Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 – The Wand That Chose Darkness

After parting with Professor McGonagall and the Grangers, Lucas finally prepared to head toward his next destination.

He wanted a wand that truly belonged to him.

The wand he currently carried had originally belonged to a captured werewolf wizard. Although it had already submitted to him reasonably well, Lucas still wanted a new one.

After all—

Now he had money.

And when someone had money, buying better equipment was only natural.

When Professor McGonagall heard that Lucas intended to purchase a wand, she smiled slightly.

"Perfect timing, then," she said. "The Grangers already exchanged enough Galleons, so we no longer need to visit Gringotts."

"We're heading to Ollivanders right now to buy Miss Granger's wand."

Lucas nodded calmly.

"Then I'll join you."

Along the way, he naturally began discussing Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall again.

After more than half a month studying inside the Greengrass family library, Lucas's Transfiguration mastery had already reached an extremely advanced level.

And unlike many of his abilities—

This progress came entirely from personal study rather than system points.

There was no helping it.

With ten points in intelligence, Lucas basically turned into a magical learning machine whenever he studied seriously.

Meanwhile, Hermione remained unusually quiet during the journey.

However, she constantly observed Lucas from the side.

This boy seemed extremely knowledgeable about the wizarding world.

Probably someone from an old magical family.

More importantly—

The conversation between Lucas and Professor McGonagall completely stunned her.

They casually discussed Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration.

The five principal exceptions to Transfiguration.

Advanced transformation theory.

Magical conversion stability.

Hermione listened the entire time with growing confusion.

She understood absolutely nothing.

For perhaps the first time in her life, Hermione Granger experienced the feeling of being academically crushed.

As someone who had always been the best student everywhere she went, this was deeply shocking.

Instantly, her competitive spirit ignited.

The moment she bought her textbooks later—

She was going to memorize every single one cover to cover.

Next time, she would absolutely join conversations like this naturally too.

Professor McGonagall herself also felt increasingly astonished.

"It seems you truly learned an enormous amount during your stay with the Greengrass family," she sighed eventually.

"Honestly, at this rate, I may soon have very little left to teach you."

She had genuinely never met an eleven-year-old wizard capable of discussing Transfiguration with her on such a deep level.

Lucas immediately looked embarrassed again.

"Professor McGonagall praises me too much."

Eventually, the group arrived outside Ollivanders Wand Shop.

The store looked tiny and old-fashioned. Even the golden lettering above the entrance appeared partially faded with age.

The sign read:

Ollivander: Makers of Fine Wands Since 382 B.C.

Lucas seriously suspected that if Ollivanders did not possess a complete monopoly on wand sales in Britain, the shop would have gone bankrupt long ago based on appearances alone.

Of course…

Perhaps the shabby atmosphere itself was part of the tradition.

Ding!

Lucas pushed open the door politely while allowing Professor McGonagall to enter first.

The interior was narrow and cramped.

With all five of them inside together, the room immediately felt crowded.

Lucas quietly sat on a bench while his eyes swept across the countless wand boxes stacked everywhere.

Very good.

Through the boxes themselves, he could already see status panels for the wands hidden inside.

He immediately began searching carefully for the best possible match.

"Good afternoon."

A soft voice suddenly echoed through the shop, startling the Grangers slightly.

An old man with pale silver eyes had somehow appeared silently behind the counter.

Garrick Ollivander.

"Professor McGonagall," Ollivander greeted pleasantly. "Fir wood, nine and a half inches, dragon heartstring, rigid flexibility."

"A very fine wand for Transfiguration."

McGonagall nodded politely.

"Good memory as always, Ollivander."

"This time I've brought several students to purchase wands."

"Ah…"

Ollivander's pale eyes drifted slowly toward Hermione and Lucas.

"So these are the young witches and wizards buying wands today."

He smiled slightly.

"Which of you would like to go first?"

"Ladies first," Lucas answered immediately.

In truth, he still wanted additional time to search.

After all, the werewolf wizard's wand already possessed ninety-one percent compatibility with him.

If he bought a new wand, naturally he wanted something even better.

Meanwhile, Ollivander had already begun measuring Hermione using an enchanted tape measure.

After trying several wands—

Hermione finally found hers.

Vine wood.

Ten and three-quarter inches.

Dragon heartstring core.

Reasonably supple flexibility.

The moment Hermione waved it, golden sparks burst beautifully from the tip.

Exactly the same as canon.

Then Ollivander turned toward Lucas.

"Now then, young sir."

Lucas stepped forward toward the counter.

"Which is your wand hand?"

"Right."

The measuring tape immediately sprang into motion again.

Lucas suspected the measurements mainly existed to narrow search ranges among the thousands of stored wands.

Otherwise even Ollivander would spend all day searching endlessly.

"Try this one."

Ollivander handed him a reddish-brown wand.

The status panel appeared instantly before Lucas.

[Item: Wand]

[Wood: Alder]

[Core: Dragon Heartstring]

[Length: 10¾ Inches]

[Flexibility: Quite Flexible]

[Condition: Excellent]

[Compatibility: 92%]

[Dark Magic Affinity: 90%]

Honestly, this wand already suited Lucas extremely well.

The moment he waved it lightly, a flock of glowing birds burst from the tip before circling gracefully above everyone's heads.

"Oh!" Ollivander exclaimed immediately. "An excellent match!"

Lucas, however, remained thoughtful.

"Mr. Ollivander… may I try a few more?"

Ollivander looked mildly unhappy.

"The wand chooses the wizard, young man. Not the other way around…"

Still, after seeing Lucas's sincere expression, he sighed.

"Very well. Though I strongly doubt you'll find a better fit."

He prepared to retrieve several additional wands.

Then suddenly—

Lucas spoke again.

"Actually…"

He pointed toward one particular shelf.

"Could you show me the wand located on the third shelf from the bottom, fifth box from the left?"

Ollivander paused.

"That wand?"

He looked genuinely surprised.

"…Interesting."

"Very few people ever notice it."

Although somewhat confused, Ollivander still retrieved the box.

Inside rested a wand resembling polished black jade.

The panel immediately appeared.

[Item: Wand]

[Wood: Ebony]

[Core: Dragon Heartstring]

[Length: 12¾ Inches]

[Flexibility: Extremely Rigid]

[Condition: Excellent]

[Compatibility: 100%]

[Dark Magic Affinity: 99%]

The instant Lucas touched it—

He felt the difference immediately.

The previous wand felt obedient.

Like a servant.

This wand, however…

Felt like an equal.

No.

Like a perfect extension of his own body.

The synchronization was terrifying.

Lucas instinctively raised the wand.

Then casually waved it.

Instantly—

One of the empty boxes on Ollivander's counter twisted and transformed.

A magnificent phoenix made entirely of crimson flame emerged gracefully into existence.

The fiery bird spread its wings before singing beautifully.

The sound filled the entire shop.

The phoenix circled above everyone several times before landing elegantly upon the counter once more.

Its glowing eyes moved intelligently while observing everyone curiously.

Silence filled the room.

Everyone present stood completely stunned.

Ollivander slowly covered his mouth.

"Extraordinary…"

"I have never seen a wand resonate so perfectly with a wizard before."

His pale eyes stared intensely at Lucas.

"So that's why you selected it earlier."

"The wand was calling to you."

Even Professor McGonagall looked visibly shocked.

"What unbelievably delicate Transfiguration…"

"Even the eyes possess realistic intelligence."

She stared at Lucas in disbelief.

"Can an eleven-year-old truly perform Transfiguration at this level already?"
