Chapter 22 - Survival Challenge [Part 3]

Lucian woke up abruptly from his sleep as he sensed somebody in his surroundings.

Since it was just a few hours till sun rise, the surroundings was still dark but he could see clearly as day due to his half elven blood.

Yes, elves could see clearly as day even in darkness.

As He scanned his surroundings, he noticed a bow and several arrows which were not previously there, lying a few meters away from him. Obviously, somebody might have put it there which means he overslept. One of the arrows were firmly embedded in the ground with a piece of paper tied on its tail as tail as earlier.

He untied the paper and read it's content;

[You sleep like that and you may wake up without your head. And there's no escaping so fight with everything you have. That is the only way you survive in such a world like this]

As if waiting for Lucian to finish reading, several arrows flew into the cover shade with no particular target, as though the person was trying to chase him out.

"Oh shit" He cursed under his breath and immediately picked the bow and arrow and stored them inside his storage ring before dashing out of the the cover shade.

His wound had already healed and he could run perfectly on all twos.

Lucian sprinted, pushing his way through the woods with no particular direction. Since he was caught off guard, he only wanted to create some distance between him and his trainer and plan on what to do next.

Countless arrows were sent after him as he ducked them one after the other, sometimes using the trees as a cover.

Right now he couldn't fight back or escape, and the only thing he could do was run. And when it came to running he was pretty good at it, except for running in bushes. Leaves, ropes, roots and tree barks crossed him every now and then, making him fall but he got up as fast as he could and continued running.

What Lucian didn't know was that, even if he wanted to escape, he couldn't. If he had gone a bit far earlier when he decided to escape, he would have realized a part of the forest has been sealed off. That was the reason so many monsters were detected by Nexus on the other side.

"I need your help Nexus" Lucian activated the system as he countinued to run as fast as possible.

"Can you provide me a real time map of this place?" Lucian asked.

"System can only provide the host a rough real time map"

"It's okay, that is enough. As long as I'm able to pinpoint his location" Lucian replied.

"Noted. I'll begin to work on that" The system replied.

All this back and forth communication was only in text as the system could not talk to Lucian at the moment. He needed to raise his rank and meet the requirements for most of the system's function to open up to him.

Lucian was a very good archer for his age. As a half elf, it was a natural talent which his uncle Micheal had helped him nurse since his main profession was archery. So having a bow and arrow might be to his advantage but in this case, he was like an insect being compared to a human.

Whoever was after him shot with precision and accuracy. And the dangerous thing was that he could shoot so fast from different angles making it seem as though there were several archers in action.

Though he already had the bow he received from the God of Illusions, he couldn't use it because he was way below the required rank to wield it but with this bow and arrow and good planning, he believed he would at least survive with the mysterious archer on his tails.

Lucian continued to run for thirty minutes straight until he was almost out of breath. Since the arrows has stopped coming, he believe he had created a good distance between himself and his hunter. He leaned against a tree and opened the notification he had received.

As he opened it, a big map opened up in front of him with two blinking dots. It was a big yellow blinking dot and a small green one. Immediately he saw it m, he knew he was the green and the yellow was the man after him. But what made his eyes widen in shock as soon as the map appeared was the fact that the yellow blinking dot was just a few meters away from green one.

"Oh f*ck" as soon as that curse came out, Lucian screamed in pain as a dagger cut through his left shoulder. He dived to the side immediately, dodging the second swing at him but the masked man was already steps ahead of him. He felt a surge of pain at the back of his left leg as another dagger drew blood. He skidded to his left side and immediately rose to his feet, breaking through the small bushes to escape. He limped on one leg, running as fast as he could while checking the map for the location of the yellow dot. After running for a few minutes he realized the yellow dot was not moving but still stood at where it was. He walked for a few minutes before find a proper place to tend to his wound. The sun was rising , which gave the surroundings a little light. So far, whoever was up against him has proved to be unpredictable. He knew that he only needed to keep tabs on his location and he'll always be steps ahead of him.

"I want you to track his location, Nexus. Inform me immediately there's any movement" Lucian ordered the system. He took out the same recovery potion like earlier and poured half of it's content onto his wounds before gulping the rest.

He took a deep breath and leaned his head against a tree to take quick rest till his wounds healed completely, with which has already healing. A few seconds later, a series of text popped up in fron of him followed by a voice behind him.

"That is your mistake, you lose your awareness"
