Chapter 1 - A normal engineering student

Li Heng college life was determined by schedules

Morning lectures, afternoon practical labs or lectures and late night caffeine burnouts from the revisions and sessions. He was an engineering student, ordinary, replaceable and insignificant.

He worried about money more than grades. About internships more than ideals. His phone alarms dictated his existence more reliably than any sense of purpose.

Fortunately for Li Heng, he had several friends that had help in his college life:

Ren Yen- His study partner in class

Ren Yen: "Check this out, I passed my mid-term test"

Tang Yong Sheng- His other study partner and a member of the college's basketball team.

Tang Yong Sheng: "Hey, Li Heng. Care for a basketball match?" He always asks that when he has time

Qi Chen Xian- His club friend from the engineering club

Qi Chen Xian: "If you collapse during class, don't say I didn't warn you. Come on, breakfast first."

The four of them sat together in the cafeteria, laughing over trivial complaints about homework and group assignments

until a commotion happens at the center of the cafeteria.

A handsome young man stood in front of a beautiful girl, calm and composed. Opposite him was a so-called young master from some business sector, his underlings bruised and retreating.

The confrontation ended without violence. The young master backed away. Applause erupted. The girl looked at the man with admiration.

Li Heng recognized him.

Huang Bai Zhe. A former friend.

Once a normal student however transformed into a handsome, talented, charismatic person within a month.Or three weeks...…Li Heng couldn't tell anymore

Formerly the two of them exchanges opinions on multiple things- Work, club activities and anime. Time passes on, Bai Zhe just moved on and so does Li Heng

As another day passes, Li Heng waved his friends goodbye and somehow escaped from Yong Sheng's grip. He hastily walks across the streets and back to his home

The city was alive with normalcy: news stations broadcasting, advertisements flashing, billboards promoting the Zhong family's pharmaceutical empire, and posters for the girl band 'Shining Star' upcoming performance. Ordinary. Quiet. Mundane.

It was normal, quiet and mundane however as he was looking at his phone, he accidentally bumped into an elderly person and his orange cart.

Li Heng: "Damn it…" He muttered to himself before approaching the elderly person and picking up the oranges

Li Heng: "I'm sorry, old man. Are you hurt?"

Elderly person: "Oh, I'm fine young man. I should have been more cautious"

After picking them all up, Li Heng was about to leave before the elderly man stopped him

Elderly person: "Wait! Take this"

*He gave Li Heng a ring- A golden one in fact

Li Heng stunned, he don't wanted to but his instinct told him to take it and eventually he told it and thanked the man

*As both of them parted way, the Elderly person began smirking as he placed the orange cart into a store

'Elderly person': "I gave you this chance now, don't disappoint me" He said as he slowly walks away from the streets

Once at home, Li Heng packed his things and the ring onto the table before leaving it for the day

(Another mundane day…) He though to himself as he began revision after his dinner with his family and other things

As pressure built behind his eyes ,dull and constant. He rubbed his temples and blamed sleep deprivation, not noticing about the ring faint glow of light before vanishing instantly
