The Lost Vampire System Chapter 37 - Passive Power
"Thank you," Jareth said as he placed the sword back in its scabbard and placed it on his back against the backpack that he was wearing before he walked back to stand next to Emma and Madison.
"I don't recall any of the swords having a scabbard," she noted.
"Notice something missing from Major Ethan?" he asked as he nodded toward the teacher who was at the front of the stage.
Madison looked at him for a little while before she noticed that there was a sword missing from his back. Her eyes widened a little as she looked at Jareth's back, where there was the sword.
"He let you use it?" she asked, but the Vampiric just wagged his finger in her face.
"Nuh uh," he giggled. "He gave it to me."
"You're lying," she said as she furrowed her brows at Jareth, and even Emma leaned over to look at him with her own two automatic crossbows, which she was holding.
"Why would I lie?" he retorted. "You would just find out at the end of the lesson. Would it make you feel better if I told you it's just a Simple-tier weapon?"
She frowned when she heard this.
"Why would he only have or use a Simple-tier weapon?"
"Maybe he was just going to use it for the lesson until he gave it to you," Emma suggested. "Maybe he'll just pull out something better now."
"Keep doing what you're doing!" Major Ethan said. "I'm going to just get myself things from my office." He turned and walked to a door behind his desk.
Emma raised up her crossbows, and they glowed.
"I already know how to do this," she said. "Just close your eyes and focus on the flow of energy inside of you," as she looked at Jareth. "That might be a little hard for you since you don't have an Evolved power."
Jareth decided to try since he did have a power, but he didn't know if what he had was so different from a regular Evolved power. He closed his eyes and concentrated, and from within his vision, he was asked if he would like to activate the power of the Becifer weapon. He shrugged as he selected yes, and when he opened his eyes, it had a faint hue around it.
"Well, I'll be damned," Emma stuttered slightly as she looked at Jareth with surprise. "You did it so quickly."
He heard a door close, and he turned his head to see Major Ethan had another sword on his back along with holding a sword sickle in each hand. The two sword sickles had a normal handle, but the blade was curved slightly, similar to a regular sickle. When he reached the trio, he handed them both to Madison.
"You can keep these as well," the Major said.
"What?" Madison asked with confusion written all over her face.
"Your ability is unique and one like I have never seen before," the Major started to explain. "I hope that I can help you train with your Evolved power and help the first one who officially entered the academy without one. Please come back to this room tomorrow."
Before he could let them answer, he turned tail and ran through the crowd as he officially started his lesson.
"The system has analyzed as much as it could about the Trade," the Draven system said. "Two passive abilities unlocked. First passive ability: Swordsman Learn: This passive skill allows you to absorb knowledge and muscle memory of the sword by 20%. Second passive ability: Sword Fighting Aid. This is a passive ability that allows the user to react automatically to incoming attacks, allowing you to parry or deflect with minimal thought."
Jareth read the notification, and the more he started to read, the more a smile started to form. Unlike what he thought, that wasn't all, as the Draven System decided to tell him one more thing.
"Unlike other skills, passive skills are applied regardless of whether the Trade is equipped or not."
His smile grew so wide, then he felt a light slap on his face.
"What was that?" he asked as he looked at Madison.
"You're smiling like you're seeing something that you are not old enough to see for the first time," she answered as she leaned in. "People might get the wrong idea."
"What are you on about?" Jareth tried to defend himself as he waved her off, and she did not pursue further.
He thought about his two passive skills and how useful they were going to be for training and fighting. The excited Vampiric also wondered if he would eventually gain a passive skill from his "Sun" Trade, which for some reason didn't have a name.
For the rest of the lesson, Jareth had a slow training session with Madison, as she also didn't know how to use her weapons. Major Ethan would come over to help them out and give them tips, which they tried to put into their training with minimal success. They continued to do this, and Madison decided to try it in her "inner demon" form, which drew a crowd in. The next second, Jareth found that it was 11 a.m., which meant class was over as a bell rang for five seconds throughout the area of the 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. classes.
"That is all for class," Major Ethan said as students started to leave and come in from the other branches, as the Becifer weapons building was laid out like a tree. "I do hope all of you will come back, but if not, that's okay. I will warn that if you do, you should come here before it gets filled, or you'll have to move on to the next room. Please place your Becifer weapons back where you found them unless I directly gave them to you. If I handed them to you from the wall, then you are not who I am referring to. Enjoy the rest of your day."
