Chapter 1 - Welcome to LA

Authors note:

As a general warning a couple of the earlier chapters will contain a good bit of info dumping to establish the setting of the fic in regards to the show.

Fair warning due to personal preference I have changed up the timeline quite heavily as you will see and altered some events which as we start I believe to be better than the beginning the show had and hopefully a better end.

[General Pov]

"Waaaah! Waaaah! Waaaah"

"Shhshhhshh"

Statistically on a plane passengers are most likely to do two things, One sleep through the flight.

Two... stay awake for bordering on twelve hours listening to a young parent soothe their crying baby.

"Not a good start LA"

Michael muttered for what felt like the 10th time in the last five minutes.

Turning his head out the window he could finally start to feel hope again as the aeroplane approached the airstrip after a twelve hour flight from London to Los Angeles.

-30 Minutes Later-

The midmorning sun was out in full force as civilians moved in and out of LAX, most seemed to be at home under the glare though there were definitely some more used to a milder climate.

"Screaming infants for 12 hours and now my luggage with my sunglasses has fucked off to neverland never to be seen again, this bullshit is definitely planned"

The man people were giving weird looks to as they passed by grumbling to himself is Michael Shaw, former SAS and previously a sergeant in the criminal investigation division at Interpol and now on loan to LAPD SWAT officially to build closer ties between the organisations and partake in a knowledge exchange of techniques and procedures.

Unofficially however was a different story, due to the previous SWAT captain transferring to the fbi and currently in need of a lieutenant as 10-David.

Michael was railroaded into the "promotion" by his superiors after a gang of bank robbers he was investigating petrol bombed multiple of his superiors homes after he caught the second in command of the crew.

"Cowards"

Michael grumbled as he made his way to the pickup area where he would be picked up by sergeant stevens, 71-david and get delivered to the temporary housing set up in the nearest hotel to swat hq.

[Michael's Pov]

"Lieutenant Shaw?" Stevens questioned with a raised hand.

"Sergeant Stevens" I greeted back as I shook his hand.

"You only packed carry on-on sir?" Stevens questioned after seeing me with only a backpack as we made our way to the car.

"Airport lost my luggage as seems to be the theme whenever I set foot outside the United Kingdom and Ireland " I joked back in a mock serious tone.

"Typical" He muttered back shaking his head as we found and entered the car.

"So how is it that a Sergeant I is the one picking up a fresh of the boat lieutenant like me hmm?" I asked giving a questioning look to the accompanying sergeant.

"70-david and 40-david are the 2 squads up today sir and as its been an uneventful morning so far, I volunteered to be the first to welcome our new 10-david to the city" Stevens replied as we weaved our way through the crowd.

"Well thank you for the warm reception" I nodded "It's definitely much appreciated though unnecessary" I continued.

"Well alongside wanting to welcome our new lieutenant properly we also didn't want to give you a first negative impression of the city by your first interaction with the locals being fleeced by a cabbie" Stevens joked back with a grin.

"So then" He started "Straight to the hotel or shall we go the scenic route to introduce you to the LA?" He questioned as we finally exited the carpark and entered the standard issue SWAT charger.

"Food first if you don't mind" I replied immediately "The last thing I ate was 13 hours ago thought I would sleep through the ride over, that didn't happen and some yobbo tipped the stewardess to give him all the remaining mini pretzels in stock so that was fun"

"There's a Scottish-fusion place not far from here" Stevens chuckled out after my mini rant.

"Perfect" I sighed out as we entered the freeway watching my new home go by through the window.

-15 Minutes Later-

"Haggis burgers huh" I commented leaving the restaurant.

"I take it fusion is less of a concept in the UK" Stevens added wiping his mouth with a napkin following me out.

"If its not fast-food or brown and in a bowl it'll be new to me" I joked back entering the charger.

-Command to 71-david do you copy-

"71-david copy" Stevens answered as he entered.

-71-david is 10-david with you?-

"Yes sir I'm here with the sergeant what's the situation?" I replied.

-There's a code 2 barricade situation at a convenience store a couple blocks from you, patrol has the single suspect pinned in the backroom with a single entry point but cant risk a breach with the hostage against the door, 40-david is en-route but is at least 15 minutes out-

"I don't have any of my gear until tommorow sir"

"There's an HTR in the back, master gunner always comes prepared" Stevens replied quickly as he reviewed the layout of the store sent by command.

-Well then Sergeant you with patrol will surround and distract the suspect while lieutenant finds his vantage point, a parking garage a few streets away with a clear view of the suspect through the window, patrol cant risk getting close to be able to take the shot with the hostage in play-

"On it sir" X2

"Let's go" Stevens said urgently as the sirens started going as we pulled out.

(2 Minutes Later)

[General Pov]

The charger screeched to a halt on the third floor of the parking garage as the two occupants stepped out and around to the boot of the car to tac up.

"Here" Stevens opened up the boot to reveal 3 sets of SWAT gear and other policing gear and handed over the HTR.

Michael had just finished pulling on the body armour and earpiece when Stevens handed him the rifle.

"Alright i'll post up here, corral him a foot further from the door and the hostage and I'll take the shot"

"Yes sir" Replied a fully swatted up sergeant stevens as he closed the boot and raced off to join the officers surrounding the building.

(2 Minutes Later)

*Inhale*

*Exhale*

While the myth that this breathing technique steadies your aim and increases accuracy is certainly false, the calming technique behind it is very much factual.

*Inhale*

Stevens had just joined up with patrol radio'd in -Patrols been filled in sir, we'll make entry on your mark-

*Exhale*

-Initiate in 3... 2... 1- Michael replied.

"Move in" Stevens relayed to the officers perched next to him as they entered the store.

"This is the LAPD we have the building surrounded, let the hostage go and come out peacefully" One of the officers called out.

"NO! YOU OR ANYONE BETTER NOT TAKE A SINGLE STEP IN HERE OR SOMEBODY'S BECOMING A STATISTIC AND IT WONT BE ME" The suspect screamed back as he shifted half a foot closer to the window.

-Little bit more-

"We will not ask again, let the hostage go and cooperate or we're coming in" The same officer called out.

"AND I SAID-"

"Gotcha"

*BANG*

*Glass shattering*

"BREACH" Stevens yelled as a rookie patrol officer used a ram and busted open the door to reveal a badly cut up hostage and the dead suspect.

-We're good lieutenant- Stevens relayed in after a couple of seconds and securing the area.

-Copy- Michael relayed back before calling in -Code 4 command, suspect down hostage secure-

-Not bad for fresh off the plane lieutenant- The commander remarked.

-No sir- Michael replied back

-And for the record, your still not on duty until tomorrow so I don't expect to see you anywhere but your hotel until then am I clear- Command clarified.

-Yes commander-

-Welcome to LA lieutenant-
