Chapter 3 - Chapter three

As soon as she left, the party resumed it's usual glamour, Julian was pushed to the back of the minds of everyone, no one really cared about her as there were no benefits attached. As Julian walked away with nothing but Jason in her arms, no one could tell what she was thinking from her expressionless face, one of her hands was clenched in anger and frustration.

Upon arriving outside the venue, she quickly flagged down a taxi wanting to be away from the place immediately. She entered the taxi with her son and gave the driver her address. Getting home, she quickly ran a bath for her son and soon tucked him in bed.

"mummy," Jason called out to her with a smile as Julian tucked him in.

"Yes darling."

"Is daddy going to come see me?" he inquired with an hopeful look on his face.

"Daddy has to be somewhere else right now but I'm sure he'll come see you when he returns." Julian had no choice but to lie to her son seeing the expectant look on his face, she couldn't bear to crush his little expectation by telling him the truth so she had to lie again

… like she always does.

"Can I wait for him?"

"No sweetheart, it's past your bedtime. You have to get some sleep now." she placed a kiss on his forehead and dimmed the bedside lamp, not giving him a chance to say another word.

Jason smiled at her as she was leaving the room. "Goodnight mummy."

"Goodnight prince." A rare smile appeared on her face but as soon as she shut the door behind him, it was gone. Instead of walking away like she planned, Julian sat at the entrance of her son's room and was soon lost in thoughts.

She didn't know whether Jason was aware of her father's hatred for him but she tried to hide from him, Julian knew how much Williams hated Jason since he was the reason why they got married. Williams often referred to the boy as one of his mistakes, he never had a good word for him, never had he smiled in Jason's direction for once.

Williams visited the hospital where Julian gave birth with a cold expression in his eyes, it was void of the excitement that came with giving birth to a child.

"This is all your fault" he would glance at Julian every few seconds to blame her.

Before she could respond to him, a nurse entered the room with a baby in her arms. As she proceeds to show Williams the child, who would expect that he would scream. "Take him away! Take him out of here, I don't want to ever see him!."

The nurse Left with no other choice, Julian could only go and carry her child.

Julian Scout.

Hell, Scout wasn't even her last name, she couldn't recall her last name and all she remembered from her past was Julian.

She was nothing but a daughter in law who lived with her husband's family, endured their insults, with no family, no backers, she didn't even know when she was born or what her parents looked like. The only memory she could recall from the past was being raised in an orphanage, she didn't know how she got there and she was never adopted. When she eventually turned eighteen, she left to find a path for herself, to build a life for herself.

Five years ago, she and Williams's path crossed, they both got drunk and had a one night stand together. The next day, Williams left her without saying a word but his face expressed disgust for her.

Two weeks later, she completely forgot about the event until she started having some odd feelings that resulted to her running a pregnancy test, unfortunately it turned out positive.

Julian started making inquiries on how to locate the man responsible for her pregnancy,it turned out that Williams was one of the sons of the Scout family; an influential family and as a result of the passionate night they spent together. So her grandfather, the patriarch of the family insisted that she kept the child and also married him to prevent their family's name from being dragged in the mud.

Julian couldn't tell if she was happy about this arrangement, yes she wanted the child but she didn't want to get married to someone who looked down on her since they were not of similar social status.she had no choice but to agree. All the man cared about was his family's reputation and not Julian's opinion

With no other choice, Julian became a live-in daughter in law of the family, she had nothing to his name so he was looked down upon by everyone in the family, no matter what she did, she was never accepted. One of the conditions attached to the marriage agreement was that the pair had to stay together for five years before they could go their separate ways; Julian had completely forgotten about this and wouldn't have recalled it if not for her husband.

'Do not think that because of this dumb arrangement, we are going to fall in love and live happily ever after.'

'I do not ask for that, all I ask for is that you treat Jason well."

"Jason?" Williams laughed before he continued in a mocking tone. "That's what you called him? Boring. I don't care about that child so don't expect me to show him a little love."

Five years had passed and the couple would be going their separate ways, Julian began to wonder how she was going to explain this to her son. Williams was not entirely wrong when he stated that she relied on him, she couldn't keep a job because she had to raise a child all on her own. She had to endure the insults from Williams, his friends, his parents and other members of the family that disliked her.

With various thoughts on her mind, Julian fell asleep in the entrance of her son's room.
