Two days has passed since Lucian met with the God of Illusions.
He has taken time to study the system that was given to him by the Eroye.
It was both surprising and fascinating because it was almost like the ones he used to know in the games back on earth. The system had so many functions, that he believed could help him so much.
He could communicate with it like a human but the functions were limited due to his rank. He learned that as his rank progressed, so will the system functions increase.
Right now, it could only respond in text form but he learnt that the system could actually talk if he met the right requirements. It also could record and store information for him.
The system also had a daily task option that allowed him to perform task and missions on daily basis in order to increase his status points amd also receive rewards.
It also had an [Evolution Ex] function that allowed his items, artifacts and other things that were soul bound to him to Evolve to the next rank. He could also ask the system for information that he didn't know. To him, this was real definition of luck.
What he didn't know that the God of Illusions has bypassed rules of the world to allow him to have everything he needed. They needed the boy alive to live for longer and in such a world where monsters and dangers were at every turn, he needed everything he could get to survive.
Lucian had just finished browsing through his status page which hasn't seen much changes-probably due to the fact that he hasn't really done anything since it became active.
Just then he head a knock at the door.
"Come in" he said and the door opened revealing the Head Maid of the Veyrath Household
"Good morning Lucian"
"Good morning Aunt Helen" Lucian replied with a smile.
"You look lively. I believe you had a good sleep" she commented, noticing the changes in the boy since the incident on the night of Solstice.
"Yes I did. Is breakfast ready?" Lucian asked.
"In a few minutes. I came to inform you that your sister will leave for the capital this morning and Lord Aaron has requested to see you after breakfast" She said.
"Okay, thanks. I'll get ready now" Lucian replied with a smile before jumping off the bed. Helen bowed slightly In curtesy with a smile begore leaving the room to continue her duties. After taking his bath, Lucian went down to the dining area where the whole family were seated.
He went to sit beside his sister to have one last moment with before she left them. He had imagine their reunion in a different way before everything took a left turn. Aaron who has also just arrived at the table scanned his grandson whom he hasn't seen in a couple of days, sensing the changes in him. He couldn't point it out but as a person who has attained the saint rank—one of the beings whole stood at the apex of humanity, he could feel the heavy aura coming from the boy. But he decided to ignore that for now.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make your stay a memorable one." Lucian told Mailie. She stopped eating and turned to him. "You're my family. Whatever you face, we face it together. That's what family does" She said and kissed the younger boy's forehead.
"How about we do the catch up here then"
Lucian asked Mailie. The latter looked the boy fondly before replying "Alright then. But don't choke on your food" she added.
"How was your first mission like? Did you meet scary monsters?" He asked.
"It was scary. We encountered several high ranked monsters but with team work, my group survived. I actually killed three rank 5 monsters you know." Mailie answered, surprising even her parents.
Mailie was just fourteen years and of the Initiate Rank. For some, killing a rank 5 monster was almost impossible, not to talk of killing three of them.
Judging by the looks of doubt on the faces of those seated at the table, she took out a red glowing orb from her storage ring and placed it on the table. Lucian immediately used the appraisal function of the system to inquire about the beast core
[Rank 5 Beast Core]
Rank 5 Minotaur
<
[You decide]
"Can I touch it" Lucian asked already reaching his hands towards it
"Of course" Mailie replied and Lucian picked it up slowly.
As soon as his hands touched it, a series of text appeared in front of him.
<
[Yes/No]
He read the text in silence and returned the beast core back onto the table.
"Well done Mailie" Micheal, Mailie's father said.
"But a rank 5 Minotaur is a bit dangerous to attempt. Always prioritize your safety first if it's a monster stronger than you" He said and his daughter nodded with a smile. As the only daughter in the family, he knew how much the family cared about her and she understood their worries.
Just then Aaron who had not spoken all this while laughed histerically, catching everyone's attention.
"That's my girl. The Veyrath blood. Ignore this coward of a father you have. This was how I was moving when I was your age. Killing higher ranked monsters, here and there. That's the vibe" the old man said out loud, clearly impressed by his granddaughter's achievement.
Micheal who has just been called a coward shook his head helplessly. He was already used to his father being like this so he ignored him.
The entire table became lively as the girl recounted her adventurous journeys.
The adults noted that Lucian who has been reserved the past couple of days was the one asking most of the questions.
While some of them thought he has just accepted his fate, Aaron thought otherwise. And he planned to inquire later.
After breakfast, the whole family gathered in front of the castle where the a big wagon was waiting to take the take the Mailie back to the capital. Her father, Micheal would take her to the nearest city for her to use the teleportation gate that will transport her directly to the Alliance Academy. Mailie kissed and hugged her mother and grandfather. She walked to Lucian and crouched down a bit to his height level. "There are other ways to join the academy, you know." She said and kissed the boy's forehead. She hugged him tightly and added "I look forward to seeing you". She said before pulling back.
A few minutes later, the black wagon took off, headed for the city of Garlass.
