'Is this really it?'
Red moonlight flowed from the crimson moon, casting a faint light over the ruins. What had once been a city was now no more than rubble on the road. Blood ran thick and sticky beneath the fallen boulders, its iron scent heavy in the air. A constant reminder of what happened. People lay scattered, all still without the slightest movement. Creatures flying in the sky, too big to be birds.
'Why did this happen? Why can't I save anyone?'
I wanted to give up. Wanted to die. Finally, be in peace from this hell that people call earth. But I knew that was nothing but a mere dream. Afterall I am the only one who will continue, bearing these memories.
'No, I can't give up!'
If I give up here all the things I sacrificed will be for nothing. I slowly rose from my kneeling position. Jaw tight. Heart pounding. I stood taking the sword that had loosened from my grip. With a steady pace I moved forward. Numb but not unbearable. A slight ringing in my ears.
Bump. Bump. Bump.
Three reptile-like creatures landed in front of me. Their bodies slick like a snake. Scales green as the dense forest. Pupils like that of a wild cat. Teeth sharper than any sword, drenched in dark blood. From one angle they looked like majestic creatures who ruled the skies as they flapped their thin wings. On the other terrifying enough to kill with a mere sight.
Before they could attack, I rushed forward. Tightening the blade in my palm I prepared to strike. I knew it was a meaningless fight, but if I could just take one of them down that would be enough. But before I could reach, something slammed my back. Already on the ground before I had time to register it. A huge shadow fell over my face. A hot breath dripping with saliva. I knew this was it for me. That I was going to die. But that didn't mean it was the end. The heat slowly left my body and my breath became uneven. Closing my eyes one last time, I muttered softly.
"This time… I'll do it all by myself."
