Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 - New Trade

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 36 - New Trade

"Sword Saint," Jareth muttered.

"What," Emma asked as she looked at Jareth.

"Nothing," the Vampiric quickly said as he decided to look at his Sun skills since he had officially gotten the Sun Pulse skill after reaching 100 Solar Points.

Emma shrugged as she turned to face the teacher who was at the front of the class.

Did he say Sword Saint? Madison thought. Like that random person who claimed to slay one- and two-tentacle Lyrackens with ease?

She looked at Ethan, who was now standing at the front again.

No, why would he be here? If he were to reveal his identity, he could find a place anywhere.

"Now!" Major Ethan said, snapping Madison out of her thoughts. "Pick a weapon from the wall. No, you can't keep them, but you can train with them."

There was excitement, and then it was quickly followed by grumbling as they heard the last part.

The students started to head towards the edges of the room, and some went to the second floor, as there were Becifer weapons hanging on the next floor.

Maybe there is a sword on the wall, Jareth thought as he went over.

He looked at the many weapons that were being displayed on the wall. There were gauntlets, knives, spears, lances, different types of armor, and others. Jareth started to use his Appraisal skill on each weapon.

"Spear. Tier: Simple low," the system started as Jareth went rapid-fire. "Chest piece. Tier: Simple high. Chain mace. Tier: Simple mid. Lance. Tier: Simple high."

All little subsections showed what stats each would boost, which he found very useful since you wouldn't be able to know this by looking at it.

"You have been using your Appraisal skill," the system commented. "Appraisal now at level two."

He smiled a little as he looked at the weapons more. On the other side of the room, heading his way, was Major Ethan. He was helping out students figure out what weapons would work well with their ability. After about ten minutes, most students had found Becifer weapons that fit them, except for a handful, which included Madison and Jareth. After he helped out one last person, he went over to Madison.

"Let's see if I can help," Ethan said as he looked at Madison. "What is your power and your name?"

Madison turned to look at her teacher as she answered.

"My name is Madison, and it's a little hard to explain," she explained. "I can conjure my inner demon, and the closest I can compare it to is the sword demon's form."

Ethan's breath paused before continuing, which Jareth swore he could hear as he was looking at a sword on the wall.

"Um, do you mind showing me?" he asked as he took a step back.

Madison looked around before shrugging as black smoke started to surround her body. Her hazel eyes turned brown and smoky as the smoke took shape around her body, which looked to harden and unharden in places. One student asked out loud.

"What Evolved power is that?"

This caused other students to turn around, which triggered a chain reaction. Students started to get closer as they were trying to get a better look.

Ethan sighed as this Evolved power was not his own. He thought his nose was playing a trick on him with this one. He was also very intrigued by her "Evolved power."

"I think you will work well with a weapon sword sickle," he suggested, watching the black smoke coil around her body.

"A sword sickle?" Madison asked as the smoke retracted.

"Yes," Ethan confirmed as he rubbed his chin. "I believe I have two in my collection. Just head back in the circle out of the walkways on the sides, and I'll run back and get it during class."

Madison nodded as she walked back within the class circle next to Emma.

"Now!" Ethan yelled so everyone could hear him again. "I want to see how many of you can figure out your weapon traits or skills. Most Becifers have abilities. These can transfer into their crystal, which makes Becifer weapons. Now, I will note that not all Becifers have unique abilities. That is why I am asking you to only see if you can activate the energy within a Becifer weapon. You may start now."

While the class started to do that, Ethan walked up to Jareth.

"What is your Evolved power?" he asked as he eyed the other person with a different smell, but also one that wasn't similar to Madison's.

Jareth didn't say anything for a moment before muttering, "I don't have an Evolved power?"

"You don't?" His expression turned to shock as he heard this. "Didn't they offer you one of three?"

"Yes," Jareth admitted. "Take no offense, but I don't want to be controlled by the Military as they hoard all of the books."

Ethan looked up as he thought about what Jareth explained to him.

"I see," said Ethan as he scratched his cheek, then his neck. "Don't tell anyone I told you this, but I have no loyalty to this faction."

"What?" Jareth wanted to know more. "Then why are you working for them?"

"I'm technically not," Ethan said like they were two best friends sharing secrets. "I'm technically a private contractor, but as far as everyone else is aware, I work for them. Let's just say someone has a good eye. Anyways, even if you don't have an Evolved power, what weapon do you have an eye—"

Before he could even finish, Jareth gave his answer.

"Longsword."

Ethan paused as he took a long look at Jareth before he spoke again.

"You seem like you know what you want, and there are plenty of swords on the walls. Why don't you just take one?"

"None of them feel right," he said as he looked around the room. "I just can't connect with one. None of them feel powerful."

Jareth touched the sword on the wall, and nothing happened. He was trying to get a reaction from the so-called Sword Saint by not feeling for the right sword.

"I doubt he'll do anything special for you," said Apollo. "To him, you're just a student."

"I mean, they're all only Simple-tier weapons," Ethan explained. "They range from low to high. You can just pick one now to use."

Jareth looked around for a moment when he noticed once more the sword on Major Ethan's back. Then he got an idea.

"Major Ethan," he began. "May I hold your sword?"

Ethan's eyes furrowed as he processed what the young student said.

"You want to touch my sword?"

"Yes," Jareth said as he tried to think of a good reason. "I want to know what sword I can try to buy or make when I get the funds."

Ethan seemed to be pondering about this before he decided that there was no harm in it.

"Alright," he confirmed as he took the sword and scabbard off of his back.

"I guess he did," the god noted.

Major Ethan handed over the sword to Jareth.

This doesn't look that fancy, Jareth thought as he frowned. He reached out for the sword and scabbard.

Ethan saw the frown on Jareth's face.

He must have thought the sword that I mostly use would be fancy, the Major thought. It is just a Simple-tier weapon. I guess he just wanted to see my sword.

He smiled as he thought the student just made an excuse to see his sword, but his face changed when Jareth held onto it.

"Congratulations," the system announced. "You are in possession of a Simple high-tier weapon used by the Sword Saint, Ethan Reyes. This weapon has power on it that the Draven system can extract. Would you like to acquire the "Evolved Swordsman" Trade?"

Jareth's eyes widened and his mouth dropped as he saw the notification that the system was showing. He never thought he could get another Trade this early. He quickly selected yes before it went away.

"You have now acquired the "Evolved Swordsman" Trade. Your single permanent trade slot is full, so the trade will be placed in the switchable trade slot. You only have one switchable trade, and the "Evolved Swordsmanship" Trade will be equipped. The system is starting to analyze the Trade. Use the Trade more so the system can learn more."

A Trade dedicated to the sword, Jareth thought excitedly as he unsheathed the Simple-tier weapon. I'll be a sword master in no time.

"I honestly didn't know that was a way to get a Trade," Apollo chimed into his thoughts. "I just assumed that yours was just tied to god-type trades."

Is there really something special about my sword? the Sword Saint thought. He didn't get excited when he touched the other swords, but mine… Is he one of those with the touch of Becifer weapons?

Jareth twirled the sword as he swung once or twice before he stopped and looked at Ethan.

"Thank you, sir," Jareth said.

Ethan thought the student was referring to him just touching the sword, but secretly he was referring to the Trade that he got.

"You're welcome," Ethan said as he made up his mind. "You know what? You can keep the sword."

"What?" Jareth said as he was slightly shocked at what Ethan said.

"You can keep it," the Major said again. "I have never seen somebody get excited over my Simple-tier sword before. I'll be glad that someone who seems to really like the sword has it." He finished his last words mid-turn as he walked away, not even giving Jareth a chance to properly thank him.
