Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 – Winning Dumbledore’s Trust

Lucas showed no excitement at Dumbledore's praise.

Instead, he lowered his head guiltily, looking exactly like a child who had just been caught doing something reckless.

"I'm sorry, Professor Dumbledore," he said quietly. "I didn't listen to you. I went after Greyback on my own."

Dumbledore's eyes softened immediately.

"It's all right, my boy. After what happened to those children, very few people could remain calm. Even I would struggle." His voice remained gentle, but there was still seriousness hidden beneath it. "However, you mustn't act so impulsively in the future. If something happened to you, everyone who cares about you would be heartbroken."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"Taking reckless risks is unfair to the people who worry about you."

Lucas lowered his head even further.

"I'm sorry, Professor." He hesitated for a moment before speaking again in a somewhat troubled tone. "Could we… not mention that I defeated Greyback?"

Dumbledore looked genuinely surprised.

"Why ever not? A wizard your age defeating a fully transformed werewolf alone is an extraordinary achievement. You would become quite famous."

"Famous?" Lucas shook his head immediately. "I don't care about that, Professor. Honestly, if Cassandra finds out I did something this dangerous again, she'll probably kill me herself."

Dumbledore blinked before laughing softly.

"Very well. I'll respect your wishes." His smile carried obvious approval. "It's quite rare to meet a child who cares so little for fame and recognition."

Then his expression turned warm once more.

"But regardless, I'm proud of you."

Dumbledore glanced toward the distant battlefield.

"Come along. The Aurors can handle the rest. Right now, you need to return to the camp and let Madam Pomfrey examine you properly. Your injuries have already been neglected for far too long."

He extended a hand toward Lucas.

"This may feel unpleasant the first time, but you'll get used to it eventually."

Lucas grabbed Dumbledore's arm.

Crack!

With a sharp sound like a whip splitting the air, both of them vanished instantly.

The next moment, Lucas experienced pure suffering.

It felt as though his entire body had been stretched into rubber, stuffed through an impossibly narrow pipe, and then tossed into a washing machine spinning at maximum speed.

By the time the sensation finally stopped, he nearly collapsed.

The two of them had already returned to the temporary medical camp. Right in front of them stood Madam Pomfrey's large white treatment tent.

Lucas's face turned pale green.

He almost vomited out his lunch on the spot.

Dumbledore chuckled knowingly beside him.

"The first Apparition experience is unpleasant for nearly everyone. I myself almost sickened the first time I tried it. After a few more attempts, however, you'll adapt."

The old wizard blinked playfully.

"Now then, inside you go. I still have quite a mess to clean up back there."

Lucas nodded weakly.

Crack!

Dumbledore disappeared again.

As he left, the Headmaster felt increasingly satisfied with Lucas.

The boy showed no obsession with fame or power. In that regard, he was fundamentally different from Voldemort.

Dumbledore had already made up his mind.

He would guide Lucas carefully and ensure the child never strayed onto the wrong path. After all, Lucas's talent was frighteningly similar to the kind possessed by Grindelwald in his youth.

A gifted wizard like that could either become the world's salvation…

Or its disaster.

Meanwhile, Lucas's system suddenly spoke again.

"Ding! Host's acting skills are truly superb! You have successfully gained Dumbledore's preliminary trust, laying an important foundation for your future career as the greatest—"

Lucas cut it off immediately in his head.

"You still have the nerve to talk? You're the one who suddenly threw out an emergency mission like a lunatic! I could've peacefully stayed behind eating snacks and watching the show, but instead I nearly used the Killing Curse in front of Dumbledore again!"

"Ding! The system never forced the host to accept the mission."

"You literally said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

"Ding! Was the host not tempted?"

Lucas paused for half a second.

"…Fine. Maybe a little."

Then he sighed helplessly.

"What can I do? I'm a transmigrator. Transmigrators are naturally greedy collectors when it comes to good stuff."

After bickering with the system for a while longer, Lucas finally pushed open the entrance flap of the medical tent.

Madam Pomfrey instantly looked over.

The moment she saw him clearly, her expression softened with concern. Lucas's naturally gentle appearance and calm temperament already made him incredibly likable to adults.

Then she saw the injuries covering his body.

Her eyes turned red immediately.

"Oh, Merlin's beard… how could anyone do this to such a sweet child?" she exclaimed tearfully. "And you're still smiling after enduring all these injuries. Honestly, what a brave boy…"

While examining him, Madam Pomfrey continuously scolded him for not seeking treatment sooner and for recklessly following Dumbledore into such dangerous circumstances.

The Healers assisting nearby were equally shocked.

The scars across Lucas's body were horrifying to look at.

Yet this same child had endured everything without breaking before managing to seek out Dumbledore for help, ultimately allowing all the captured children to be rescued.

The more they learned, the more admiration filled their eyes whenever they looked at him.

For the next half hour, the tent remained busy nonstop.

Lucas was subjected to endless examinations, diagnostic charms, and several goblets of extremely unpleasant potions that tasted like rotten plants mixed with melted metal.

Only after completing every treatment did Madam Pomfrey finally allow him to rest.

Thankfully, the medical staff at Hogwarts truly deserved their reputation.

Lucas could already feel his body recovering rapidly.

He lay comfortably on the bed while curtains surrounded his section of the tent. Beyond them, he could hear more rescued children being brought inside while the Healers hurried around tending to injuries.

With nothing else to do, Lucas opened his system panel and began reviewing his gains from today's operation.

[Remaining Skill Points: 2]

[Spells: Avada Kedavra – Level 9 (Max), Impediment Jinx – Level 9 (Max), Expelliarmus – Level 1, Grindelwald's Fiendfyre – Level 9 (Max)]

[Items: Philosopher's Stone, Treasure Chest]

[Talents: Obscurus Form, Parseltongue (Master Level), Danger Warning]

This battle had been incredibly profitable.

Nearly every spell Dumbledore taught him had reached maximum level during combat, except for Expelliarmus.

That one remained low simply because it had not been particularly useful in the battle earlier.

In real combat, disarming an opponent was often inefficient.

What if they carried a second wand?

The safest method was still knocking enemies unconscious or immobilizing them completely. A single spell that instantly disabled the opponent was always the best option.

Still, Lucas was most excited about obtaining Grindelwald's Fiendfyre.

The threshold for casting Fiendfyre itself was actually not very high. Even ordinary students could theoretically summon it.

The true problem was control.

That was precisely why Fiendfyre was classified as Dark Magic.

It was easy to unleash, but almost impossible to restrain afterward.

Once released, the cursed flames would continuously devour everything nearby while growing larger and stronger. Over time, the fire even developed a degree of primitive awareness.

The only reason Fiendfyre was not considered as terrifying as the Unforgivable Curses was because it still had countermeasures. If enough skilled wizards worked together, they could suppress or extinguish it.

Grindelwald's improved version, however, was completely different.

His Fiendfyre could be perfectly controlled according to the caster's will.

Even more frightening, the flames could apparently distinguish between enemies and loyal followers.

A fully controllable Fiendfyre.

Lucas absolutely loved the idea.
