Synopsis
Harry Potter’s fourth year at Hogwarts ends with a bang—and not in the fun, magical kind of way. Instead, he’s dragged into a Ministry of Magic trial for the heinous crime of not letting himself or a Muggle get murdered by dementors. As if that’s not bad enough, his so-called friends? Nowhere to be found. Some allies they turned out to be. But if the Ministry thinks Harry’s going to roll over and take it, they’ve got another thing coming. Fed up with the nonsense, Harry decides it’s time to ditch the drama, reclaim his life, and show the wizarding world what he’s really made of. He’s got a plan—a brilliant, bold, maybe slightly bonkers plan—and it starts with walking away from the lot of them. Watch out, wizarding world—this Harry Potter isn’t holding back anymore!

Chapter 1 - A Warrior’s Worth

"The Death Eaters at my house – let me ask you: what do you think would have happened to me and my family if you had not been there? Who would have died if not for your intervention? Are you going to blame the soldiers that killed the Death Eaters at Scotton, Gandy and Goathland? " "No! They were protecting unprepared and unarmed citizens," he replied. "Why is that different from what you did? Why is that different from Christ Church? Why is it different from any other of your encounters? Do you remember what you told Ron at my house? Is that not true anymore?" "I do remember" Evan replied with tears trailing down his cheeks, "and it's still true".

"So, based on everything we just talked about, you cannot equate your actions to those of Voldemort's or the Death Eaters, " Hermione said. "If you can't equate your actions to theirs, how can you equate your punishment?" she asked. "But…."

"If I may." Ragnock intervened. "You, your soldiers, my goblins – you/we….we are all warriors. We do battle. Some are wounded. Some die. Is it not HOW we do battle, that counts? Is it not WHY we do battle, that counts. Is it not WHO we do battle with that counts? Do we battle with honor? Or, do we battle as cowards? We are warriors, Mr. Potter. Even now, YOU are a warrior. If you were NOT an honorable warrior, you would not be questioning yourself. THAT is why you chose to punish yourself. Your affliction is self-imposed. Your eyesight, and most likely your magic. Mr. Potter, I would like to do one more test, if you are willing," asked the Director. "Yes, of course" Evan replied.

"Typically, we do not allow the use of wands or the performance of wizard magic in Gringotts. Although I know you cannot see, I would like to fix a blindfold over your eyes." Evan nodded. Two Goblins entered the room. One of them, a Healer, approached Evan and covered his eyes with the blindfold. "Mr. Potter. Reach out our hand." Evan did. "I have placed two marbles in your hand. Please focus on them – they are special marbles, much like a wand. Focus on the marbles."

Evan relaxed his mind and focused on Haragei. He remembered his early exercises in wandless magic. He remembered watching the first movie of Star Wars, of the need for intent behind his magic. He remembered the first time he lit his wand wandlessly; of the times he practiced with his own pebbles, moving them over his hand and around his ankle. He remembered the many times he used wandless magic, pushing his intent into his magic. He remembered turning people and things to twigs; applying expansion and reduction charms, transforming into his Birdy form, and much more. He decided to start with the basics – have the marbles hover over his hand. He focused his intent, pictured it in his minds eye, and tried to will the marbles to rise above his outstretched hand and just hover there.

While Evan was meditating, the rest of the occupants were struck silent. Initially, the marbles just sat there in Evan's hand. Then they began to glow very subtly; then they levitated a little and slowly rotated around his hand, rotating more quickly with each revolution; then they turned to twigs and were restored to marbles, then grew and shrunk; morphing faster and faster from transformation to transformation, more smoothly each time; culminating with two final transformations: Evan himself morphed into his Birdy form, and then a ball of fire appeared to consume him. From within this fire, a majestic and fierce phoenix stood, wings outstretched. A quiet 'poof' was heard and Evan was himself. Standing beside him were his glowing but solid guardians: the Basilisk and the Griffin His magic was back!
