Chapter 1 - The Sun

A boy was seating in the back of the class, head raised down on the table. He seemed to be asleep. The class which he was in-was already a mess-with students playing with paper and chit chatting even when the teacher was giving lectures.

"Lumian! stand up quickly." The teacher said abruptly.

The boy who had short-wavey hair-the kind that looked like those from the steampunk era-raised his head slowly and stood up,as the other students whispered to each other.

"Someone is going to get in trouble." They said in unison.

"You were sleeping throughout the entire class," the teacher said in a rage."if I ask you a single question,I bet you'll give me a rubbish answer!"

Lumian still feeling sleepy, rubbed his eyes and replied calmly,"But teacher I'm not the only one who's disturbing the class, just look at them."

He then pointed to a pair at the front who were busy, folding paper airplanes.

The teacher sighed as she adjusted her glasses,"At least their grades are better than yours!...now get back on your seat and don't let me see you sleep again."

Lumian sighed as he slumped back into his chair.

----

The bell eventually rang after, signaling the end of class. Lumian pulled out his phone and started reading a novel. He was not the kind who normally relates to people,he was basically the shy and timid type.

He removed his gaze from the novel and looked around the classroom. His gaze then fell on a boy who had his hand under the desk, moving in the same type of motion we boys all know.

Another couple at back were quite busy, their hands moving with calculated 'precision' under the table. Lumian having seen enough looked away.

He wasn't at all surprised-because it wasn't his first time seeing these things. The environment of the so called school "Harport high"-was a place filled with delinquents, prostitutes, dropouts and other people who had already given up on life.

It wasn't a place you'll want your children to be-unless of course you can't pay for better.

"Tsk...the teacher can't even see the others. Always me."

A soft voice then broke his thoughts.

"Hello."

He raised his head up. A girl with long blue hair tied back, wearing glasses and a sweater under her uniform which outlined her very good figure stood before Lumian. She didn't look like the other students-but rather the smart kind.

"Dorothy." Lumian said, immediately smiling like he had just seen a long lost relative. "How are you enjoying the day?"

She gave a sweet smile and said. "My day's going quite well-I would say."

She then handed him a book shyly. "I finished the book! It was really interesting-i absolutely loved it!"

Lumian chuckled taking the book from her. "I knew you would. It's actually one of my favorites."

"So what should we read next!?" She asked eagerly not even bothering to hide her anticipation.

Lumian scratched his head awkwardly. "Well I've already started a novel. Im not sure you can catch up."

Dorothy folded her arms as she pouted.

"You meanie. You already started without me!"

Lumain laughed and gently stroked her head."Dorothy,it's not like that. I just didn't expect you to finish the other one so quickly."

"Why wouldn't I?it's you who gave it to me." She then paused and turned red realizing what she had just said.

"Ah-just forget it."

She then gave him a playful punch on the shoulder and stormed off.

Lumian watched her go as his lips then formed a confused smile. " 'Women'....the most confusing species on earth."

He then stood up and leaned against the wall staring at the window. The golden bright glow falling on his face.

"How I wish I can just be free-free like the sun... free of all of life burdens."

He rested fully on the window and rested one hand on the railing and the other on his cheek.

"My parents died four years ago and it's kinda me who's taking responsibility of everything now-including my younger sister."

He then let out a small scoff.

"Although! my older brother is really helping a lot..his kinda the one who made enough money for me to attend this school."

He then chuckled. "Guess I'm not completely alone."

He raised his hands towards the sun as if he wanted to catch it. "Fate is pretty confusing-some are destined to have great lifes and some are.....well destined to be poor like me."

Just then, the students stood up. "Good morning,Mr Walter!"

"Good morning students! Hope you all slept well?"

"Yes sir! We are all full of energy." The students replied cheerfully.

Lumian then sat back on his seat,as the teacher started his lecture. And as expected Lumian didn't quite pay attention to the lectures,he was simply staring outside the window again, lost in his thoughts.

Just then something unexpected happened-the sunlight dimmed. Slowly the world darkened. The normal golden glow of the sun had now been replaced by a crimson blood color.

"What the hell."
