"Get out here!" Leo's voice echoed across the scorched ruins.
There was still someone alive?! Nami, who had just begun to relax, instantly went on alert again. Crackling electricity surged around her body once more.
"Who's there?!" she demanded.
One second.
Two seconds.
...
No response.
A faint, cold smile touched Leo's lips. He casually flicked his wrist, and a bolt of lightning shot out, striking a specific pile of rubble to the east with explosive force.
"Don't, don't, don't! I'm coming out! I'm coming out right now!" a panicked, pleading voice yelped from within the debris.
A moment later, Nami watched as a disheveled and dust-covered Captain Nezumi scrambled out from a narrow gap in the wreckage, clutching a large chest tightly to his chest.
"It's you?!" Nami's face could have frozen hell over as she stared at the corrupt Marine captain. Arlong had been able to tyrannize Cocoyasi Village for so many years precisely because of this man's protection and cover-ups. In Nami's mind, Nezumi's evil was on par with, if not worse than, Arlong's. They all deserved to die.
"Don't kill me! I'm a Marine Captain! Please, I beg you, don't kill me!" Nezumi crawled on his hands and knees toward Nami, then prostrated himself before her without a shred of dignity. He had just watched this woman single-handedly wipe out the entire Arlong Pirates crew. How could he possibly oppose her? He'd thought his hiding spot was perfect, but he'd been found out anyway.
"You know you were wrong now?!" Leo's voice was dripping with contempt as he looked down at the groveling man. "What were you thinking when you acted as Arlong's shield?" He noted with disgust that even now, the man was clinging desperately to his chest of money.
Nezumi kowtowed repeatedly, his forehead thumping against the charred ground. "I was led astray! That bastard Arlong deceived me! That's why I did so many wrong things! If you let me go, I swear I'll turn over a new leaf!"
Heh.
He only thinks about changing when the blade is at his neck? What was he doing all this time? For scum like this, killing them was helping the people.
Leo watched the man (kowtowing like he was pounding garlic), sick of the sight. He saw no point in further words. A swift, precise motion later, it was over. Leo calmly picked up the heavy chest of Berries.
Leading the women, he walked out of the ruins of Arlong Park. A large crowd of villagers had gathered outside, their expressions still dazed, clearly trying to process the unbelievable scene they had just witnessed.
.....
Shortly after Leo and the others left, the villagers, their initial fear giving way to cautious courage, ventured into the smoldering remains of Arlong Park. Upon confirming that Arlong and every last one of his fish-men crew were truly, thoroughly dead, a wave of euphoria swept through them. They ran through the streets, spreading the incredible news to everyone they met.
Before long, the entire village of Cocoyasi was submerged in a sea of joyous celebration.
"Hahahaha! Arlong's been defeated! We're finally free!!"
"It's a miracle! We don't have to live under Arlong's thumb anymore!!"
"It was all Nami's doing! You should have seen her, she was like a warrior goddess..."
"The sky... it's finally clear again!"
"...."
The villagers cheered and laughed, immediately beginning preparations for a massive feast that very night. Cocoyasi Village was destined for a sleepless, jubilant celebration.
....
Meanwhile, Leo and the others followed Nami to her home.
The moment they stepped inside, Leo saw a young woman with short blue hair—Nojiko, Nami's sister. She had a handsome, spirited look about her.
"Nami?!" Nojiko's face lit up with surprised joy at the sight of her sister, and she rushed forward. It had been so long since she'd seen Nami, and she had been terribly worried.
"Sis!" Nami's voice choked with emotion as she threw her arms around Nojiko in a tight embrace.
"What happened? Is everything alright?" Nojiko asked, confused by the intensity and the presence of strangers.
"Let's go inside and talk," Nami said, pulling back but keeping hold of Nojiko's hand as she led her into the house. Kaya and Makino followed closely behind.
Under Nojiko's slightly bewildered gaze, Leo walked in with the easy familiarity of someone who owned the place.
Nojiko: Um... this is my house, right?
.....
"WHAT?! You killed Arlong?!" Nojiko stared at Nami, her expression a mix of disbelief and hope. It wasn't that she didn't trust her sister, but the news was simply too earth-shattering. Her understanding of Arlong's strength was the same as Nami's had been.
"It's true, sis! Not only did I kill Arlong, I destroyed Arlong Park, too," Nami declared, lifting her chin proudly. "The whole village must be talking about it by now."
"Of course," she added, her tone softening as she slipped her arm through Leo's, "it's all thanks to Leo. He gave me a Devil Fruit. That's where I got the power to defeat Arlong."
Nojiko blinked, her eyes flicking between the two, noting their obvious closeness. She'd sensed something was off the moment they walked in. Nami kept glancing at Leo every few sentences. And the other two girls, Kaya and Makino, their gazes never really left him. The tender, affectionate looks in their eyes were enough to melt any man's heart.
Ahem. Nojiko cleared her throat, deciding to test the waters. "Nami... what exactly is your relationship with Leo?"
Nami's face flushed a delicate pink. "He's my Captain... I'm the navigator of the Leo Pirates..." she mumbled quietly.
"Nami is my woman," Leo stated plainly, interrupting her before she could finish.
Nami's blush deepened. She was standing right in front of her sister, after all.
"We are too!" Kaya piped up playfully, raising her hand.
Under Nojiko's utterly astonished gaze, Makino also nodded with a gentle, confirming smile.
Well, damn.
Three women?!
And each one a stunning beauty.
This guy has some seriously good fortune.
She didn't know Kaya or Makino well, but if her sister so wholeheartedly accepted them—and him—then Leo's character must be beyond reproach.
"Thank you for taking care of Nami all this time," Nojiko said, offering a polite and sincere bow of gratitude to Leo. She knew her sister's temperament well.
"I told you," Leo replied with an easy smile. "She's my woman. Taking care of her is my responsibility."
Nojiko gave a slight, approving nod, then turned her attention back to Nami. "Nami... now that Arlong is gone... are you going to leave with Leo?"
Nami didn't hesitate for a second. "Yes, sis. I'm the navigator of his crew. He needs me."
Makino wasn't surprised. She could feel Nami's deep reliance on Leo. Only absolute trust in someone could inspire such unwavering certainty.
"Nami, you've grown up. You've found your place, and I'm happy for you," Nojiko said, her voice filled with a sisterly warmth and a touch of melancholy. "Don't worry about things here. I'll take good care of the house and the tangerine groves."
Nami squeezed her sister's hand and shook her head. "Sis, that's not the only reason I brought Leo here. I wanted to tell you about Arlong... and I also hope you'll join the Leo Pirates."
Nojiko: ??
Leo: ??
Leo looked at Nami, genuinely surprised. Recruiting Nojiko was indeed part of his long-term plan, but he hadn't expected Nami to bring it up herself. How thoughtful of her, he mused inwardly, a pleased smile touching his lips. She knows exactly what I like.
