Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A High-Ranked Monster a Thousand Times Stronger Than Vulcan

Year X784, Kingdom of Fiore.

Deep within the frozen reaches of Mount Hakobe, an open stretch of snow and ice lay silent and empty.

Snowflakes whirled in the wind as the figure of a handsome boy stood still in the clearing. He wore a long robe as white as freshly fallen snow, and his long, silver hair danced with the blizzard, revealing silver-glossed pendant earrings that swayed with every gust.

The boy was now called Geno. Although he currently lived in the world of Fairy Tail, he had actually crossed over into it two years ago.

The name he had used in his original world sounded awkward here in this Fairy Tail world, so he had simply changed it to the one he used now.

Like most people who transmigrated, Geno had received his own special traveler's benefit.

The five Great Magic Eyes from the anime Legend of the Legendary Heroes.

Copy Eye, Annihilation Eye, Dreamshift Eye, Future Eye, Grudge Eye.

Right now...

Not far in front of Geno, a beast shaped like a giant wolf was charging straight toward him.

Its massive body was covered from head to toe in densely packed blades of ice, like countless frozen swords jutting from its fur. Each step it took sent ripples trembling across the ground. Its bloodthirsty eyes and the gaping maw of its jaws were locked firmly onto Geno standing in the center of the clearing.

It was an Icefang Snow Wolf.

A high-ranked monster that dwelled on Mount Hakobe. Its strength far surpassed the low-level monster Vulcan that Natsu had encountered on this very mountain in the anime, by not just a thousand times, but far beyond that.

If it was a fully grown Icefang Snow Wolf, its strength would be tens of thousands of times greater than that of a mere low-level Vulcan.

Judging by the size of this Icefang Snow Wolf, it was very clearly an adult.

"Waaahroar..."

With a violent, piercing howl, the Icefang Snow Wolf closed the distance to barely ten meters from Geno.

Yet Geno's face held only an easy, leisurely expression, as if he did not place this gigantic beast in his eyes at all.

"Crack."

The wolf's enormous jaws snapped shut directly over Geno's head, its bloody maw about to swallow him whole.

Just as it was about to clamp down and devour him in a single bite, Geno lazily flicked his hand.

His figure vanished on the spot, leaving the giant Icefang Snow Wolf to bite nothing but air.

The huge beast snarled, lips pulled back to reveal sharp fangs as it twisted its body around. It lifted its gaze toward the sky above, but no matter where it looked, it could not find even the slightest trace of Geno.

"I heard you've been lurking on this mountain for over a hundred years. I just had to come and see you for myself, so don't disappoint me."

In the next instant, Geno's figure appeared in midair.

He raised both hands slightly, and the ambient magic in the area began to gather around him at high speed.

"Flame Magic, Modified Form... Crimson Devouring Storm."

A tremendous amount of ambient magic condensed around Geno's hands. As he lifted his right hand toward the sky, a large-scale flame magic circle rapidly formed in midair.

The wildly blazing flames erupted from the circle like a storm and hurtled straight toward the enormous Icefang Snow Wolf at terrifying speed.

In the two years since arriving in this world, Geno had used the power of the Copy Eye to duplicate a great many spells, especially fire-type magic.

On top of that, he had used the Copy Eye to alter the formulas of the magic he copied, transforming ordinary spells into far stronger ones that were more suitable for himself.

"Boom..."

Sensing the oncoming inferno, the enormous Icefang Snow Wolf whipped its head toward the approaching flame storm.

It was already too late.

The raging storm of fire poured over its entire body, from its head all the way down to every part of its frame, in the blink of an eye. In moments, the huge Icefang Snow Wolf was swallowed completely by the sea of flames.

"Thud..."

Amid a billowing surge of blackish-blue smoke, the giant beast crashed heavily onto the frozen ground.

"High-ranked monster or not, you may have gained a bit of intelligence, but you're still no match for humans in the end."

Looking at the Icefang Snow Wolf sprawled so pitifully on the ground, Geno's lips curved into a faint smile.

"Can't you feel the difference in our power?"

"If you'd had a bit of self-awareness earlier, you might at least have created a chance to run away."

Geno gently lifted his hands again, and the ambient magic surged toward him even faster.

At this moment, a small magic storm rose around his body, spiral currents of ether swirling at his feet and shoulders.

"Waaahroar..."

"Waaahroar..."

The Icefang Snow Wolf lying on the ground suddenly let out a series of hoarse howls. Every single icy blade on its body stood on end, and the energy inside it began to gather frantically.

"Waaahroar..."

Dragging its wounded body, the beast slowly pushed itself up to stand, rage evident in every movement. Its bloodthirsty gaze locked firmly onto Geno hovering in midair.

"Waaahroar..."

With that roar, a massive wave of white energy burst out from its gaping jaws, the force of it making the entire mountainside tremble.

The enormous white wave shot directly toward Geno's position, devouring the distance between them in an instant.

"A final struggle? Completely meaningless."

Watching the wave of white energy rush toward him, Geno looked utterly calm, with not the slightest intention of dodging.

"Flame Magic, Modified Form... Heaven-scorching Crimson Flame Tempest."

As the white energy wave drew closer and closer, only then did Geno's lips curl in an amused smile.

He thrust his right hand toward the oncoming blast. A massive flame magic circle bloomed before him, and from its center a gigantic storm of fire surged forth, rising like a towering inferno dragon.

"Boom..."

In the span of a heartbeat, the approaching white energy wave was swallowed and burned away completely by the colossal fire dragon.

Yet the power of the flaming vortex did not diminish in the slightest. It continued its advance, roaring straight toward the Icefang Snow Wolf.

Seeing this, the beast howled even louder, its voice echoing across the icy mountain.

Realizing that there was no longer any way to evade the oncoming destruction, it could only channel all of its remaining energy into the countless ice blades bristling from its body.

In the very next moment, those sword-like spines trembled violently, then launched outward all at once, as if a torrential rain of ice and snow had been unleashed straight at Geno.

"Boom..."

The firestorm dragon engulfed the Icefang Snow Wolf's body without the slightest suspense. In an instant, the beast lost all strength to resist and could only lie there, its body consumed by the raging flames.

On Geno's side...

Faced with the barrage of ice blades pouring toward him like a storm, he lightly stomped his foot.

A gigantic whirlwind erupted around him in an instant.

The massive tempest effortlessly blocked the rain of ice swords coming from all directions, shattering them to pieces and sending the fragments spinning away into the sky.

Through the gaps in the storm, Geno could see the Icefang Snow Wolf outside, already collapsed completely under the burning of the flame vortex, its giant body lying motionless on the ground.

"A high-ranked monster, but it seems quite ordinary. Against attacks like this, I haven't even used one-thousandth of my strength, and it's already over."

"Alright then, time to see if you're carrying the Ice Magic Lacrima I'm looking for."
