Chapter 1 - The Explosion

Sarah Rivers Lanco. A young female brunette with a suicide pill covered in her left palm, hiding from the fact of kidnapping attempt and suspected murder. She sat still on the bed hoping it would kill the deeper demons hiding between her lungs.

The explosion hit heavily and she ran through the crowd trying to seek safety in the hotel room. She ran through the smoke and fire emerging from the ground, spreading through the air although the atmosphere. She shut her door knowing the police already knew her location and the explosion was just a simple distraction made to keep her stuck there. She ran into her room and she shut the door.

After a while she heard the voices of men, calm but calculated moving through the hallways. She dared no one to step out through the door.

She heard the loud stomp on the wall, it hit again and this time it touched the door hard. The police already caught up with it, she stared at the room. Eyes on the clock, eyes on the wall and definitely eyes on the door. Suddenly the door burst open and the police walked in with their fully armed selves.

She knew the first operating officer, Manchester Reed. The head of the unit and the best officer in the game with the brain of a fifteen year old experienced commander. The masculine supreme of his league and the sigma of the research field. He stared at her calmly. It felt unusual.

"Madam? You have the right to remain silent until further investigation. Stand up without resistance and come with us." Manchester said. Sarah slowly and calmly walked towards him and she gave herself over to the squad. She didn't have a choice.

They walked out of the building with her and straight to the car. She stared at Manchester through the mirror and it amazed her that he could stare back at him, he had this amazing eye contact she couldn't explain. She stayed there knowing she could explain one thing, she had two options and it was stuck between jail or death.

She finally smiled at him and surprisingly he smiled back. She didn't expect that, she wanted to flinch but she decided it wasn't best for the moment. "Sir? We are here. We'll need her blood samples for the trace track."

She didn't think she heard them properly. Trace track? What the heck was that? She didn't understand it. Manchester could see the tears slowly build up in her eyes, he could understand her. He stepped out of the car for further conversations.

Although she could hear him. "We need to confirm if she's not the one. We can't trust her." She heard these words faintly, she tried to ignore her neck turning to the side. After a few minutes, he returned to her and this time he was stiff.

"Your name?" He asked her. She turned to him calmly. She didn't understand him.

He asked her again, "What's your name? Miss?"

She ignored his body build as she turned to look at his face. Of course he knew he was highly attractive but then he snubbed it. She replied anyway, "Sarah."

He stared at her like he wasn't satisfied with the reply he just received. "Madam I'll need the full government."

"Sarah Rivers Lanco." She said firmly.

He stared at her like he knew that name from a while back. "Lanco? Rivers? Rivers Lanco? Do you have any connections to the Lanco industries or the Rivers campaign?"

"Yes I do. I'm his first daughter." His blue eyes stared deeply into her hazel eyes, he knew her father but he also suspected she was lying. So he decided to confirm with the one point he knew only a true Lanco would know?

"What are the three numbers of the Lanco family?" She knew immediately, he didn't trust her.

"Seven. One. Seven. That's the total number of connections and campaigns held by my family. At least my father." She said.

Manchester moved closer to her, she could perceive his cologne. He uttered back to her, "Do you know Camilla Stance? Derrick Stance? Any chance?"

"There is a part of the family called the ancestral square. It's not a place but it's actually a book. A simple book with the list of the past owners and executives of the campaigns, companies and the mafia involved. Would you like to see it?" She explained and asked.

He replied, "Of course. I would but then do you know them? The names I called earlier? The Stance family?"

"Officer?_"

"Stop. It's Manchester Reed. Just call me Manchester only."

"Right. Manchester? I didn't know them personally but I know their names and I've seen their names in the book. It should include everything."

"How do I get it? The book? The ancestral square?" He inquired.

"By the graveyard of bones, south of the city." Her tone made it clear, this case wasn't the best of what he thought. He just put his life on the line.

"Officer Reed?! We need her at the laboratory. Now." He turned to stare at the highest detective Clifford calmly. He gave a nod.

He led Sarah into the laboratory. She sat for a few tests and when they were done, they walked straight to the interrogation room for further enquiries. She sat calmly staring at the four officers right in front of her.

Manchester stood behind them. Clifford started first, "Tell us what you know about the explosion. Every single bit of it. Explain extensively to us."

She adjusted her body forward to answer the question. "It all started with the ancestral square. The book of records used for the change of seats and historical events."

Clifford tore out a piece of paper and moved it closer to her with a pen beside it. "Write all you know here. Scribble all you want but I want every single detail about the family and don't forget the mafia part. That's more than essential for this case. I'll be waiting for it."

His tone was clear to her, he wasn't the type to play games with.
