Chapter 1 - The Start

"Junjun, what do you think is behind these gigantic doors?"

Jen asked me staring and touching the doors with his right tiny hand then looks at me tilting his head three hundred sixty degree's.

Adults always say, behind these doors is a paradise.

A place where you can do everything you wanted and enjoy to your heart's content, before I could answer Jen, a very loud voice was heard.

"Hey brats! out of the way! The chosens are coming!"

We ran through which most people are staying, the sideways, people started cheering, some are emotional.

One thing that really caught my attention was a mother and a daughter.

The mother's tears bursted as if she was facing the grave of her own daughter.

Before the mother could hug her daughter, a skinny tall with long eye lashes guy yelled.

"Please non chosens, go to the sideways!"

The mother quickly grabbed her daughter's left arm and pulled her into a tight hug. She then slowly pulls away from the hug and smiled at her daughter, reassuring her that everything will be alright.

After that, she slowly backs away from her daughter and stood beside me and Jen with a bitter sweet smile.

"Miss, why are you crying?"

Jen asked insensitively the poor mother which made my body jolt and eyes widen from his stupid question out of nowhere.

"Jen, why are you-"

"It's okay, it's no big deal."

I was cutted off, then she told us the reason why.

At first she was nervous, her legs and fingers was obviously shaking. She then spoke.

"Elianor is the only family member I had."

Both Jen and me went silent.

"She was lucky that she got picked to stay in the paradise. However I have mixed emotions."

She smiled bitterly and then continued.

"I was happy that she'll stay in a place where she can do everything she wanted but, sad at the same time since we're going to part ways."

"How old is she miss?" Jen asked again.

"She is around your age, eight."

I stood up in front of the mother and said.

"Don't worry! Your daughter will be alright!"

She then let out a small chuckle and shakes her head.

"Kids these days are sure positive."

The skinny tall with long eye lashes guy announced that the doors are opening which made everyone looked at the door.

The door slowly moved with a low sound of creak.

Everyone started yelling like congratulations! and some other random unfamiliar words.

The noise was getting more loud and loud as the door slowly opens.

"First of all, congratulations to the seventy five chosens, you may now enter!" the announcer effervescently yelled.

The chosen's eagerly ran near the doors and enters.

The doors then shuts closed with a loud sound of thud as people started walking away continuing to mind their own business.

They choose seventy five people every year. Just one call, and people's lives will greatly change but, what if one of your closest friends or family member got chosen?

One year later, it was a week before the departure of chosens, both me and Jen we're lying on the ground facing the cyan bluish sky, near the big oak tree of the river side. He then called my name.

Before he could let out another word from his mouth, a cold wind goes in different directions which sent our short hair flying. The wind made it more dramatic, it was like we're in a Korean confession scene that will surely change both of the characters lives. While I was busy fixing my hair, he then spoke hesitantly.

"R-Ramz."

My heart skipped a beat hearing him for the first time calling my real name, in that time I know how serious things would be so I listened.

"I-I am s-sorry..."

"What are you apologizing for?" I asked him nervously.

"I"

"You what?"

"I got chosen."

Hearing those words frozed me, it was the less I expected. I was speechless, all I could think of was the mother and the daughter named Elianor from a year ago. I felt the same emotions as her mother, should I be happy or sad? I thought depressingly.

"D-Don't cry." He said with tears sliding down to his chin.

"You're the one who's filled with tears here!" I instantly replied.

At first I was worried, I wasn't ready to let him go, I was selfish. The deeper I think the deeper the needles goes from my heart, it was painful, he was the first person to approached me with no negative intensions. He was the only friend I had but rather than crying, I pretended to be happy.

"You're leaving next week right?"

"Mhmn" he answered as he nods.

What are you crying for? That's all I could think of, Jen has lots of friends, he's energetic, kind, and a crybaby, while I'm the opposite. He was always better than me in every way, I ignored my thoughts and just smiled like nothing happened.

"Then let's play until the day of your departure, okay?"

"Okay..."

We've spent a lot of time together playing and doing some random things that we wanted to do before. The reason why I was so desperate on spending my time with him is because of the estimated percentage that we'll never ever meet again.

You only got 0.001% chance of getting chosen, if it's a battle of luck then an unfortunate person like me has around negative one percent, right father?

"It's your fault that your grandma died!" my father yelled at me.

"Honey, you have to calm down." My mother said while holding my father's left arm.

"No! If it wasn't for this gloomy brat, then my mother would still be here!"

"He's an unfortunate brat!"

What's happening? Is mother and father fighting? Why is there flames everywhere?

"Take back what you said!"

"And if don't?"

A loud sound of slap was heard all over the place.

"He's our son! How could you be so harsh to him?!"

"Well he's not my son anymore, he's all yours, let's divorce."

"Then fine! I've been trying so hard not to vent out my anger on you because I love my son, I don't want him to grow up with a broken family, I'm so tired holding back you immature, only good at words, bullshit, abusive father! Get out!"

My father then looked at me with deadly eyes and said.

"This is all your fault brat! if you weren't born, none of this would ever happen!"

"Don't blame your son for your immaturity!"

My eyes slowly opens when I heard Jen calling my name.

"Junjun, wake up! You're having a nightmare!"

My body was full of sweats, the heavy breathing of mine was obvious, how can I deny it?

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, don't worry."

"Okay."

Tomorrow is the day huh? The final goodbye's, I see. I quickly think of a way to get rid of him questioning me about my dream.

"You're leaving tomorrow right?" I asked him as the sunlight hitted our faces.

"Y-yes.." he answered and quickly went silent.

"Let's go home now." Jen said acting enthusiastic.

I just nodded then stands up, we ran for a very few minutes then felt like something was wrong.

"Junjun, did you hear the sound of the bushes near that big acacia tree?" He asked me with a shaky voice.

"I did, and I bet it's just a wild animal." I replied trying to sound brave.

I walked closer to the big acacia tree while Jen just hold onto my shirt tightly. Everything's gonna be okay, it's just a cute little wild animal and that's it, no need to be scared, I thought while we're getting closer.

When I was about to make another step an ugly voice appeared behind the big acacia tree which made our small body jolt.

"I'm offended kid's, is my voice really that ugly?" he said showing up himself.

"M-monster!" Jen screamed pointing at the tall with long black jeans and a ripped in the stomach part long sleeves.

"I'm not a monster! You wanky, with cranky voice brat!" He yelled at us looking annoyed.

Not being rude but he kinda looked like he just got up with his grave with those sleepy eyes with a long black straight unattractive hair and with that outfit of his.

"Help me kids, let's make my plan successful!" He yelled with a monstrous grin.

"I'll help you live the life you wanted, only if you help me."

We just listened to him without knowing the meaning of what he's saying, both of us don't understand a thing. Jen clenched at my shirt signalling me to run. he continued speaking while I was thinking of what to do.

"Run!" Jen yelled.

We rushly ran, trying to get away with the weird guy who's spouting non sense. He just sighed while looking at us running. Why isn't he chasing us? No I should be happy that he didn't chase us.
