Chapter 1 - Watching the falling rain

Thunderstorms in the horizon yet the movements in the city paid no heed to the coming rain. As if accustomed to the stormy weather, the people simply prepared their raincoats and umbrellas. With the falling of rain, sounds of activity were quickly drowned out by the thunder and raindrops hitting the ground. A figure could be seen rushing, a contrast to the slow walking populace who were mindful of the splashing of water on the hem of their coats. The figure was drenched from head to toe whether out of forgetfulness to prepare for the rain or ignorant of the biting cold they ran until they stopped at a nearby cafe staring through the glass window. In the establishment could be seen numerous people drinking their warm drinks with an urge to escape the cold creating a cozy atmosphere, the figure's reflection could partially be seen, it was an 18 year old girl her clothes tightly adhered to her skin. She wore a hoodie as if a protection from the cold yet her reckless actions of sprinting across the rain contrasted her form of self care.

Her long blonde hair cascaded down to her hips yet with the rain continuously hitting her body they became increasingly messy further enhancing her disheveled appearance. Her dark pupils reflected the scenery within the cafe yet the scene she witnessed made her pupils tremble. Within the cafe she saw her long time friend enjoying a cup of tea with her crush, such a scene could be regarded as a misunderstanding as it seemed it was just two girls enjoying tea amidst the rain yet for her who knew both of them; one her best friend, the other her unrequited love, how could she not see the love they had for each other. As if trying to deny the sight before her eyes she frantically rubbed them with her wet sleeve yet as if confirming reality the two in the cafe kissed shyly, a momentary peck on the lips yet within that instant something within her shattered . Raindrops concealed her ever dropping tears yet her cries which sounded heart wrenching were quickly drowned out by the thunder as if her emotions and feelings were merely insignificant . She quickly fled as if being chased by her worst fears, her vision blurred by t he rain and tears flowing down her cheeks caused her to stumble down the hard pavement scalding her knees yet ignorant of the pain she kept running.

She arrived in a park yet everywhere her gaze swept memories surged up of her time spent with her best friend Nina and her crush Mona as if mocking her for not realizing it sooner that betrayal comes most often from those close to us. Each event swept past her mind of the trios adventures, each time she ignored the various signs that hinted at something far deeper amidst their relationships and now standing near the lake where she told Nina of her crush on Mona, Nina's reluctant cheer for her to succeed in confessing as if mocking her for thinking she had a chance. All this overwhelmed her youthful heart, heavy emotions pervaded her heart with dark thoughts pervading her declining will to live. Staring at the lake which rippled with each raindrop disappearing into the surface of the lake as if encouraging her to no longer endure, as if all the pain would disappear into the lake like the raindrops.

Just as she was about to take a step the rain began receding, the rays of the evening sun brightly shone as the lake surface began to calm. Realizing what she was about to do Kate fell backwards onto the moist grass, the evening sun reflected off the lake creating a magnificent sight with the lake shining with a golden luster. The glow reflected off her dark pupils giving them a golden colour, with each passing second her previously painful heart gradually calmed down and her turbulent emotions began to settle as she embraced the beautiful sight. Her body gradually relaxed with the previous tension disappearing she couldn't help but fall asleep her lone figure sleeping on the grass as if blessed brought back the chirping of birds and the liveliness the city.
