Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 – The Richest First Year in Diagon Alley

A short while later, Lucas walked out through the front doors of Gringotts surrounded by an entire group of extremely polite goblins.

There was no helping it.

He was simply too rich.

The moment Lucas casually started taking gold bars out one after another from his storage ring, the goblin responsible for receiving him nearly fainted from happiness.

By the time he finally left the bank, Lucas's storage ring had been thoroughly refilled with a mountain of gold Galleons.

Now he was officially wealthy.

Properly wealthy.

Lucas pulled out the Hogwarts acceptance letter Dumbledore had left for him earlier.

Attached to it was the full list of required books and school supplies.

After briefly scanning the list, Lucas immediately made a decision.

First—

He needed to buy an owl.

Otherwise, how exactly was he supposed to write letters to Cassandra?

In fact, Lucas strongly felt he should send her a letter immediately after buying one.

Sometimes, trusting a prophet's instincts was important.

Following the map Cassandra had drawn for him personally, Lucas eventually stopped outside a narrow, somewhat hidden little shop.

Soft hooting sounds continuously echoed from within.

The sign above the entrance read:

Eeylops Owl Emporium.

Lucas pushed open the door and entered.

The inside of the shop was fairly dark. Rows upon rows of cages lined the walls, each containing different species of owls.

Grey owls.

Barn owls.

Snowy owls.

Tiny energetic owls.

Huge proud-looking ones.

The moment Lucas stepped inside, countless pairs of eyes immediately focused on him simultaneously.

It almost felt as though the owls themselves were evaluating potential owners.

Lucas became increasingly convinced that magical creatures possessed extremely high intelligence.

A young shop assistant quickly approached him enthusiastically.

"Hello! Looking to buy an owl? Or perhaps owl treats?"

"I'd like an owl," Lucas replied with a smile. "And probably some owl food as well."

The assistant immediately began introducing different owls enthusiastically.

Some were powerful and majestic.

Some were tiny and adorable.

Some looked proud and aloof.

Others looked energetic and mischievous.

Lucas quietly examined them one by one.

Then suddenly—

His eyes stopped.

Inside one cage sat an unusually lively little snowy owl.

Compared to normal snowy owls, this one was significantly smaller.

At first glance, it practically resembled a fluffy white snowball.

"That one," Lucas said immediately.

After paying twenty Galleons, Lucas officially obtained the tiny snowy owl.

Honestly, it was absurdly expensive.

Fortunately, money meant absolutely nothing to him anymore.

Lucas smiled while looking at the energetic little creature bouncing around inside the cage excitedly.

"From now on, your name is Snowball."

The tiny owl chirped happily while flapping around energetically as though eager to fly immediately.

Lucas left the owl shop carrying the cage before pulling out a piece of parchment.

With a light tap of his wand—

Words began appearing across the paper automatically.

Then moments later, the writing faded away completely.

This was a small magical trick he and Cassandra had studied together recently.

Letters written using this enchantment appeared blank unless revealed using a specific counter-spell.

Lucas honestly did not care much about secrecy.

But Cassandra constantly insisted they remain cautious around Mrs. Greengrass.

So naturally, he cooperated.

Lucas quickly finished writing the letter before folding the parchment carefully.

Then he gently handed it to Snowball.

"Deliver this to Cassandra."

The snowy owl immediately understood.

Lucas still found that fascinating.

Owls somehow always knew exactly where letters needed to go even without explicit instructions.

After releasing Snowball into the sky, Lucas stored the empty cage inside his ring before checking his shopping list once more.

Just then—

"Excuse me… are you Mr. Summers?"

Lucas turned immediately.

Standing nearby was a tall witch wearing elegant emerald-green robes.

Behind her stood a Muggle couple along with a bushy-haired little girl.

Lucas instantly recognized all of them.

Professor McGonagall.

The Grangers.

And Hermione.

Of course, the current version of Lucas was not supposed to know any of them.

So naturally, he maintained a perfectly calm expression.

"Yes, I am," he replied politely. "And you are?"

The witch smiled warmly.

"Minerva McGonagall. Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts and Professor of Transfiguration."

Her eyes carried obvious curiosity.

"I've heard Professor Dumbledore mention you quite often recently."

"He speaks very highly of your talent in Transfiguration."

"To be honest, I haven't heard him praise a student this enthusiastically in years."

Lucas immediately looked embarrassed.

"Professor Dumbledore exaggerates too much," he said modestly. "Actually, he told me you're the greatest Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts."

"I'm really looking forward to learning from you."

Professor McGonagall became increasingly satisfied while observing him.

Before this, Dumbledore had already informed her that an exceptionally talented young wizard would be entering Hogwarts this year.

He also described Lucas strangely.

According to Dumbledore, Lucas possessed a unique temperament that naturally drew people toward him.

Dumbledore even claimed that once she saw the boy personally, she would recognize him instantly within a crowd.

At first, McGonagall thought that sounded absurd.

Then she entered Diagon Alley earlier today and immediately noticed the black-haired boy standing quietly while studying a map.

Even within the crowded streets, he somehow naturally stood out.

Not because of his appearance.

But because of his presence.

So she approached him directly.

Now it seemed Dumbledore had been completely correct.

"Professor McGonagall," Lucas asked politely, "what brings you here today?"

"I'm guiding Miss Granger and her parents through Diagon Alley so they can purchase school supplies."

She gently guided Hermione forward.

"This is Hermione Granger. She'll be one of your classmates this year."

Lucas politely shook hands with Mr. and Mrs. Granger before greeting Hermione as well.

Yes.

Definitely movie-version Hermione.

Fortunately, Lucas maintained a calm expression externally.

"We were actually just about to visit Gringotts to exchange currency," McGonagall explained.

She clearly intended to continue escorting the Grangers afterward.

Lucas paused thoughtfully.

"Exchange currency?"

He looked toward Mr. Granger.

"If I remember correctly, Gringotts limits how much Muggle currency can be exchanged for Galleons each year."

"There's a fairly strict cap."

Mr. Granger looked slightly surprised.

"That's true?"

"Yes." Lucas nodded casually. "Actually, I just came from Gringotts myself."

"If you'd like, I can exchange directly with you instead."

"There's no limit that way."

The truth was, Lucas genuinely planned to exchange for some Muggle currency eventually anyway.

Rather than letting Gringotts profit from the conversion rates, he preferred trading directly with Mr. Granger instead.

Since Professor McGonagall stood nearby, naturally the Grangers were not worried about being deceived.

"How much are you offering?" Mr. Granger asked curiously.

Honestly, he did not expect an eleven-year-old child to possess much money.

Lucas smiled.

"How many pounds did you bring?"

"Roughly one thousand," Mr. Granger answered after counting the cash.

"All right."

Lucas immediately took out a Gringotts money pouch.

"I'll take all of it."

Then he handed over two hundred Galleons directly.

The standard exchange rate was approximately one Galleon for five pounds.

The pouch itself also possessed an Undetectable Extension Charm capable of holding huge amounts of money.

Professor McGonagall finally looked genuinely curious.

"Lucas," she asked carefully, "where exactly did you obtain this much money?"

Two hundred Galleons was not a small amount.

Certainly not for a child.

This time, however, Lucas answered honestly.

"I have a pet creature Professor Dumbledore already knows about."

"Its venom sells for roughly five hundred Galleons per ounce."

That was entirely true.

He had specifically asked Mrs. Greengrass to have Nagini's venom professionally evaluated earlier.

The market value really was that outrageous.

So even without the Philosopher's Stone, Lucas would never truly lack money.

After all—

Nagini's venom was practically liquid gold.
