Chapter 38 - Opening portal

[Music Recommendation "Bésame Mucho]

Eiravyn stepped down from the car first, followed by Caspian, before Serena door was pulled open by Eiravyn. Caspian had actually wanted to pull the door for her thinking Eiravyn will not think of doing it for her,

But then again he was surprised to see his king behave like a gentleman.

When Serena came down from the car, the sight that graced her eyes was that of a thick and dark forest with thick trees.

By the time they got there it was already late in the evening making the whole mood and vibe of the forest look eerie and ominous.

Serena's eyes widened as she stared in shock, she turned to look at Eiravyn confused,

"Do we have to pass through here, Eiravyn?" Serena asked, she felt scared by the darkness of the forest even though she felt secured with Eiravyn's presence, she still wanted to be sure they were at the right place.

"Yes kitten, don't worry I'm here to protect you from any dangers." Eiravyn said smiling ruefully,

The line sounded cheesy to Caspian, as he thought he had been eating dog food throughout today.

Caspian sighed and made his way into the dark forest,

Serena eventually took an hesitating step behind him with Eiravyn trailing behind her like a shield.

As she ventured deeper into the forest, Serena looked around her at the trees and leaves in the darkness, the trees looked twisted and gothic. The branches of the trees looked like tiny fingers reaching for the sky.

The more she walked the more the path grow narrow, and the darkness closes in around her like a shroud. She never thought a place like this existed in the human realm, where she had been living all her life, as she thought that even if this place existed she thought it would be a restricted zone. And no human would dare venture into this place because of the vibe of the place.

Serena turned to ask Caspian,

"Is this forest restricted to humans?"

Caspian was shocked that she had finally asked him a question, as her attention has been directed at Eiravyn the whole time, turned to look at his king, wondering if he should reveal the truth about the place. when he got a nod from him he finally answered,

"Yes, your highness, this place is strictly restricted to humans, if you pay close attention to the front of the forest when we started walking here, you will see a warning sign of danger placed there to warn humans,"

He paused to let her feel the gravity of his words,

"But some ignorant humans still dare to tour this place at night from just their mere curiosity. it is reported that wolves venture into this realm at night, and hunt for their prey in this forest as no human that ever venture here made it back alive." Caspian was carried away with his tales and he said something he was not supposed to say. He quickly said to Serena,

"Not that you have anything to be worried about as you have the great vampire king and me protecting you. No wolf can be able to withstand Eiravyn's aura." He finally said making Serena release the breath she had been holding all along when he started talking.

As if on cue, Serena suddenly heard a howling sound that she could guess was coming from a pack of wolves, she stiffened in her place, when she felt Eiravyn's arms around her shoulders.

"Don't listen to what this lousy man say, there is nothing to fear." He assured her.

The air grew colder, and the wind grew stronger as they continued their journey, the silence was now more aggressive, causing Serena to shiver, the creaking of the trees was now intense as the wind carried the scent of decay, of death, and of ancient crumbling stone.

To distract herself from the noise and the scent of decayed grass and decayed flesh in the air and of moss. Serena decided to ask the very question that has been disturbing her.

"Why do you keep calling me your highness, even when I'm not yet appointed as your queen?"She asked Caspian but this time Eiravyn answered the question.

"That's how you will be addressed from now on. little kitten, you need to get use to it from now on."

But Serena was not comfortable with the title, at least not yet,

"But i want him to address me by my name Serena, and not like that, it's making me uncomfortable." Serena said her face beet red with embarrassment, Eiravyn could see this because his eyes could see in the dark like it was day.

"If it is making you uncomfortable then it can't be help, but when we get to the vampire kingdom you have to get use to it, okay?"

Serena nodded her head.

They walked a long distance when Eiravyn finally declared to her that they have reached the place. Serena stare in disbelief with her mouth agape.

'Is this really the place.' She muttered to herself, as she stared at the place with disbelief as the place was still surrounded in bushes, don't tell me this is where witches lived? this is just ridiculous, Serena thought.

As she turned to ask Eiravyn, she finally noticed that the air around them had grown cold and the aura was stifling, she felt chills all over her body making her turn to look at Eiravyn, she looked at his eyes,

His eyes that use to be green has changed to bright gold color, Serena took a step back in shock, this almost looked like her dream but this time he was standing.

She noticed that he was glowing now with a bright blue and purple light, he looked like a god, Serena could not believe her eyes, as she stared at him in shock.

Within seconds, Serena saw Eiravyn stretch out his hands forward, she saw what looked like crystal sphere grow in his hands from no where, and before she knew it the tiny crystal sphere coalesced into a vertical slit, the slit expanded outward, revealing a swirling vortex of bright gold color.

Eiravyn's eyes suddenly flashed with an otherworldly energy as he channeled more of his powers into the already formed vortex. The vortex deepened, taking on a life of it's own, until it formed a massive, glowing gold portal.

Eiravyn stepped back as the portal took on it's form on it's own without him saying any spell or doing anything.

The portal soon responded, as it's edges finally stabilized, revealing a shimmering gateway to another realm. Eiravyn finally withdrew his hands,

"This will take us to the witch kingdom, although I can create this to take us to the vampire kingdom instead, but the distance from here to the vampire kingdom is still quite far compare to the witch coven. So, its better to go there." Eiravyn explained patiently to Serena.

But the girl was too stunned to speak, Serena could not believe what just happened as she stared at the portal.

"This…"

She softly muttered as if in a daze, Serena walked closer to the portal as she looked at what looked like shimmering waters, she stared at the portal as if hypnotized as she moved to touch the portal.

Eiravyn quickly held her hands, "you can't do that kitten, this is a portal if you get so close you might get suck into a different realm." Eiravyn said as he pulled her to him.

Eiravyn stretched his hands again to the portal, and within seconds he reset the nuts on the portal to take them to the witch coven.

The place that was once shrouded with darkness and blackness now shine with a bright gold light, making it look like it was morning, Serena could not believe her eyes as she looked around the place. It feels like she had seen a miracle in real life, she thought, before she heard Eiravyn's deep voice,

"I want you to go first, to ensure my mate safety." Eiravyn ordered Caspian which he gladly agreed.

In the next moment Caspian took a step forward to the shimmering gateway, he walked nonchalantly to the portal like he was use to it and within a minute Caspian vanished inside the portal.

The portal remained even after Caspian disappeared into it, pulsing with energy as it await the next traveler.

Serena gasps, blinking her eyes slowly to check if she had seen it correctly, she only saw this kind of thing in movies, never in her wildest dreams did she think she would witness a thing like this.

She stared now at the empty spot where Caspian once stood, mesmerized when she heard Eiravyn's steady voice.

"It's our turn, kitten." He said as he reached for her hands.

"Are we going together?" Serena asked confused, she thought only one person could enter at a time.

"Yes kitten, I can't have you venturing there on your own." He said, and reached for Serena's hands again, this time Serena boldly offered her hands, looking solely at Eiravyn's eyes.

She saw the reflection of the portal in Eiravyn's now green eyes, she stared at his eyes in a daze, before she could process what was happening they had been sucked into the witch coven territory.

When they entered, the portal immediately disappeared after fulfilling it request, surrounding the now empty forest in darkness.
