Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

Trenton's POV

Derek flashed me an easy smile. "Yeah, I guess not. I probably should have taken her elsewhere so we wouldn't be disturbed." It seemed like Derek was purposely trying to piss me off. Honestly, he probably was. I'd do the same damn thing.

I growled as Viola stepped between us. "Stop it!" She glared at us both. "I have two mates, which is hard enough without them both being assholes. Got it?" We each nodded as she looked at us. "Sweet Goddess you guys give me a headache."

She walked back to the pack house shaking her head. I knew I was being a tool but dammit I didn't like seeing Derek's hands all over her even if I did feel that I had to share. I gave him a quick glance and walked away also, heading to the pack guest quarters.

With all of the crap going on I had a feeling that Viola was probably in over her head. It seemed ridiculous that the Night Goddess would decide this as my fate. Being with someone and having to share her. It felt like a cruel joke.

And yet we both already loved her. That's how the mate bond works, you're helpless to it. Her pull is just as intense every time I am around her. I knew there was no going back, I couldn't reject her after spending as much time with her as I have. The mere thought had me gagging. And until she was marked by one or both of us these feelings would stay this intense.

I had no intention of marking her without Derek knowing as much as I disliked the guy. Well, maybe I didn't dislike him, but I sure as hell disliked sharing Viola.

I rubbed my forehead as I entered the guest house. It was a pretty large area, almost as big as the pack house even. It was similar to a hotel actually, and it fit every member of Trinity Pack with room to spare. There were a total of five of the guest houses, I knew that Shadow Pack was large, I had forgotten that they were in fact the largest pack on this side of the globe.

The largest pack used to be the Midnight Pack until they started killing off members in the pack for their abilities and growing lack of loyalty. Alpha Sigrid was known to be very cruel, and when the hunters started seeing aura's, well, from what my father told me, that was when everything went wrong. An open rebellion.

Other packs stepped in to help those who needed it, some became rogues, we hadn't heard from that pack in quite some time. I was sure that would change now that Alpha Drake has placed out an alpha call. It felt like I would need to come clean to Alpha Drake sooner rather than later, particularly since things are escalating, and if Alpha Sigrid ends up here and finds Viola, I was certain that we wouldn't be able to keep her safe. Hunter's have a different smell than other wolves if you know what to look for in someone's scent.

I tossed and turned most of the night and got maybe two hours of sleep before I couldn't take it anymore. I got out of bed and went to the courtyard. The sky was just breaking with the dawn. Sweat poured from my brow, the snow was melting even more. The grass Viola had been picking at yesterday was one of the first spots to completely clear of the snow.

"Morning jog?" My father asked as he approached me.

I shook my head no. "Just couldn't sleep." I turned and faced him. "We need to talk to Alpha Drake, tell him about me. About Avery."

He pinched his brows together. "Perhaps."

A howling pierced the air just then. It wasn't from pain, that much was sure. But it didn't seem joyful either. I ripped through the air as Trey took over with my father on my heels.

The howl came from the front gates. When we approached it was obvious the wolf was scared.

'What's wrong?' I tried to mind link with the unknown wolf.

'They're coming.' Her mind link was weak at best, she swayed and fell turning into a teenage girl with bite marks and bruises all over her body. My father was there with an over sized shirt and pants dressing her as she blacked out.

I turned back and got dressed as I followed my father into the pack infirmary.

"What the hell was she talking about?"

"I don't know, I mind linked Alpha Drake and his betas. They'll be here shortly. Amy! Here, she needs to be looked at, her wounds aren't healing properly."

"Who is she?" Amy asked, as she quickly guided us to an empty room to do her work.

"No idea, she was at the front gates. All she said was that they were coming and then passed out."

Alpha Drake, Viola, Max, and Derek all rushed in. "What's happened?" The alpha demanded.

"See for yourself." Jake moved out of the way and nodded to the girl.

They all looked at the girl in confusion. "I don't understand."

"She smells like them." Viola said. "She smells like the trail I followed last night."

My eyes widened in shock, I hadn't considered that she could be a threat, she's a teenager and clearly terrified. Well, passed out, but when we found her, terrified. I shook my head. "There's gotta be some kind of misunderstanding. She was alone when we found her. And terrified. She was running from someone."

Alpha Drake looked at me and furrowed his brows. "For now, she is unable to help or answer any questions. We will figure out what's going on when she wakes up. I want guards posted by her room twenty four seven." He looked at Max and Derek.

"Set up the patrols, two guards. You choose the shifts. I'm not letting this pack be blinded by the fact that she is a teenager, it doesn't mean there isn't a threat here. Amy we need to ensure that Cade has no reason to enter the infirmary. If he gets even a whiff of this there could be trouble, and if she is innocent, I won't let that be on my conscious."

Derek and Max nodded obediently and the followed the alpha, and my father, out of the infirmary to start setting shifts.

Viola wouldn't take her eyes off the girl.

"Viola." I touched her arm lightly and she dragged her eyes from the girl to look at me.

"I hope you know what you're doing Trenton." She spun on her heel and left with the others.
