"If I eat this… I'll really have the power to defeat Arlong?" Nami whispered, her voice a mixture of hope and deep-seated doubt. It wasn't that she distrusted Leo. She simply had no frame of reference for what a Devil Fruit could do. The idea that a single piece of fruit could grant such immense power was beyond her comprehension.
"Of course it's true," Leo stated, his voice leaving no room for argument. Even with minimal development, the power of the Weather-Weather Fruit would make crushing a thug like Arlong as simple as squashing an ant.
"Nami, eat it quickly. Don't let the Captain's kindness go to waste," Makino urged gently, resuming her role as the crew's big sister.
"Once you have this power, you'll be strong enough to protect everyone," she added, her words striking a chord deep within Nami.
"That's right, Nami," Kaya chimed in, offering her support. "I became so much stronger after eating the fruit Leo gave me."
"Protect everyone…?" The words echoed in Nami's mind, bringing with them a sharp memory of her adoptive mother, Bell-mère. Her gaze, once clouded with uncertainty, gradually hardened with resolve. "I'll eat it." She took the strangely patterned fruit from Leo's hand and, under the expectant eyes of her crewmates, took a large bite.
"So sweet~" she exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise. The bizarre-looking fruit was delicious. For a moment, it even lifted her heavy heart.
"Nami, the Captain is so good to you. You should be nicer to him," Makino said softly, gently stroking Nami's hair. "I've heard a single Devil Fruit can sell for a hundred million Berries on the open market."
"Mmmhmm… Wait, what?!" Nami, who had already eaten more than half the fruit, froze mid-chew. "A hundred million Berries?!" she gasped, her voice filled with utter disbelief. This fruit cost as much as her entire village?!
"That's just for an ordinary Devil Fruit," Leo explained with a light laugh. "This one's value far exceeds a billion."
A billion?! The fruit she was currently devouring was worth over a billion Berries?! Nami's expression went completely blank. In an instant, Leo saw her eyes well up again, threatening to overflow.
"You even stole ten million from me! I won't believe your lies!" Nami fought back the overwhelming wave of emotion, hastily wiping her tears and forcing a look of composure as she continued eating. "It has to be a trick. You're just saying that. You're always so smooth with your words."
But as she swallowed the last piece of fruit, she could no longer maintain the act.
Uncontrollable sobs wracked her body.
Ugh… Leo, you idiot… Why are you so good to me?!
In eight long years, no one had ever shown her such staggering kindness.
Leo's voice, light and gentle, reached her ears again. "Nami, it's just a Devil Fruit. In my eyes, you are priceless. You are worth it."
"Stop it, you bastard! Don't make me cry anymore!" Nami sobbed, her fists weakly pounding against his chest.
Kaya and Makino couldn't help but smile at the scene.
Leo caught her fists and pulled her into a close embrace, gently wiping the tears from her cheeks. "Alright, enough of that. Now, focus. Feel that new power inside you."
Nami nodded obediently, sniffling.
"Nami, the fruit you just ate is called the Weather-Weather Fruit. The concept of weather should be very familiar to you."
"There are too many meteorological elements. I suggest you focus on developing three to start with: wind, lightning, and cloud."
Wind and lightning for sheer offensive power. Cloud for defense. A balanced setup of two attacks and one defense.
His plan was clear: he intended to mold Nami into a combatant. Their future voyages would inevitably bring them into conflict with powerful enemies. They needed fighters. In his vision for a crew of powerful, beautiful women, Nami was a key piece.
"I'll listen to you," Nami agreed softly. The moment she had eaten the fruit, she had felt the surge of myriad powers within her. Wind, rain, thunder, lightning, cloud, snow, fog… She could feel the potential to command and transform into all of them.
"Nami, try the lightning ability."
"Watch me!" Nami's eyes sparkled with a new light, a confident smirk playing on her lips.
"Lightning Strike!"
With her light cry, dozens of meters ahead of the ship, silvery bolts of lightning abruptly crackled down from a clear sky, striking the sea's surface with explosive force, sending plumes of water erupting into the air.
"Wow! Nami, that's amazing!" Kaya clapped her hands in astonished delight.
"Gale Storm!" Without pausing, Nami flicked her wrist, sending a spinning vortex of wind skimming across the waves, whipping up swells several meters high.
"Cloud Barrier!"
"Heavy Snowfall!"
"Rain Darts!"
"...."
One after another, Nami demonstrated basic abilities tied to different weather elements. Of course, these were just the most fundamental applications, the kind any user could access immediately upon eating the fruit. The "Lightning Strike," for all its impressive name, was just a cluster of relatively small bolts with a limited area of effect. The same was true for the other displays. Their true, devastating potential would only be unlocked with dedicated training and deeper mastery.
After demonstrating all the elemental abilities she could initially grasp, Nami simply stood there, stunned.
She was lost in a daze.
In her mind, Arlong had always been the undisputed pinnacle of strength.
But that was only within the realm of living creatures.
As a genius navigator, Nami understood the terrifying, absolute power of natural disasters better than anyone. No living being could withstand that kind of fury. Not even Arlong.
And now… she held command over these very forces of nature.
All of it, given to her by Leo.
The "worthless golden beans," as she thought of her tears, fell once more.
"Ugh… Leo… you're too good to me," she cried, this time tears of pure joy streaming down her face as she threw her arms around him and held on tightly. She now absolutely believed this fruit was worth over a billion Berries.
"If you keep crying, you won't be pretty anymore," Leo teased gently, but he could clearly feel the subtle shift that had occurred in Nami's heart. A new confidence was taking root.
"You're just a bad guy. You made me cry so many times today," Nami sniffled, looking up at him with a mock-accusatory glare as she wiped her eyes.
"Nami," Leo began, a playful, knowing smile spreading across his face. "I gave you such an precious Devil Fruit. How do you plan to repay me?"
Nami understood his meaning immediately. A new, bold glint appeared in her eyes, replacing the last traces of sadness. "Alright then," she declared, opening her arms and closing her eyes with a dramatic sigh that was entirely feigned. "I'm all yours today. Do your worst!"
