Looks like it's over. I'm dead. As they say: born, studied, married… nah, that last one's not about me. Anyway, I was walking on an icy sidewalk in the evening, slipped, fell, and impaled my head on an iron spike. So now I'm floating (probably) through an endless void, trying to figure out what comes next.
'God, if you're out there, answer me one question. Why did you create this world? It's literal hell. What was the point of all this? God? Hey?!'
'There is no God. I'm standing in for him,' came a voice from the void.
'Then who are you?' I yelled into the emptiness, futilely trying to make out anything in the space around me.
'Let's just say… I'm a higher-order being, whose greatness you're simply incapable of comprehending.'
'Right… and what do you want… Being?'
'Don't get impudent,' the bodiless voice said, with a hint of irritation. 'Anyway, I looked over your life and decided you'll do. You're going to be a pawn in my game.'
'Why would I do that? I don't like the sound of that. I refuse.'
'Nobody asked you. So here's the deal: I'm going to shove your soul into the body of my game piece, and the rest is up to you.'
'Up to me doing what? What am I supposed to do?'
'What else? Push past your limits! With style and without mercy. I think you've got it in you.'
And with that, the conversation ended, and I blacked out."
