Chapter 37 - Chapter Thirty-Six: Two Sides of a Vise (짓눌린 두 사람)

Lee Ji-seo's POV (Point Of View)

"Chaeyoung, hold on!" I said, out of breath as I tried reaching Chaeyoung. She stopped running and turned to me.

Ha-ri stopped next to me, breathless. "How can... Why are you so fast?" Ha-ri said in between breaths.

"Oh, sorry," Chaeyoung said nervously. We stood upright and walked to her. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked with concern.

"Of course, she isn't Ji-seo," Ha-ri said, nudging my side with her elbow, "Hey, do you need me to beat Arin up?" Ha-ri suggested, wiggling her eyebrows. Chaeyoung smiled softly, "No, you don't need to do that."

"I'm here if you change your mind," Ha-ri said, feeling down that Chaeyoung did not accept her offer. "Don't mind, Arin. She's just..." Chaeyoung trailed off, looking for the perfect adjective to describe her ex-friend.

"Pathetic?" "Bitchy?" Ha-ri and I listed out adjectives that suited Arin's character. Chaeyoung giggled, "No, she's not any on that... Okay, maybe she is-" "Maybe?" Ha-ri said, cutting her off.

"Yeah, you're right. She's bitchy, but I don't think she's pathetic," Chaeyoung said, then let out a sigh. "What makes you think that? Obviously, she's pathetic. I mean, if anyone has the time and effort to make other people's lives miserable, then they are pathetic." I said, folding my arms.

Chaeyoung stayed silent, pondering my words. She sighed, "Yeah, you're right. I don't know why she hasn't changed." "Someone like her can't change, even if she tries," Ha-ri added.

"I wonder what she's going to do now. I was the only one she had, now she'll be left alone," Chaeyoung said, feeling down. "Good, so maybe she'll realise what she has lost and probably change for the better," I said.

Chaeyoung nodded her head. We headed to the girls' locker room to change. Fortunately, we didn't see Arin. We went to the cafeteria after changing, and Chaeyoung said she wanted to do something, so we let her go.

"Do you think she's going to look for Arin?" Ha-ri asked, staring at Chaeyoung, who was walking away. I stayed silent, watching Chaeyoung walk away.

Third Person's POV (Point Of View)

Chaeyoung knocked on a door. "Who's it?" A voice asked from inside. "It's Chaeyoung," Chaeyoung said nervously. A few seconds later, the door opened to reveal Min-ho. "Hey," He said, before stepping aside to let her in.

Chaeyoung walked in and sat down on the couch. Min-ho walked to the mini fridge, removed two cans of soda, and walked back to Chaeyoung. "Take this," he said, offering her a can of soda.

She took it with both her hands and said a quick thank you. He sat on the couch, opened his can of soda, and took a sip from it.

"I haven't had a visitor here before, so what makes you the first person here?" Min-ho said. He stared at her cheek, still reddened from the slap, his jaw hardening at the sight.

"I was thinking about what you said to Arin earlier, about you calling off the engagement," Chaeyoung started nervously, clutching the can in her hand. Min-ho lifted his can to her cheek, causing Chaeyoung to jump up in fright.

"It's for your cheek," he said, removing the can from her cheek, then gave a look saying 'Can I?' Chaeyoung nodded in approval, and Min-ho placed the cold can back on her cheek. "So what happened? You don't want me to call it off?" He said, staring at the can that he placed on her cheek.

"No-" "Why?" He said, cutting her off. "I did tell her that if she messed up on more time, I'm calling it off, no matter what happens, and not even an hour later, she did this to you. Aren't you guys friends?" He said, removing the can from her cheek and scanning the area.

Satisfied with the way the cold object helped, he lifted the can to his lips and took a sip. "Yes, but she just did that because she is very competitive. I hope you understand." Chaeyoung said nervously.

Min-ho stayed silent, then took the can from her hands, opened it, and handed it back to her. "Yes, but you're her friend. Nothing should have made her slap you, and I think she did that because you are too forgiving. You'll forgive her, then move on, forgetting how she treated you," he said, trying so hard to stay calm.

"I'm not going to keep being friends with her," Chaeyoung said, staring ahead in anger. "You're not going to be friends with her anymore, so why are you here then? Aren't you here to tell me to give Arin one more chance?" Min-ho said, looking at Chaeyoung, wondering why someone who got hurt is still trying to look out for someone ungrateful like Arin.

"Take it as my depart gift to her. Let this be the last time I'm looking out for her," Chaeyoung said, looking at the can in her hands before taking a sip.

Min-ho stared at her actions and let out a sigh. "So that's your excuse. Okay, I'll listen to your request." Chaeyoung turned to him in shock, "Really? Oh, thank you so much, Min-ho," She said with excitement.

"Take care of yourself. If you need someone to rant to, then you can come here, or if you want to avoid Arin, then you can come here," Min-ho said. 'It's not like I even have friends to begin with, and I get lonely sometimes.' He said to himself inwardly.

"I would love to, but I can't risk Arin seeing me with you. I'll be dead if she even finds out I came here. You know she hasn't even stepped into your lounge before, and I don't know where I got the courage to come here," Chaeyoung said with a nervous laugh.

Min-ho nodded, "That's because you're a good friend. Okay then, you can hang with Ji-seo and Ha-ri, I'm sure they would be delighted to have you in their friend group."

"That might be true, but I don't think Arin would be happy with that decision," Chaeyoung said, shaking her head.

"Hey, how about you start doing things for yourself instead of caring about what Arin thinks," Min-ho said. Chaeyoung nodded in approval and stood up from the couch, "Thanks for your time, Min-ho," she said with a smile before bowing.

She left the lounge, and Min-ho stared at the door and let out a sigh, "Maybe my brother was right, I seriously need friends."
