Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Weird Grimoire

Loud ringing echoes through the room, Arthur searches around his table finding his phone to turn off his alarm. He sits up and yawns loudly.

'I barely got any sleep because of that group project Mr. Clarke gave us.'

He exits his room and enters the bathroom across the hallway. He takes his toothbrush and starts to brush his teeth. A short figure with messy long black hair and light blue eyes can be seen in the mirror brushing his teeth. After brushing his teeth he goes downstairs and got some leftover pizza from the yesterday. After taking his bag, he exits his house and starts walking to the bus station.

It took him 10 minutes to reach the bus station. He went to sit down at one of the benches. Sitting there is a petite girl with long glistening blonde hair and hazel eyes engrossed in a novel.

'Hey Emilia, do you have the pen drive with you for the project.'

She gently turned over to look at Arthur.

'Yeah of course. We took so long to finish that project. there is no way i would forget it.'

Arthur smiled.

'Great. You still reading that horror novel? Hasn't it been a few months since you started reading that?'

She frowned.

'I would have finished it long ago, but it's too scary to keep reading so i just read a little a day.'

Arthur laughed loudly.

'Why did you even buy that novel if you get scared easily.'

She pouted.

'Hmph! If you are so confident go buy it and read it then. It is more scarier than you think. And plus, I thought horror novels would be less scarier than movies.'

Arthur laughed again.

'You know i have never been scared of horror movies. Novels and movies changes nothing abt the story. A good writer can write scary stories even if there is only words.'

She thought for a while.

'I guess that is true.'

'Oh the bus is almost here, let's go.'

They both stood up and waited for the bus to stop. They both entered the bus and walked towards the back. They sat down at the back next to a boy and a girl. Both of them had brown eyes and messy brown hair. They were both playing the same video game.

Arthur took a look at their phone screen..

'Hi Evan, Eva, What's that? A new game you guys picked up in the weekends?'

Both of them still engrossed in their game, said to him while still looking at the screen.

'Yeah. Its an rpg game we found online on Saturday. It got popular quickly after the release. We played all night after finishing the project.'

Emilia looked over.

'You guys should stop staying up so late to play games. You guys keep falling asleep in class.'

They both frowned.

'We will stop. Just after we finish this game.'

Emilia sighed.

'That's what you guys said last time.'

They both looked away.

'Well this time for sure. We will definitely stop.'

Emilia sighed again.

'Yeah sure.'

After 15 minutes, they arrived at school.'

A huge gate is at the entrance of the school. Multiple modern buildings are in the school, each being used for different purposes. The four of them went in the main building where their classes are located, and went to their class.

They all sat down at their seats in the back of the classroom.

Arthur looked over at the empty seats beside him.

'Is Elias and Elena not here yet?'

Emilia thought for a while.

'Well Elena takes the bike to school so she will probably be a little later than us, and Elias said he had some stuff to do at home so he would be late to school today.'

Arthur laughed softly.

'It's a little weird without Elias here. He always arrives to school early to study and revise.'

Emilia chuckled a little.

'Yeah, you're right.'

Evan looks over.

'Sorry to disrupt your sweet conversation but what is the first period again?'

Emilia turned over with a bright red face and said.

'I already told you guys we don't have that kind of relationship. And it's math for the first period, how do you even forget. You guys hate our math teacher the most.'

Evan worriedly said.

'WHAT!! I forgot to bring the math textbook. I am so going to get scolded by our teacher again.'

Emilia sighed.

'You should really learn from Elias a bit.'

Evan laughed.

'Never in a million years am i ever becoming a nerd like him.'

Emilia turned back over and took out her books .

'Class is about to start soon. You should turn back to the front.'

Evan turned back into the front and took out a notebook and a pencil case.

After a few minutes, the teacher entered the class. Everyone listened to the class intently. Until suddenly, the door opened. A girl with short black hair with amber eyes and a boy with blonde hair with blue eyes and glasses entered the classroom.

The teacher called out to both of them.

'Elias, you can just go to your seat. Your father called me and explained just now. But Elena, why are you late?

She looked away from the teacher.

'Well, I kind of overslept today. Sorry..'

The teacher frowned after hearing that.

'Alright, since it's your first time being late. I'll give you a chance.'

Elena smiled happily .

'Really?? Thanks teacher.'

She walked towards her seat and sat down.

Arthur looked over towards Elias.

'Why are you late today.'

Elias frowned and answered.

'Well you know how my parents are busy, my mom had to go to work early and my dad had to pick up my sister from the airport but he couldn't leave me at home so i had to go to the airport and then come to school.'

Arthur laughed and replied.

'At the bright side, you have parents that are willing to bring you to school. Mine disappeared long ago and left me alone.'

Elias frowned and answered trying to brighten his mood

'They'll definitely come back some day. They definitely had a reason for disappearing.'

Arthur looked over and smiled.

'Yeah, your right.'

After classes were over, it was recess. All the students ran across the hallway to the canteen, trying to get to the queue early before the lines get too long. Arthur took his lunch box with the leftover pizza and went to reheat it in the oven. After reheating, he went to sit beside Emilia, along with his other friends.

He started eating his pizza while they all talked about random stuff.

Emilia stared at the pizza.

'Isn't that pizza from yesterday.'

Arthur answered her.

'Yeah, I couldn't finish the pizza yesterday.'

Arthur looked at all of them and asked.

'Do you guys want to come to my house for a sleepover next week during the summer break.'

They all stopped talking and glanced over at him. Emilia answered first.

'Yeah, of course. Tell me the day and time at the group chat later. I'll make plans for it.'

Evan and Eva answered next.

'A sleepover? Of course we are gonna be there. It's been so long since our last sleepover. It's gonna be so much fun.'

Elias answered after.

'Yeah sure. My mom and dad wont be home during most of the summer break so they don't really mind me going anywhere.'

Elena answered last.

'I should be able to go. As long as my parents allow me to that is.'

Arthur grinned.

'Great. I'll tell you guys the date later.'

After recess, they went back to class. After 2 hours, school finally ended. The bell ringed across the school, All the students went from being tired and gloomy to excited and energetic. They all packed their bags and got ready to leave. The hallways were crowded with students and teachers hurriedly trying to go home. Many students were waiting for the bus at the bus station. Elena rode off with her bike and Elias is waiting for his father. Arthur and the others got on the bus and sat at the back again. After a lot of random chatter, Arthur and Emilia Arrived at their stops. They both got off the bus.

They both walked for a while along the pavement until Emilia reached her house.

'Bye Arthur, see you tomorrow.'

Arthur smiled softly.

'Yeah, Bye.'

Arthur walked for another 5 minutes to reach his house. He put down his bag an went to the kitchen to cook something to eat for dinner. After eating, he went to his room and played some games on his laptop.

After a while, he thought about something.

'Oh right, I remember I had some board games in the attic. We could use that for the sleepover.'

He stood up and went to the attic. There was cobwebs, dust and items everywhere. After looking around for some time, he found the board games under a chest.

'Why is there a chest here?'

He took the board games from underneath the chest. He was curious of what was in the chest, so he opened it. There was a huge book inside, on it reads "The Grimoire Of The Forsaken".

'What is this huge book doing in a chest.'

Arthur sighed.

'It must be some antique my parents left behind before leaving. I might be able to sell it for some money.'

He took the board games and the book to his room and put it on his table. He laid on his bed a prepared to sleep. After some time, he fell asleep soundly.
