Viola's POV
Two weeks had gone by since the mystery girl showed up. She was still unconscious for the most part. She woke up terrified twice to say "they're coming" and that was that. There had been four more attacks since she arrived and three deaths. The first was someone who had worked at the library.
I remembered walking in on her, whoever had done it had already left with that same disgusting smell lingering in the air. Her throat had been ripped out. It was amazing that the second attack didn't end in a fatality. When I followed the scent once again it came to point where it was muddled with something else and then the smell disappeared.
The other two that had died were outside of the territory, warriors that were on patrol. Everyone was on edge, and poor Cade was in a bad way. Whiskey was always on his breath, he hardly ever dressed. I wasn't sure what would happen.
"Every time they attack inside the gates it's in a building by the pack gates." My father mused as we sat in his study with Max, Jake, and Trenton. Derek and a warrior named James were on shift at the infirmary currently.
"That makes sense though, they are the easiest points in, Alpha." Max said looking at a map of the grounds on my father's desk.
"How has Evie been doing on her boundary spell work?" He asked Max abruptly.
He smiled softly. "Very well actually, she has been doing a lot of practice."
My father nodded and put his hand under his chin. "Do you think she could put a boundary on one building? I don't want to overwhelm her, but if we can hit the buildings closest to our exits then we can allow more of our warriors to rest while we figure out how to approach this from the outside."
Max nodded slowly. "One building at a time should be doable. I'll talk to her this evening. Where would you want her to start?"
"The infirmary. That hasn't been hit yet, and it's close to our eastern gates. I would think it would be their next target."
Max widened his eyes as though he came up with something. "Alpha, look here." He pointed to the map. "There have been four inside attacks, here, here, here, and here." With each point of entry he used a thumbtack to pinpoint the locations. "It's straight across the border, they're being methodical."
My father smiled. "Which makes the infirmary next anyway. Go, talk to Evie, maybe we can beat them to it."
Max rushed out.
"Alpha Drake, there is something I need to tell you." Trenton spoke up after Max left. "Actually, that I need to show you."
My father looked at him as he pulled out a switchblade, he cut his palm and a silver liquid started coming out before the wound closed.
"When you were brought in your blood was red. Like it should be. What is this?" My father demanded.
"When my blood flows with permission it is silver. My mother was not only a hunter. She was part angel." Trenton looked at me. "Just like Avery."
When he said her name I saw my father visibly shake as he sat on his chair. "What are you saying to me? My wife was part angel? My daughter." He stopped and looked at me. He shook his head. "No, Viola has done blood drives, that means that she was giving her blood freely. It was always red."
"Before her wolf was present you mean?" Jake asked as he stepped behind Trenton. He looked at my father meaningfully and turned his head to me. "Angels, full angels, bleed silver. When that is mixed the blood is typically red, unless they are also a hunter. An alpha bloodline only."
My eyes widened in surprise. This was the answer I had been searching for wasn't it? I knew I was a hybrid, my father didn't know what I was, said it was too dangerous to look into, and yet here was my answer.
"Why haven't you said anything? And if you're a hunter, why can't you smell that nasty smell I keep tracking?" I demanded as I stood up.
"Hunter's are typically fueled and built to hunt certain things. Some hunt rogues, some hunt werewolves, some hunt vampires, some hunt witches, the list goes on and on. My instincts are to hunt witches. I can't smell it because whatever it is, isn't a witch." Trenton explained.
"But you have information, about my mother, you knew I was part angel and hid it?" I glowered.
"Please understand Viola, there is a lot to know but some of the information is still not completely clear, or ours to tell." Jake said walking towards me. "All in good time, please be patient with us."
I huffed and nodded. 'We need you guys to get to the infirmary, like now.' Derek mind linked everyone in the study and we went to the infirmary quickly.
When we got to the infirmary the doorway was lined with some silver and red material, when I reached to touch it though I felt nothing. "What is this?"
"It's magic. A boundary." Trenton spoke easily as he stepped through and we all followed.
"It worked!" Evie smiled at me, though she looked completely worn out.
"You were able to do the boundary?" I asked, though clearly she had.
"It covers the whole building?" my father asked.
She nodded. "Yes, alpha. The whole building. I'm a bit worn out. Nothing some chocolate and protein can't fix though."
Max looked at his daughter with pride and had a hand on her shoulder. It was such a wonder to me how Drew could be related to either of these two. They both had good hearts.
"Thank you, Evie, our pack is lucky to have you." My father smiled at her. "Is this why Derek had us get over here so quickly?" He looked around without seeing anyone else.
"I don't think so. She just finished, we hadn't told anyone." Max said concerned.
We went to the room the mystery girl had been in to find Derek pinning the girl to the bed while James lay unconscious on the floor. "A little help please!" He yelled. "She's freaking out!"
Trenton quickly got over to him and helped him hold her down as she was thrashing and screaming at them to let her go.
"What the hell?" Trenton said as she scratched his arm.
"Amy! Get her sedated or something." My father yelled while pushing her legs down.
"They're coming. They're gonna get me! Stop! Let me go. Let. Me. GO!!" She yelled.
Amy plunged a syringe into a tube that was connected her arm and the girl slowly stopped fighting.
"Coming, coming for me." She passed out again.
