Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 – Everyone Thinks They’re Engaged

Mr. Greengrass sat slumped in his chair with lifeless eyes.

He stared blankly toward the ceiling while muttering nonstop to himself like a man whose soul had already left his body.

"I thought this day wouldn't come for at least another ten years…"

"Merlin's beard… she's only eleven…"

His voice trembled with grief.

"Could it be because she dislikes her father now? Is she already in such a hurry to leave home?"

"Oh no… my heart is breaking…"

Meanwhile, Kafi stood nearby nervously while watching her master spiral deeper into emotional despair.

Mr. Greengrass, however, continued mumbling endlessly.

"Of course, Lucas is an excellent boy. Extremely talented. Even Dumbledore praises him constantly. His character is wonderful, and he's handsome too…"

"Even if he has no assets right now, that's not really a problem with our family supporting him…"

Then his expression collapsed again.

"But they're only eleven!"

"They haven't even started Hogwarts yet!"

"What will Elena say when she hears about this…"

Kafi's eyes suddenly widened.

That's right!

The mistress!

The house-elf instantly became excited again.

"Yes! Kafi must tell the mistress the good news too! Kafi was so foolish not to think of it earlier!"

Snap!

The elf disappeared instantly from the study.

At that moment, Elena Greengrass—Lady Greengrass herself—was currently inside Dumbledore's office at Hogwarts.

One of the Greengrass family's major businesses involved trading rare magical herbs. She had come to Hogwarts this time to discuss the cultivation of several rare plants with Professor Sprout.

By coincidence, while preparing to leave, she happened to encounter Dumbledore.

Since Dumbledore was highly concerned about Lucas's recovery, he had invited her to the Headmaster's office for tea.

Then—

Snap!

Kafi burst directly into the room.

"Kafi," Mrs. Greengrass said immediately with a stern frown, "I believe I taught you proper etiquette. You are not supposed to interrupt when people are speaking."

The house-elf instantly panicked.

"Oh no! The mistress is right! Bad Kafi! Terrible Kafi!"

The elf immediately threw herself onto the floor and began repeatedly smashing her forehead against it.

"Kafi deserves punishment!"

"All right, stop that," Elena said with another sigh. "So what was important enough to make you interrupt us like this?"

Kafi quickly climbed back to her feet, though she still looked dizzy from hitting her own head.

Fortunately, her excitement remained completely unaffected.

"Mistress! Wonderful news!" Kafi squealed happily. "Miss Cassandra accepted the noble and honorable Mr. Summers's marriage proposal!"

Dumbledore froze.

Mrs. Greengrass froze.

Meanwhile, Kafi continued happily.

"The master is currently crying tears of joy in his study! Kafi thought the mistress should hear the good news immediately too!"

"What?!"

Mrs. Greengrass looked utterly stunned.

However, the reason for her shock was completely different from her husband's.

She was not surprised that Lucas proposed.

After all, she knew perfectly well how beautiful her daughter was. No normal boy could possibly resist Cassandra's charm forever.

What truly shocked her was this:

Cassandra accepted?

Her arrogant, proud, impossible-to-please daughter actually accepted?!

"Yes! Yes!" Kafi nodded excitedly. "Kafi saw it personally! Mr. Summers placed the ring onto Miss Cassandra's finger himself, and Miss Cassandra didn't refuse at all!"

Mrs. Greengrass took a deep breath to calm herself.

"…And what exactly did Knox say?"

"Oh!" Kafi immediately repeated everything proudly.

"The master said Mr. Summers is an excellent boy! Very talented! Even the great Headmaster Dumbledore praises him constantly! His character is wonderful, and he's very handsome too!"

"So the proposal isn't a problem at all!"

If Mr. Greengrass had been present right now, he probably would have strangled Kafi on the spot.

The house-elf's storytelling abilities were absolutely catastrophic.

By the time the message finished passing through Kafi's mouth, the original misunderstanding had somehow become a fully approved family engagement.

Dumbledore sat silently for several seconds.

The old wizard genuinely felt shaken.

An eleven-year-old child…

Actually proposing marriage already?

As a responsible Headmaster, he suddenly felt obligated to speak with Lucas properly.

After all, Hogwarts rules did not prohibit dating.

But proposals?

Perhaps those could wait another few years.

"Professor Dumbledore," Mrs. Greengrass said calmly while standing up, though her expression remained visibly complicated, "I believe I should return home immediately."

Clearly, she intended to question Cassandra personally.

Dumbledore nodded slowly.

"Yes… I think that may be wise."

Meanwhile, back at the Greengrass estate—

Mr. Greengrass stood outside Cassandra's bedroom door nervously.

The door remained tightly shut.

Inside the room, Cassandra had completely buried herself beneath the blankets.

Her face was still burning red.

Yet despite her embarrassment, she had absolutely no intention of removing the ring from her finger.

Hidden beneath the covers, she stared continuously at the glowing letters across the ring.

Sometimes she smiled unconsciously.

Sometimes she became embarrassed again moments later.

A proposal…

Why was he suddenly moving so fast?

Couldn't they at least secretly date first or something?

And what would her parents think if they found out?

Thankfully, they still didn't know—

"Kassandra!"

Mr. Greengrass's voice suddenly came from outside the door.

Cassandra froze in horror.

"Kassandra, did you really accept Lucas's proposal and wear his ring?"

Cassandra nearly died on the spot.

"That idiot!" she squeaked internally. "Did he seriously run to tell my father immediately?!"

She became so embarrassed that she almost wanted to blast a hole through the floor with magic and hide underground forever.

Now that the matter had been exposed directly, Cassandra's panic and embarrassment exploded instantly.

Subconsciously, she only wanted her father to stop asking about it immediately.

So without thinking, she blurted out—

"It's none of your business! Stop bothering me!"

Outside the room—

Crack.

Mr. Greengrass felt his fragile fatherly heart shatter completely.

He slowly lowered his head in despair.

"She really hates her father now…"

"She actually said it has nothing to do with me…"

Mr. Greengrass looked utterly devastated.

"Oh… if only I had spent more time with her back then…"
