Chapter 1 - Chapter one

What the hell is wrong with you? Why are you here?" A man glared at a little boy who was holding onto his leg, the disdain in his eyes was evident. With a sneer, he tries to free hisself from the clutch of the child, cruelly kicking him aside. "Get lost brat!"

Julian, upon seeing the actions of her husband immediately rushed over to carry the child sprawled on the ground. "Williams, how can you be so heartless to our child?"

Williams openly glared at her. "Our child? This brat! Get him out of here, his presence is embarrassing." he sips from the champagne glass in his hand.

There was a party currently happening and everyone was engrossed with the conversations and socializing that no one noticed the pair in a corner.

Julian held her son in her arms and looked around, she didn't want to be present, she felt out of place. "Can we leave now?" shee asked with a persuasive tone.

"Why should I leave? This is my aunt's birthday party and if you've suddenly forgotten, I seem to be the guest of honor so this is my party." Williams gloated.

This is one of the reasons why Julian wanted to leave, she might be Williams's wife but that was in paper alone, no one ever took her serious. Instead she was taken as a pauper that was trying to climb up the ladder of society to increase her status.

After an hour, Julian understood that everyone were dressed in one of their best outfits, most of them were there to show off, intentionally presenting expensive gifts to show off their wealth and lobby favors from the celebrant but she was dressed in faded jeans and tee shirt, she looked out of place amongst everyone and most importantly, she had no worthy gifts to present.

"Jason is already tired-" Julian stated but her husband Williams cuts in midway.

"I never asked you to bring that burden along," He glared at the boy who is nestled in his wife's arms. "You should have left him at home. Didn't you understand my instructions?"

"No one is at home to take care of him."

"And why should I care? Why should I care about his well-being. Of all things, you had to come with a child to this party."

"This child is your son Williams, our son and you don't expect me to leave a five years old home alone just because of some stupid party that you're getting worked up about." One of his fist was clenched in anger as Julian tried to rein in his emotions.

All of suddenly, Williams throws the remaining champagne in his wife's face. "You lowlife creature have no right to admonish me, I'm getting myself worked up you say? News flash, if it weren't for you, I won't be in this dark corner drowning in my sorrows, I would be out there socializing with my friends and having the best time of my life." If Williams had the chance to change what happened that fateful night, he definitely would.

Julian stood aghast by his actions, her hair dripping with champagne, even Jason was completely confused by the happenings around him. "I think I've overstayed my welcome."

"Don't even think of walking out on me Julian whatever your previous last name is!" At that moment, the hall was silent and Williams's loud voice was heard by everyone.

Julian who had just taken a step stopped as all eyes fell on her and the enraged Williams. 'Holy Shit!' she swore inwardly, thinking of a means to leave but all would be futile under the gaze of everyone.

A man with a smirk on his face slowly approached them, he stood by Williams's side, taking one of his hands in his. "What is getting you so worked up, dearest Williams?" He said in a sweet tone that nauseated Julian.

Williams leaned on him, an aggrieved expression on his face. "Who else but her!" he pointed at Julian as a few drops of tears fell on his cheeks.

Williams was a handsome man with an alluring physic, he was the heartthrob of a lot of women in the city and when the news of his marriage broke out, a lot of women were heartbroken but knowing that he wasn't in support of the marriage, a lot of them simply didn't give up and one of such women was Isabel Andrews.

Isabel Andrews was one of Williams Scout admirers, one of the most fervent ones that didn't give up even after he had tied the knot with another woman and birth a child for him. Both of them always hung out together, treating Julian like she was inexistent and even when rumors spread about their relationship, none of them disputed it.

The tears on Williams's face tugged Isabel's heart and she gently wipes his face before turning to Julian. The gentle expression on her face took a 180 degree turn as she stared at Julian with anger. "What did you do to him?"

"I think the person you should ask is him." Julian replied nonchalantly. Just because there was no feelings attached in this marriage didn't mean that she appreciated the fact that he was having an affair with another woman.

"I'm asking you, so answer me!" Isabel ordered.

"What if I choose not to? My husband and I were having a private discussion and I think it's not in your place to get involved." Julian retorted.

"Who are you calling your husband? You couldn't even afford to get a proper gift for my aunt?" Williams sneered in her direction.

At this point, there were whispers and hushed conversation amongst the remaining guest, Julian really wanted to leave before the matter goes out of hand.

Julian was about to leave but Isabel quickly blocked her, her arms still around Williams. "And where do you think you're going to?"

"Step aside, a good dog doesn't block the road." Julian replied.
