but those lizards wouldn't let me go , they chased me all the way out here 4 of them I managed to kill one and that's how I ended up in that broken state.
"Hmm, okay, good story I've granted you an ability and slightly increased your physicality, once I release the time stop your survival will be up to you."
He leans back slightly, resting his back on empty space "I'll allow you a single question after that I'll dispel my ability."
Maya is speechless as she just took in a lot of info
Wait... a new ability?
"Is that your question" he asks with a slight look of disappointment
She suddenly realizes that was a question _no no that's not it_
She wanted to ask what her new ability was, why he was doing this –for what reason would he help her to this extent?
A question instinctively materializes in her head _who are you_
The usual smile appears on his face once more
"Avaris" he said lightly. "But you may also address me as God."
Her lips parted—shock freezing her more than the stillness around her. Countless questions arose in her mind but just as she was about to ask, she felt the desert breeze blowing
Time moved once more and the mysterious man had vanished only leaving her with a vague phrase
"1 or 0."
"What the fuck does he mean— 'one' or 'zero'?" she muttered, hands tightening into fists
A fierce echoing roar penetrated the air, maya immediately calmed her mind and readied herself for battle. A few seconds later three lesser dragons each at least 10 meters in length and 2 meters in height
came into her view. The three of them took human form almost simultaneously, the guy in the center who seemed to be the leader of the group said to the others
"It stole the artifact under our watch if we can't kill it here, we will surely be executed."
Maya was completely uninterested in what they had to say, instead she showed an expression of immense curiosity each of them had a number 1 on their souls, she didn't know how she knew it was their souls, she guessed it must have come with the ability.
The dragons began their attack their plan was simple, two of them will engage her in a fight and if she tries to escape the third can easily block her path.
Two of them rapidly approached easily closing the distance instantly, their movements were lightning fast, hacking at her with their claws. She rolled to the side; a huge crater had appeared where she was standing before. Even though the unknown artifact she stole enhanced her physicality, she would still be severely injured if she takes that attack head on luckily, she had the advantage in terms of speed.
The two dragons kept raining a barrage of blows at her, hacking at rising speeds and precision. Maya was still somehow able to dodge taking immense damage but none that was life threatening.
Maya managed to give some distance for a second, then they rushed at her again. Strangely, this time she didn't defend herself, she just waited for them. The third dragon sensing something off screamed
"Wait don't attack it" but it was too late, they didn't stop or rather they didn't want to
The instant the claws of the two dragons made contact with her skin, Maya's lips parted and curled into a smile, time seemed to have slowed down for her
"ZERO"
An eerie silence enveloped the area but it was soon broken by the terrified shriek of the third dragon. He had seen it very clearly the moment his two comrades touched her skin they died even though she didn't even move a finger
"You— what did you do?"
After a few seconds Maya replied with a ecstatic grin on her face
"Polarity Reset."
