Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

Derek's POV

I couldn't believe this scrawny teenage girl was this strong. It was clear that it was adrenaline, the kid was terrified. Waking up in strange place after goddess knows what she went through, with two men outside her door? I guess freaking out is inevitable.

She kicked James in the head immediately as he tried to reach her and knocked him out cold. When I tried to persuade her that she was not in danger she tried to kick me as well, but my hands were ready for that. I knocked her foot away from me and pinned her shoulders to the bed as she started screaming, again.

When Trenton pushed down her other side I focused my strength on holding her right side down. It sure took them long enough to get here! I thought to myself.

When she passed out again I breathed a sigh of relief and sat heavily in the chair behind me.

"James is fine, she kicked him in the face and he was knocked out cold." I sighed and looked to my alpha. "Alpha, this girl is unnaturally strong for a teenage werewolf. Honestly. And she is seriously freaking out, terrified of whoever or whatever, was after her. She just woke up, and we came in to see if she would talk to us, James got a bit close for comfort and she flipped."

Alpha Drake sighed. "I was hoping to have information from her by now. Take a break Derek, I'll send out a mind link to get Trevor and Austin down here early their shift." He waved me from the room and I walked out with Trenton behind me.

"So, you're getting your ass kicked by teenagers now?" He prodded, trying to piss me off I was sure. The guy sure made it hard to like him sometimes.

"Why did you bring her in here anyway? A complete stranger?" I asked ignoring his gibe.

"She was scared and seemed helpless. She passed out and we couldn't find out a damn thing. We needed to know what was going on."

"Well great job idiot, because now we still don't have information and we are utilizing guards to babysit instead of patrol the grounds to defend us."

I stopped walking and glared at Trenton. "The way I see it, you are just making more work for everyone."

Trenton's fist came flying at my face and he got my jaw. I smiled. "Really you shit-head?"

I punched him in the face, hard making his head fly back just a little. We both had our hands up, he got me in the abdomen and then my face as I flinched. Blood came spurting from my nose. I uppercut his chin making blood drip from his mouth.

He went for my side and as I dodged, I got his shoulder.

"Are you freaking kidding me?" Her voice hit me moments before her scent did and I dropped my hands and backed off from Trenton. "You guys are idiots. Both of you, you know that?"

Trenton shrugged. "Never claimed not to be, gorgeous."

I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at him while working my jaw.

"Sorry baby, things got kind of heated." I said nonchalantly.

Viola growled. "Don't you guys dare gorgeous, and baby me, ok? I don't want to see either of you at all until you can get yourselves together. I get it, you don't like each other. Well tough shit, cause I happen to love you both. But so help me, I will reject both of your sorry asses if you don't quit your nonsense. Got it?"

We both nodded. "Sorry, Viola. I mean it. I really am." I said humbly.

She smiled sarcastically. "Well I'm not the one y'all need to be sorry to, am I? After all, I didn't just get hit."

She stomped off leaving me and Trenton to stand there. Awkwardly.

"She said she loves us." Trenton mused as he watched her walk away.

"Yeah, yeah she did." I looked to watch her leave also. "She also said she would reject us for being sorry dumb-asses." I sighed and rubbed my neck.

He grunted. "I don't think she will."

"She typically keeps her word." I argued.

"Yeah, but I don't think we gotta worry about that. Not really."

"Best not to push it. I don't want to lose her." I answered honestly.

"Me either." Trenton said quietly. He looked at me. "Sorry. I just, I agree with you. I feel guilty about that warrior."

"James, his name is James bro."

He scoffed. "Whatever. I just didn't intend on any of this happening. She looked like she needed help, I helped. I'm not a complete monster." He shoved his hands in his pockets and kicked a rock. The snow was practically gone.

"I get it, I didn't mean to insinuate anything. Well, I did, but mostly just to piss you off." I admitted with a smirk. "I didn't think your intention was no good. Ok?"

He nodded. "I love her."

"Whoa dude, teenager, remember?" I joked knowing full well he wasn't talking about the girl in the infirmary.

He growled and looked ready to swing again.

I put my hands up mockingly. "Just joking guy, take it easy." I sighed. "I know you love her. So do I. It's how the bond works."

Trenton looked up to the sky. "I don't know how to do this."

I shrugged. "Me either, man. But clearly we need to do it differently because we are driving our woman insane."

He gave a small laugh. "Clearly. Isn't it supposed to be the woman that drives the men crazy?"

The tension seemed to evaporate then between us. It certainly wasn't gone, but neither of us were crazy about the situation.

"They do typically." Alpha Drake's voice sounded and we both looked at him. "Women, they definitely do drive you crazy. Dalia has been driving me nuts lately. But you guys haven't claimed Viola yet, so currently, you just drive her crazy."

The alpha walked away with a laugh.

"I'm taking a shower." I said and left Trenton to stand there.
