Chapter 9 - Medication

Alfie's POV

"Alfie we need to head to the club" Jax mindlinked me.

I rolled my eyes. Kane and Knox always found themselves in trouble. And it was always in that place!

"Coming" I replied curtly.

"We need to teach those two a lesson" my wolf, Havoc drawled in my mind.

When we got to the club my wolf became restless, pacing in my mind. I looked to Jax he must've felt it too as he said " guard up, somethings wrong."

I nodded knowingly.

Goddess knows what Knox and Kane have got themselves into.

We walked into the club, as I moved past the bar where Levi stood, he nodded to me and continued working. What was going on, why was Levi behind the bar and not in his office?

As I stepped into the corridor behind the bar I caught a faint scent. Cherry. Vanilla.

It wasn't one I recognised but it made my breath catch in my throat.

Jax opened the door to the office smoothly, commanding with his alpha aura radiating.

What I saw my my knees weak.

"Mate!" Havoc jumped in my mind

Jaxs step faltered, I knew he'd had the same reaction from Reaper.

Then I saw her.

A red haired petite frame sitting in one of the chairs. Trembling, emerald eyes glistening with she'd tears.

I wanted to run to her and never let go but something in the atmosphere, Knox and Kanes demeanor and Jaz's expression. Things told me there was more to this then my brothers finding their mate.

"Jaz, can you please explain to my brothers what you've just told us" Knox said with tone I couldn't quite place. Anger. Disgust. Fear.

"Yes alpha" she bowed her head slightly and turned to us.

"Jaz you don't need to maintain formalities when it's just us" Jax said. He's always had a soft spot for Jaz, I think he secretly hoped she'd be his fated one. They had this unspoken bond, a connection that pulled him to protect her.

Jaz nodded and continued -" This is Callie, I met her today. She arrived after applying for the bar job online. Her scent, she's a wolf shifter but I can't … I can't sense her wolf." She paused briefly.

"Go on Jaz" I said trying to impatiently get to the bottom of this.

Callie remained still staring at us all wide eyed like we'd lost our minds. Scared. I wanted to go to her and sooth her, but something held me back.

Jaz continued-"at first I thought maybe she was lying about her age, but then Callie told me about being in collage and I saw her student ID in her bag when we were getting ready for work… she really is 18. Anyway I knew she had nowhere to go, orphaned and paying her own way through life so I invited her to stay with me."

"That doesn't explain why we can't sense her wolf" Jax thought out loud.

"I know, but I think it has something to do with her medication" Jaz continued.

Medication? Was our mate unwell, had her wolf been injured somehow?

Havoc was pacing in my mind making it hard for me to concentrate. I shoved him back so I could focus properly.

Jaz looked at Callie, her head was now hung low, playing with her fingers, clearly uncomfortable. "I think it's best if you tell them" Jaz spoke softly.

Callie looked up, between our faces. Goddess she was beautiful, my eyes held her gaze. That's when I saw a glimmer of gold flash across them.

"I..I am an orphan. Born with a heart murmur, my last foster family took me to the doctors, they prescribed medication. As I grew older I needed more medication to help with the symptoms… my last family couldn't afford the cost of the medications so once I turned 18 they kicked me out…. That's when I started collage. I just needed to work so I could save for a place to live once I graduate… I .. I don't want any trouble, I can leave.."

"NO!" Jax bellowed involuntarily, his wolf slipping out.

A growl escaped my throat, Havoc was going crazy in my mind "Mine!" He kept growling.

Callie looked horrified.
